Arma is the only game where I can get yelled out by a 14year old kid telling me to follow the chain of command while watching a car spaz out into the stratosphere all while I hearing another squad mate explain how to make napalm in a public server. 10/10, amazing community.
Thats my typical Squad experience lol. That and the one serious guy trying to tell everyone they need to all rush the same place hes fighting at in a very dramatic war movie tone.
Arma, despite being a niche milsim game, has always been a pretty important part of gaming since through Arma 2's DayZ we got quite a lot of survival games (Rust lists it as inspiration) and through DayZ Battle Royale it helped inspire a lot of games. Player Unknown of PUBG fame got his start making DayZ Battle Royale. It's all super dependent on finding servers making use of the creativity it allows. It honestly sounds like the server you guys joined was pretty good with god/"Zeus" (the Arma 3 term) making things on the fly and helping out. Don't forget your map though. It's quite easy to get lost in the beauty of reforger's maps, literally and metaphorically.
I like ARMA but mainly because I loved the drama they created in Operation Flashpoint (1) I don't think they've really recreated it since, but that's because they're a serious company with many national defence contracts so they can't pitch real countries against each other any more This is why Squad, Red River, and Ground Branch are my main games for now in the face of Reforger
The first game was Operation Flashpoint: Cold ar Crisis in 2001. Bohemia Interactive lost the rights to the name when they split with Codemasters and thus the next release was Arma.
@@glennpeterson1357 I only got into it a few weeks ago. Kept running into situations where I was invincible or the person I was shooting was. Not to mention the supply system being bugged every time I used it.
@@whatisthis839 definitely still bugs, but you should’ve seen it a year ago! 😂…I think hit reg is a bit of a problem from time to time depending on ping, etc
best way to experience arma reforger is just to be an idiot if you want actions try out the vietnam server or insurgency servers most the maps are smaller for insurgency so it leads to more combat
fuck those milsim nerds. peak arma is hosting your own modded private server with friends and playing the more sandbox orientated scenarios, ignoring of course the server setup/what mods to even choose from/which scenarios to pick but once its done, its done. when people mention arma, others will scoff it as that tryhard milsim clan game but its a just shitty stigma, covering its real potential as an FPS Garry's Mod
Honestly you could've had this experience on an ArmA 3 server any time in the last ~10 years. I was waiting or the "Reforger" specific part to sit and it just... never did? lmao
honestly the way the Zeus was watching yall the entire time and guiding you along the way is so sweet but fucking hilarious lmaoo. Bros gotta be sitting there like "holy shit these guys have NO idea what they're doing but by god theyre doing it!"
Had an ARMA experience where some 10 year old kid was having fun blathering out orders to the whole squad for like 40 minutes, his older brother came back laughing how cooperative the team was.
I have, as of writing this, 3,835 hours between Arma 3 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead (only accounting for 191 hours), and I'd wager that as far as Arma games go, Reforger is THE best place to start in the entire series. Reforger is much less convoluted in terms of controls and scope, while also looking better and having better QoL features than the previous games. The only thing Reforger is missing for me personally is something like the 3den editor. But, as it stands right now, Reforger is just a test bed for the next game and not a full game in the Arma franchise. I do hope the ease of use that Reforger has makes its return in the next game, because as popular as Arma 3 was and still is, the next game, hopefully, has the potential to be the best game in the entire franchise.
It's naive to think that people new to ArmA series will be interested in other ArmA games afer trying reforger, especially when it comes to multiplayer. Sub-20FPS is just not playable experience. It's no longer an animated "movie" but a series of static pictures displayed in a rapid succession. Only people willing to put up with something this unacceptable are people like us who grew up with OFP and ArmA series, so they can ignore it through strongly rose tinted glasses. But nearly anyone who never played ArmA game before will not be able to put up which such terrible performance (regardless of hardware) and such extreme degree of jank.
@@LudvikKoutnyArt while yes, the game has the WORST connection issues of a game I played ever, the experience it provided is definitely unique. Sure, I love 3's futuristic/modern setting, but it's very old. We're talking more than 10 years. The community it boasted back then is not the same now. Reforger is at a place where most noobs can get the basic idea of what goes on in an ArmA server.
I have massive problems with FOV. I simply can't set it to feel right. Second issue is that for some reason I can't see well in Reforger. I don't know why. The game looks great but my eyes don't like it.
One should hope so, the devs are after all literally called "Bohemia Interactive". If they couldn't provide an interactive Bohemia, then what would be the point? lol.
@@keenmate9719 They could have, and they might still with Arma 4. Arma Reforger's default map is a remake of the one from one of Bohemia Interactive's earliest games (I think from either Operation: Flashpoint or the first Arma), and it's reasonable for the devs to have gone with a familiar setting for their earliest games.
its a map based on a real life island in croatia, krk and our streets look very similar in the inner country although near the seaside and on that island there would be a lot more white stone buildings
6k hrs in A3 and 2k in Reforger here - imo the biggest problem with these games are the server owners and the way they have an inherent need to absolutely flood their servers with inane BS that you'd likely never use, in the way of mods. When you find a server or group that DOESN'T do that, the quality of experience skyrockets, but they're very few and far between because the game already requires so many mods just to be good. Fantastic video showing that the game can be fun, but it's not (and never will be) great. And I love it :)
@@glennpeterson1357 Well of course, idk why you'd even need to point that out tbh. I'm just stating what a lot of people see as a major problem, which is an oversaturation of mods for nearly every community server. But also, I said "When you find a server or group that DOESN'T do that, the quality of experience skyrockets" So there's that.
@@glennpeterson1357 I see, my bad. That part was mainly directed towards A3, since the vanilla setting is so boring and honestly quite ugly to play. The vanilla Reforger experience has come a long way, it used to be very boring and lackluster.

Man wth Arma 3 is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I just don't think people understand WHY. You basically have INFINITE possibilities due to their absolutely HUGE amount of different functions available meaning you can script pretty much anything. I understand your gripes with mods but it is because arma is so configurable and open to everyone that mods are easy (relatively) to make and the reason their is SO MANY of them. No it isnt a game with a set gamemode and what not but that isnt what its designed for. Arma is more of a sandbox where people can utilise the tools provided to them such as 3den editor or Zeus to create hundreds of thousands of unique scenarios and experiences. That is the reason I love arma though for people who are used to stuff like squad with its standardised gamemodes I get why they may struggle to understand it.
I agree with what you said but ARMA has a high sealing of entry compared to games like Squad. Most people don't have time to explore the infinite possibilities when learning the game enough to just start playing takes long hours. Compared to that you can just download Squad and pop into a game.
Yeah, for Arma you kinda need to check stuff out first, learn some basics (because Reforger doesnt have a tutorial really) and then check out what you actually want to play. Of course the Server Browser shows you all. After you know what you want (and what its called), you can choose your favourite server again and play.. jumping blindly into Arma.. not that useful. Its a sandbox and you just wont know whats in it and how much sand you are getting in your shoes.
this started of painful to watch, but you made your own story arc of silly antics and this was worth the watch. Great job at keeping it funky and fresh dad.
Well you’re in luck slorg. Arma has decided to not be hardcore anymore and has now instead decided to be as casual as possible. This should prove to no longer be and issue anymore
@@rickfastly2671 it’s not just the charm it’s literally the identity of the game. To have arma be casual by any means is to basically say it’s not arma anymore
@LakevusParadice i’d say the game went casual at Arma 3, mods are what grounded it in reality and realism. The community sculpted the game into the milsim they wanted, or anything they wanted really. Arma to me is a platform, where you build it into what you wish, much like what the community had done so many times before.
@@glennpeterson1357 to say arma is anywhere by default meant to be softcore means you know nothing about this game and what it’s meant to be. Arma has always built its identity around being HARDCORE military. And to casualize it and make it arcade is fundamentally against that
Sorry, i know that you probably know this, but i have to say it: the first Arma game is "Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis", later renamed "Arma: Cold War Assault" (even if it had a different name, due to legal reasons, it's exactly the same, apart from graphics). It was a completely innovative/visionary/ambitious game for its time. And even with all its flaws and the hard access to its gameplay, i just can't avoid the unique feel this franchise still has, different from other milsims (that i also play). For the full multiplayer experience, i recommend joining a community/unit (it also depends on which type of teamwork you look for). They will help you to make the game more accessible. And a very unpopular oppinion, that not many people will agree with, but: i love the official story campaigns and the Armaverse lore. They are hard and glitched, but they're an emotional experience that Call of Duty will never give you; even with moments of similarities (ex: stealth; secret conspiracies). You get to do missions of regular infantry; special forces; armoured vehicles; helicopters and jets; doing sabotage; sniping; being captured and escaping; surviving alone in enemy territory; directing airstrikes; using drones; commanding troops or vehicles; doing recon; patrolling; fighting with nightvision; guerrilla warfare and gathering supplies; retreating; watching the map change through the campaign development; constantly making choices that affect the future missions and the ending... Even hunting mines and reconstructing history ("Remnants of War" DLC) or making contact with aliens ("Contact" DLC). Or sometimes living as a civilian (different moments from different campaigns).
@@oort84 Yeah, i think that whoever writes the campaigns is such a master! And i couldn't find anything THAT specific, but clues about the main screenwriter/storywriter of the main campaigns being the CEO of Bohemia.
My man if you want to find enemies and do some shooting you should try the conflict game mode in reforger. As for the time spent in-menu and waiting to join server: all I can say is that the total time spent in reforger waiting to join server and setting up kit is comparable and quite often significantly shorter than the wait to join a good squad server especially since you only have to create a kit once per server.
Man I just stumbled onto your channel and I gotta say, I don't think I've laughed this much at a video in a long time. Made my night. The self-deprecation is so thick and appreciated 😆Subbed.
Forgive me, but as a fan of the franchise for more than 2 decades now, I'll come in with some clarification. "I was there, Gandalf..." The story actually starts with the original title from Bohemia Interactive, called back then "Operation Flashpoint", released in 2001, which is now available on Steam as "Arma: Cold War Assault". We played that in college a lot. The tagline for that title was "If you see the flash, it's already too late", highlighting the high level of realism and how you could get killed with a single bullet. It was probably the first full Battlefield Simulator on this planet, where you could drive every vehicle, equip dozens of weapons and tools, order every AI soldier in your squad, could use a map and a compass to navigate, and it also had accurate night sky, so during night missions you could navigate by the stars. It also had an amazing soundtrack. That same engine was also used for the Virtual Battle Space military simulator, which was used by armies around the world for training purposes, and was not sold to general public. The rights to the original "Operation Flashpoint" title were being held by the publisher - Codemasters, with whom Bohemia Interactive parted ways due to some disagreements around the sequel. Basically Codemasters didn't like the fact that BI had been spending time scanning real-life weapons and modelling the character's eyeballs, while pushing the deadline further and further. So they stopped cooperating. In 2006, when Bohemia Interactive's was releasing a sequel, it was named "Arma: Armed Assault". Much later, the original first game was re-named to "Arma: Cold War Assault", to get it in line with the later titles. In 2009, Codemasters made a very bad attempt at their sequel named "Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising", trying to capitalize on their rights to the name, but that game was all hype and no bang, and for many it was the grand-proof to never again pay for a preorder of an overhyped game. It is a popular misconception that ARMA is an acronym of "Armed Assault" but it's actually from latin, where "arma" stands for "war", "weapons", "soldiers". Therefore, it's not an "Armed Assault" series of games, it's "Arma" series of games, where only one title was named "Armed Assault". Hope that helps :)
It actually started with Operation Flashpoint. I bought ARMA3, because I thought they had gotten rid of all the jank. I was wrong. Maybe Reforger is gonna be the miracle everyone has been waiting for. If it is, I'll give BI my money.
"Serious" is quality, people today just play trash and repeat to themselves "I am playing a videogame in front of a screen" instead to understand that quality is fun, it is the best thing, it is the only way to play well games, casual or not call it as u want you need to be knowledgable of what you are doing what you are playing ,the context and so on (with any game... The problem is that people do not understand how important is having unique gameplay sessions WITH SOULD MATES LIKE MINDED PEOPLE. I created my small crew project and I am all about this since years. No HUD Team is the way. Arma 3 anyway for the win.
17:04 It's literally right next to the compass. Like...HOW did you miss it? The white and blue paper thingy on the immediate left. Kinda looks like a folded map? that one.
Your notions of arma have been wrong this whole time though. I started with arma 2 and played MP and it was very similar to squad if habs didnt exist (take a vic to the AO and sweep it out) In arma 3 I got into making my own scenarios for me and friends and play nearly 1000 hours of single player, and occasional multiplayer. Never had to "wait weeks for an event" Only reason I didnt do MP was because of fps limits due to CPU bottleneck on that engine.
My guy, Iv been on Reforger since Launch. I have tens of thousands of hours in Arma and OFP. Reforger is the Way and I am glad its finally getting traction. I uninstalled ARMA3
This was genuinely hilarious to watch and editing was fire! Captures the best bits of gaming with mates. Hop on WCS servers some time and people will help you with getting the basics down. I think most people find one or two servers and then regularly play on there, where you’ll then encounter the same players and hook up with people
Arma 3 DLC Sog Prairie Fire plus Mike Force is the best of ARMA by a long shot !! Almost a completely new game. Give it a go. Reforger is absolute bollocks by comparison.
Ay you finally played it. Good luck trying to go back to Squad lol. It just feels so clunky, dated, and above all repetitively meta focused after playing this.
Barracks simulator as well. You either drive or stare at your inventory in your reforger 🤣 but those rare moments that you prepare for, are usually very worth it (unless you ride over a mine after 20 minutes of navigating around)
You even scrolled over the map lol. It's a good game it just need some more work. Like with any game that has community servers, some are better than others. I do hope you play more of it 🤙
seriously considering reforger consider how absolutely terrible squad has become, just a horrifically bad player base to what it used to be, no tactics used, no one tries to get revived, theres rarely a commander and just generally completely degraded gameplay
@@humperdinckoglethorpe4180the man is right for the most part. 90% of the matches go like that in most North American servers. However, reforger just seems like another messy game with no teamwork except for in a small unit of 3-4 dudes.
Ive only ever played Arma, Arma2 and Arma3 without mods. Steam says Ive got around 8,000 hours in vanilla Arma3. My PC will remain mod free. I dont need the hassle that mods bring.
💯 I have 3k+ hours on A3, mainly vanilla and DLC/CDLC…but I’ve never been back since Reforger came out, now I have 1k hours on Reforger, and none of that using mods
Arma is now way less milsimmy because it’s crossplay as of reforger. You could do an insane sociological study with the demographics and economics of the console players (Appalachian people with substance problems and 12 year olds) but yeah they help dilute the milsim larpers so I’m not complaining
