Today we're remembering a megastar from the realm of golf who had all the potential in the world. People predicted that she'll be a game changer for women's golf. A prodigy to be remembered for years to come.
We're talking about none other than Michelle Wie. A young athlete who succumbed under pressure and never reached the heights of success she was supposed to reach.
But here comes the twist. You threw her at the wolves and she came back leading the pack. She did something which surprised everyone around her.

My son was a golf prodigy also. At TPI they graph golf maturity versus emotional maturity. The parent must assess the emotional maturity before any association with money or professionalism. Michelle just needs to be a young girl, and meet others like her. Until she develops emotional maturity she needed to stay away from competing with older professionals. Her parents screwed up big time. They needed to protect her. The movie about Serena Williams illustrates a Dad who knew that his first job was to protect his daughter until she was mature enough to handle the pressures of professional competition.

I learned from my years of experience that golf is about being head strong. Long drive is only an advantage. Too many Asian golfers from that era thought good swing is what it all counts. Wie being one of them.

I saw Wei several times in person, she was a snob, arrogant. I believe she failed because she has undiagnosed OCD or Obsessive compulsive personality. Her obsession with perfection got in her way and the ways she contorted her body to attain perfection killed her career. It runs in families as it runs in mine. It can hide till a person is in their teens or early 20's, so she had early success before the genetics took ahold. She is not the only player with this, Lexi does and it killed her career as well. I watched her throw whole tournaments away from hitting off her right foot, and no one brought it up, when they did she refused to change it. One of the symptoms is refusal to change, rejection of being wrong about anything.

The heights a pro sportsman go, is not just the game. It is sustaining the failures and nurturing the wounds, while getting ready for next. Each event brings a change. It should be used to move up. What happened to Tiger. Who knows. He fell hard. Still recovering. Wie has a lesson here. Make all weaknesses irrelevant. She may still do it. Promising years ahead. For her.

Tiger parenting would take a toll on a person's mental health. Her fault or no be that as it may. Exposure to media at such a young age is no good. Another example in other sports, Freddi Adu in US soccer. This guy was said to be the next Pele but he ended up being a journeyman in professional sport almost playing for different team every season and he won no trophy unlike Wie.

Each player has different body built and swing pattern! Having somebody else telling you what to do in swing is the WORST thing that can happen to a golf professional, even the BEST Tiger Woods! That’s why Tiger has some many surgeries on his body. Nobody can decide how a player should swing in golf! That should be illegal, in professional golf! If he/ she could not swing well, he/she could not be a professional golfer, period! What needs to be done is only STRENGTH training and putting skill. Look at so many top notch pro golfers become just a golfer because someone else told them to change the golf SWING. Just simply STUPID to do that!
