I just love how you're showing different cockpits in every shot. At 2:08, you show a B52 cockpit At 2:32, you show an A330 cockpit At 5:52, you show a B1 cockpit At 5:58, you show a 747-100 cockpit At 6:29, you show a KC-135 cockpit You literally haven't showed a B2 cockpit in a video about the B2, and instead decided to display five completely unrelated cockpits. Edit: To all of you saying it's really hard to find photos of the cockpit, just search it up. There are loads of them. Even if he couldn't use them because of copyright, he could've at least said that they weren't from the B2 to prevent people from being misled.
@@weasle2904 Was waiting for somebody to say this. 😑🙄I do know that. If They picked up every bird and small object they couldn't operate. If they didn't filter things out stealth wouldn't work.
So you're telling me that the clickbait picture of a ton of bombs laid out in front of the B-2 Bomber is the exact same amount that can fit in the bomber at any given time? wow!!! how technology has come so far, and how gravity just doesn't exist when it comes to videos.
That $737 million cost includes all of the development cost plus build costs divided by the number of aircraft (21). The actual "flyaway" cost was more like $250 million. The cost to build each additional aircraft. If they had built the planned 132 instead of just 21, the total cost including development of each would have been just $327 million. I actually worked on the the B-2 program and a part I designed is on each one.

Holy F*cking Chr*st & Wow! How many lives could this extinguish on a good mission or run... I mean being very efficient in killing its subjects? Just think of how many funerals that could result - kind of exciting, isn't it? But we would say a prayer for them and then it would be OK then, right?
I remember the first time I saw one in person when I was put in charge to guard one when it came to Fort Campbell KY to avoid the area where it was from a hurricane. It was by far, one of the most amazing things I ever saw.
funny thing is they just pulled some old nazi blueprints and made a modernized version of their stealth bomber. Its pretty much just a bigger Horten Ho IX. Goes to show how ahead of their time nazi tech was.
@@Jebu911 wow, cool fact tbh, and yeah I’m also obsessed with all those old Nazi engineering designs. They may have been bat shit crazy, but they had some insanely talented engineers. If I remember correctly the only reasons the U.S. made it to the moon was by granting immunity to some Nazi war criminals in return for their service on the Apollo rocket
"All 21 examples are still in operation." Incorrect. In February of 2008 the B-2 _Spirit of Kansas_ crashed shortly after takeoff and was a total loss.
@Sir Scofferoff Well, they crashed on an airfield, well in sight of the tower, so I doubt they had any time to visit a stripclub before rescue got there
On 23 February 2008, Spirit of Kansas, a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber of the United States Air Force, crashed on the runway moments after takeoff from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. The aircraft was destroyed, both crew members successfully ejected & the accident marked the first operational loss of a B2 bomber, and as of 2023 it remains the only. With an estimated loss of 1.4 billion USD, so there is only 20 in existence still.
I live an hour east from Whiteman AFB where all of the B2's are stationed. I was in boy scouts and one of the scout leaders used to be stationed there and we got to take a field trip to the base. Seeing this thing up close is something I'll never forget. Last year I saw one flying over Columbia, MO and you couldn't hear it until it was directly overhead and if you weren't looking up you would've never thought the sound was a plane.
I was driving west on I70 towards Kansas City very early one morning, with almost no other traffic, during the Kosovo war. Two B2s flying very low on either side of the highway came from behind (didn't notice/hear them coming) and blew by me, heading back to Whiteman I assume. Was a very surreal moment, especially considering they were likely returning from dropping bombs overseas. They were running bombing raids to Kosovo straight out of Whiteman at the time.
I live in KC but I go down to Springfield for college throughout the year and I see SO many bets flying around on my way there and back. I have never seen a B2, but I see loads of A-10’s and F16’s
My dad was stationed there and I lived there and attended Whitemans AFB Elementary School. I remember one time in class where we briefly discussed this one kids dad was on TV at the Chiefs game yelling at the crew for being late for the flyover lol
I've seen one of these on a low fly-by at an airshow. Even knowing that is was coming, it's still the most terrifying thing ever when you see it in person.
I live near an airbase in Australia, and on an approach path. Earlier this evening, one came over my house at about 300ft, while I was on the driveway. "Terrifying" isn't the word !!! Legs were wanting RUN, but I made myself stand still and watch it. OMG.🤪
@@JAMDJAMD nah, the reason they made B-21 is to lower the price it take. B-2 is too expensive, so they develop B-21 not only to update the bomber, but also to decrease the price
I remember seeing one of these flying overhead when I was a little boy 13 years ago and thought it was the coolest airplane I’d ever seen and wanted to know more about it. When I seen a article about it years ago I knew that was exactly what I’d seen and remembered seeing it instantly
I hope you got closer to your dream. As an Army officer I saw the B2 in person for my first time yesterday. I immediately felt humbled, but also proud of our nation all at once. It's an aircraft and weapon like no other.
Back in the mid 90's my sister and I were passing through Co. Springs with her driving. I was looking out the window and saw what looked like a kite but it was so high up. Kept watching it for several minutes until we passed right beneath it and I realized what it was. I said "holy sh*t Steph, that's a stealth bomber!" I think I said a few more bad words as it was really cool to see and as we watched it glide around the mountain on the east side of I25 we also saw 2 F16's flying not far behind it. Over 25 years ago and still remember the excitement.
"Radar absorbent materials .... help reduce its infrared signature by absorbing many of the radar beams" Severe lack of understanding physics detected.
@@cristianjoita4138 No, it absorbs the radiation, so it does not get reflected, as the basic principle of operation of radar is receiving reflected electromagnetic radiation.
@@juanbrizzi7400 I think what is meant that it has a radar signature that is equivalent to the reflection of a smooth flat square metal plate of that surface area. They don't mean the actual physical surface.
Watched one of these fly at an airshow -- it was silent as it passed over I mean, the sound of its engines lagged more than the other aircraft so you could see it pass by but wouldn't hear it until it was already passed.
Let's be realistic...This aircraft is not silent and can be heard relatively close, very clearly like other jet aircraft. It isn't a roaring fighter jet by any means but it is still deafening up close. The purpose is stealth. Not stealth at 2,000 ft. for an airshow. Radar stealth / infra-red stealth at operational altitude. You'd be dead before it's sound was perceivable; meaning you wouldn't see it coming or going. Much less hear it.
I was at one of my sisters softball games as a child and I remember playing at the playground around dusk while she played and I looked up and saw one fly over and I swear it was a UFO and ran and told my mom lol
Use to work at Northrop Grumman..the hangers is what I worked on..the jet took a picture of my uncle taking a picture of it..shut his phone OFF and sent the jetpic to the site contact over safety..that's when I knew this things are feared on purpose.
1:04 - *radar* absorbant materials help reduce its *infrared* signature by absorbing radar beams - no, they don't. Radars use microwaves, and microwaves have nothing to do with infrared light whatsoever. 2:16 - a GPS antenna would make it more susceptible to being picked up by enemies - no, it would not. A GPS antenna works just like a radio: it only receives data from the satellites and does not send anything back. There is no way an enemy could detect that. UPD: someone in the comments pointed out, that GPS receiving antennas can actually make an aircraft more visible in the microwave spectrum, so the 2nd point is in fact correct!
1. "Microwaves have nothing to do with infrared light". Incorrect. Microwaves and Infrared light are the same thing. They're both forms of electromagnetic radiation. They're just different wavelengths. Both of which CAN be picked up by different instruments. 2. The antenna is not an issue in the sense of signals but in the sense that it would affect the radar cross section. There are specifically designed antennas for this purpose called "low observable antennas". You can look this up.
@@vladvladislav4335 I'd have to agree with Doctor here, both microwaves and infrared are just different wavelengths of radiation. In the end, they are electromagnetic waves which can be picked up by different radars. Most standard radars use microwaves, but other radars like IRST detect infrared signatures. Heres an analysis on RAM that also uses the term "electromagnetic waves" instead of differentiating between the waves as like Doctor said, different instruments pick up different waves. Hell, if they put some sort of nuclear engine in planes, they could use a radar to detect gamma rays.
@@prone1548 IR light has orders of magnitude shorter wavelengths, and these frequencies have completely different properties and need completely different equipment to receive/radiate. So no, IR light has nothing to do with RADARs. You can however use the same math and calculation logic used in RADAR systems, but employ IR lasers instead of microwave antennas. It's called LiDAR then. And there is a reason why it has a different name
@Mister Big Despite your ignorant and naive comment, the B-2 is a nuclear stealth bomber and it's primarily role is penetrating the most dense air defences to deliver nuclear strikes .. It wasn't built to be a treatment for viral diseases
I had the awesome experience of going to the air force base they keep all the b2 bombers at in Missouri and we got to go into the plane and talk to a veteran who flew it and did bombing runs! So cool
The B-52 Stratofortress shouldn't be ignored either since we still have around 80 in active duty, and prepared for action, while being constantly upgraded, and retrofitted with current tech, and additional capabilities.
interesting enough, my uncle flew one of these over the rose bowl. He is retired from the Air Force now, but it was awesome seeing a family member achieve that feat.

The Flying Wing!!! This aircraft is by far one of the coolest things I've ever seen. When I have seen them flying over my home here in SouthEast New Mexico, just the speed they have is amazing. You see them right above you, but it's silent. After it's past you that's when that enormous rumble comes and you really recognize it's power
It’s more of a screech than a rumble. But my god are they something to see. I remember when I was a kid (used to live 15 minutes from a NASCAR track), 3 went flying over the house at a relatively low altitude. I remember the shadows they cast, and the dead silence, then the screech. I’ll never forget that.
I went to the Whiteman air show and while the A10 pilots were largely...kids...the B2 pilots were mid to late career guys who had clearly been around. The rarer and more advanced, the more experienced the pilot. I've seen as many as 5 in the air at the same time here in MO...
I'd love to see an updated version designed and flying. A lot of the materials used were cutting-edge back them but incredibly expensive (Titanium in particular) so I'd be curious to see what they might replace it with.

Just to give an idea of how much firepower the B-2 has...in World War 2, the B-17 Flying Fortress had a payload of 2,200kg, or 4,400 pounds. The B-2 has a payload of over 40,000 pounds, almost 10x that of the B-17. Of course that was then and this is now, but still...incredibly destructive power. What a monster

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but infrared and radar wavelengths are completely different. Infrared does not use "radar" to return a thermal signature. Nor does Radar use infrared for vice versa. A plane's thermal footprint can be reduced by the materials mentioned and the radar cross section might also be reduced in tandem, but the correlation is not causation. The materials reducing the thermal return might also just happen to have a lower radar cross section.

There is an interesting historical fact. The original Northrup YB-49 Flying Wing was very difficult to see on the radar of that time. So the flying wing shape plays a big role in the airplane being stealthy. Here is an interesting thought. If the technology needed for stable flying of a Flying Wing Airplane had existed in the 1940s and the YB-49 had not been cancelled and ordered destroyed the United States could have had an early Stealth Bomber in 1950. It is too bad that the ideas of Jack Northrup were too far ahead of their time.
