Do you guys use an iPad at all? I do still have my 2018 model but I gravitate towards my MacBook, almost every single time. Let me know! If you do use an iPad alongside the Apple Pencil, do give Paperlike a try - paperlike.com/zoneoftech_PL21. It's my favourite for taking notes. Completely changes the experience!

I have a 2018 too. INTERESTINGLY I have found myself re-discovering my IPAD as I am using the new Apple reminders and the new Apple notes apps. I already love my iPad for video consumption. But since I just bought a soft pillow iPad tablet holder, I am now manually entering using Dictation on the new new notes and new reminders apps while it sits on my lap. While I always loved my 2018 for consumption and now I am using it for productivity too. I think the iPad is one of the best inventions of Apple ever. :-)💪. The only thing they need to do is make the battery last longer and Ill buy them forever 😊

Good question, if I had to choose between an iPad and a Macbook (without worrying about price), I would probably take the iPad. However, this choice is entirely based on the fact that it wouldn't be my work station/primary device. For a secondary device, something light and casual like the iPad is perfect for me.

The last iPad I bought was the 2018 Pro. I stopped using it about 2 years ago so I eventually gave it to my wife. Currently I don’t use an iPad at all. I have my iPhone 14 Pro Max and MacBook. That covers all my needs. If Apple did make an iPad that ran MacOS I would probably replace my MacBook with an IPad. But I’ll be very surprised if that ever happens.

As an illustrator, the I-Pad has become an indispensable part of workflow. Just wish it would give us more power. The ultimate would be a desktop Mac with I-pad touch screen functionality - you could tilt the screen and use it as a giant desktop drawing space. This would be so nice + would also probably put Wacom out of business.

The mini has a definitive place. The portability is far superior for travel - business or otherwise. For stills and video creators, having a full pwered transfer and edit device that fits in our equipment bag is essential. It also is a great entry way into the Apple ecosphere for those that want to retain non-Apple smartphones and laptops.

My mini 6 has the perfect form factor for me…I use it as my main desk computer, with my dji and custom built drones, on the go computing, CAD, and data management for said drones. @HowiMetKyle
@HowiMetKyle Год назад
@@pubplays368 Poor eyesight is an issue, but from what I've read the larger issue is not whether the screens we use are portable or not. It seems that as humanity has transitioned from overwhelmingly spending our time outdoors farming/fishing and gathering supplies and moved to an indoor lifestyle that has collectively made our focal muscles weaken because we aren't activating them as much to shift focus between objects nearby and objects far away. This is the case even with books/newspapers, or simply just spending more time inside.

If the OLED screen can't go pass 400 nits that's a huge problem. I agree too many iPad lineup. I totally support the larger 14" & 16" screen upgrade. Only if the customers notice the difference between the Mac book and Ipad spec then they'll choose the cheapest one (price is a factor vs benefits). A wireless power bank together with a wireless phone is a perfect match made for each other (it eliminate inconvenient cable management while traveling).

But if they have the pencil on the side, it’s either gonna block the speakers or the charging port. It would be nice if they at least put another camera on the opposite side so that if you have it in landscape, it will unlock with Face ID but I guess that might be too expensive or something because whenever I have it in landscape, it never reads my face unless I move my face to the left. OK maybe if it’s like in a perfect position but sometimes you’re a little bit off to the side and you can’t open it and that’s kind of frustrating and a lot of times I’ll just put in my code instead of moving my face over.

I just finished grad school using an iPad Pro 4th generation with a Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil as a laptop set up. However, in the end, I did need to buy a MacBook because the iPad was not compatible with certain exams I had to take in class. However if it weren’t for that I would have been fine with that set up. However, now that I am done and have a MacBook, the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard set up was not convenient anymore so I just traded in my ipad pro magic keyboard setup for an ipad air 5th generation. This allows for more portability and still let me use my apple pencil.

While the iPad is certainly a versatile device with the ability to do about 80 to 90% of what anybody needs, someone who produces video for living, day in and day out, would best be served by a Mac. It’s like automobile drivers complaining about motorcycles. Just as with iPads and Macs, there are motorcycles that cost as much and more than automobiles, and obviously, those motorcycles are not targeted at minivan owners.

A variety of solutions: * Dual-Boot * Tablet mode + Desktop mode (see Android tablets which already do this except desktop would be MacOS lite). This option could be dynamic while running the OS so more practical than dual-boot * VM option: M1/M2 plus enough RAM could run a lite-MacOS. This is probably the solution they will use. There's even a WIn11 "mini or core" that runs on 2GB ;-) Btw the MacOS currently does support touch and the UI is larger to do this more easily if you see it in use on shared screens.

I absolutely love my M1 iPad Pro, but that is mainly because I use Apple Pencil alot, and do a lot of sketching/notes taking/markup comments at work. Only problem is, app development is seriously lacking. Despite having a sound/powerful hardware, there's almost nothing heavy to utilise from there. So I actually think having M2 there is totally a waste, unless they do something about the app.

Because I'm using the iPad without a keyboard, a MacBook is not really an alternative. I use my iPad for surfing, reading, gaming, movies, painting.. and yes, I'm waiting for the "pro" Apps from Blackmagic or hopefully FCP for iPadOS. I use my iPad in situation where a MacBook is not really suitable for me. I just bought the 2022 iPad Pro 12.9 to replace my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9. And I think the bigger upgrade for the iPad Pro comes with the M3.

It would be nice to see macOS on the iPad M series. Think the Microsoft Surface Book. The keyboard of a mac can have all the IO ports and an extra battery. When the iPad is undocked from the keyboard it works as an ipad. When docked to the keyboard it boots into full MacOS. 2nd option is a refresh IpadOS software for the 12.9" ipad . There is soo much wasted space on the home screen between apps. The UI needs an overhall.

actually I am struggling about which pad to get ? The price of the pro feels to high for 'just' a tablet. I have a Mac that i do dedicated work on, but i want something more portable for video-editing but also for drawing. The Air is pretty much like the '11' pro but with less cams and the M1 instead of the M2 and no 120hz. This is so hard to decide. I swing towards Air just because of the price-gap. Or maybe i'll wait for a next Gen Air?........

A 14 inch iPad with MacOS option and Magic Keyboard, that is an instant yes from me. I hate my MacBook and love my mini and 11 inch iPad and would love to develop iOS applications using Xcode on a big screen iPad. The advantage of Tablets are the excessive options for input: camera, pencil, touchscreen, keyboard, trackPad, speech Also the connectivity is great with cellular versions. You cannot really use google maps on a MacBook.

That would be perfect: a fully-fledged OS on the iPad with no compromise. I don’t see the point having a MacBook Air AND the iPad, considering that the latter could perfectly replace the first. To a larger extent, perhaps a high performance iPad Pro could even replace the MacBook Pro. And the iMac (which would become just a dock with a huge screen for the iPad. 😊

I am really disappointed that we didn’t get the function row keys on the magic keyboard for the iPad Pro. Apple could have easily done that without increasing much price.

It would be great if you could switch back and forth between MacOS and iPadOS. MacOS because it would give iPad access to Apps only available to MacOS like WoW :). And iPadOS because so much development on it and it's quite good relative to other tablet OSs. So if you could reboot into one or the other, that would be totally cool man.

Wouldn’t it be better to just have Mac apps on iPadOS though? Then you don’t have to reboot. Mac can run iPad apps within macOS. No reason iPad can’t run Mac apps.

I think it’s high time we all accept the fact that the iPad is an assistive device for your laptop. As someone using an M1 iPad and a 16” M1 MacBook Pro, my iPad is what I use if I want to work away from my desk. I don’t even want MacOS on my iPad even, Stage manager is just fine from a UX standpoint. IMO

The whole problem with the iPad line up bloat is that they are trying to make the iPad a laptop replacement which it is not and never will be it will at best and should just supplement a laptop not replace it. The best move imo is to make a foldable MacBook with iPad touch interfacing and Apple Pencil support but I don’t know if Apple will do that. I think the iPad Mini is actually a good product in that it fits the niche that an iPad/tablet is supposed to that being a in between a phone and a laptop as far as portability. The iPad Mini’s ability to take it out of a bag and be able to hold in one hand write/draw/interact with the other, as well as being able to comfortably hold in 2 hands is a highly underrated feature. I think the 8”-10” range is perfect for that. Once you start to get into the 11-12.9” range you might as well get a small laptop bc you kinda get the worst of both a laptop and a tablet at that point as far as portability as well as price to power to use ability ratio. 8-10” fill in that classic paperback book/sketchbook/notepad size that the iPad is really meant to replace, because imo the iPad form factor is optimal for things like light productivity, note taking, reading content consumption, gaming, etc. .

Honestly, apple is shooting in its own leg because of this confusion about all those various forms of crazy decisions they made in ipads … it leads to, in my case, NOT knowing which new one to buy and therefore stay with my old one … I assume I am not the only one in that position right now 😮

I’m honestly tired of Apple holding back their products so you spend more money. A lot of these have competitors with mature products that serve dual purpose. For ex. I just got a Surface Pro and I saved $600 instead of having to get a Ipad and a Mac. And with Apple releasing its software on PC it makes less and less sense to go with Apple. Eventually I think Apple will have to release a hybrid device running Mac OS. Software wise to be fair Mac OS would be horrid using touch. Touch point would have to be redid for alot similar to the issues Windows has had. I think Apples Ipad line up is overcrowded but I disagree the Air isn’t needed. If anything I think the Pro line up should consist of a 11.5”, 12.9” and 14.1” and if they updated the hardware could price them a little hire making the Air a true mid tier device. And maybe then they could even offer 128gb as the standard with the Pro line going with 256gb storage

@4:42 See, this is a problem: I am on the market for a tablet that I can put a keyboard on and use as a laptop - I am replacing a Surface 3 device. An iPad is currently a very, very good option but it's painful to see that for the price of a 12.9" Pro + Keyboard, as you say, I can buy a fully fledged Mac book! But the Mac book lacks that simple tablet functionality which I do want, so the Surface 3 might end up being replaced by a 2 in 1 laptop like the Asus flow X13: This can be used as a tablet due to the 360 folding screen, has a dedicated RTX3050Ti so it pisses performance all over the place and it ends up being cheaper than the iPad...
