Same as a kid I was seriously convinced when he had his match with mankind he really was buried alive and actually rose his hand out of that grave him still being “alive” and telling my dad when I was 13 he did dad he really rose out of the grave he’s alive!😂😂good times man I’m 20 now and those things I’ll never forget
Yeah I did believe that Undertaker was a mystical being when I was growing up. Hats off to Mark Calaway for dedicating so much of his life to making our childhoods magical.
@@Mimirrrr I used to fall asleep with his matches, his entry took 3 hours, he'd twist the arm of his opponent, climb the ropes for 2 hours and drop down another 2 hours later, any normal martial artist would've killed him 10,000 times over by then
@@NoName-bb2pu did you ever heard about acting? these guys are actors with physical condition to take some real shots even if the fight is 100% scripted, they are supposed to entertain the audience and not compete with themselves for real, one could say it is a fighting themed circus, and they do their job with great excellence.
Almost everyone looks for something new after they retire, dunno why you find that so mindblowing? Undertaker is legend, doesnt need to be shilled for at every second XD
I haven't watched wrestling in like 15 years. This man was an absolute icon. Its sad to see these old boys finally reaching the end of their time in the spotlight. Thanks for everything 'Taker!
@@gdubya83 same mate switched to ufc in the 2000s but when I was young WWF was all i watched hahah the rock was my favourite loved him v stone cold sone great memories
@@mikethestoner Yeah, them too. Funny story, I was at Camp Mujuk S. Korea in '05. The bar owner was playing some old school Ufc rerun and it was one of the fights that was dull grappling and the fighters were gassed out. Mr. Kim the bar owner looked over and said "These guys homo".
It really did man. I can recall how I felt when he came on stage. The clocks, the bells, the thunder, the hat and coat. Just a legend. The biggest legend of this sport, no cap
MJF is one of the few who stay in character 24/7 upon leaving their home. 99.9% of wrestlers don't even try to stay kayfabe once their segments are up.
Thats why the only wrestler ive cared about since i stopped watching is Roman... seems like good smart dude who cares about the future of the WWE not his own career. He couldve left the WWE years ago for hollywood and probably be successful but hasnt.
In 2008 a group of buddies and I went to an Applebee’s in Louisiana and Undertaker was there eating with a woman. We respected him and let them be but he obviously saw us fan boying because he surprised us and paid for our meal. Super bummed we didn’t snag a photo but he sure appreciated the fact that we respected his privacy and now we can say “Undertaker bought us dinner” for the rest of our lives.
I cant seem to find it on imdb but I swear he was in Critters as a bounty hunter and even in that role he stayed in character albeit with some weird high pitched voice for comedy. Also he was in Suburban Commando with Hogan and again was in character.
Yup, he was on some different level. Rock was good, but you could, as a kid, kinda understand that he was acting mostly - I also was young af, I don't know if he had much of his life out there, or was already making movies. Same for Cena, and so on. It's funny that we kinda love guys that 1. are genuine 2. or sucessfully act the exact opposite of what they actually are. I love Randy Orton and Taker for that - making you believe that they're 'vain', when they're more kind-hearted than most. I was a kid, but I unexplicably felt more respect for these guys. We're also lucky guys like Taker weren't 'mismanaged' by WWE.
@@DarkForceUbz rock even now still kinda acts the same as his character in the wwe so I always figured he was just playing himself (besides him speaking in third-person lol) but undertaker was definitely THE guy that convinced me he was an Undertaker...the match where Kane "kills him" and when Undertaker returns without a chopper and beyond the grave giving Kane the thousand yard stare as he walks toward him was an amazing time for me.
Seriously bro, I honestly think he should keep going as the undertaker until he can’t anymore. Like to me it makes more sense, he’s an undead zombie, so the older he gets the more zombie he becomes. I’m all for 64 year old undertaker just making an entrance if that’s all he could do I LOVE THE UNDERTAKER🔥🖤🖤
@@ssg2417 The problem is he can't anymore. His body has taken a MOUNTAIN of punishment over the years. It takes its toll eventually. There has to be a point where he decides enough is enough or to keep risking his body to the point where he could damage himself even worse.
Not only was he destroying himself physically for 30 years. He stayed in character for 30 years non stop. No interviews, no special appearances, no public interactions. Chris Evans goes on set and pretends to be Captain America about 7 hours a day for a few months. Then he goes back to living the life of a rockstar. Mark was The Undertaker for 30 years. I've never seen that much dedication and passion towards anything.
@@jayr3381 stop with that logic. some Gen Z people grew up watching this guys. I grew up watching him, Kaneh, Steve Austin, Triple H, Edge and so on. Stop generalizing like that.
I saw this guy go up to a kid in a wheel chair, give him a bunch of souvenirs, take a picture with him and make that kid feel like he was the most important person in that building. He is a class act.
This guy is so amazing. No words to describe. He has a very good memory and talks so well. If he wish he could have enter Hollywood like the Rock and John Cena and do better, yet he stayed in his character for 30 years even outside. This guy is a real man. His commitment and determination is so unreal. We are blessed to have him.
It’s crazy to think that in today’s day and age no wrestler would be able to stay in character even off camera because of social media where back in the 80s and 90s you could do that because social media didn’t exist now with social media everybody knows every single thing about someone 24/7 I really do miss the days before social media.
I don’t know if he’d automatically do better because you’ve actually gotta have some level of acting chops. And before people say it, playing a character in a ring and playing one on screen are completely different animals. The ring is akin to theater, and old school theater at that, and it rarely translates well to modern movie sensibilities. And though I almost hate to say it, for actual skill and ability, Cena is better than Rocky; he can occasionally disappear into a character, whereas Dwayne, with a few, admittedly notable, exceptions, doesn’t. Taker was amazing at his gimmick, but so was Stone Cold - and look how well his Hollywood attempts went.
A lot of valuable lessons with Taker. In this video is his ability to hold character outside the ring and kept all exposure to absolute minimum. That created the allure for him for so many years. 👍
What a very interesting and very human take on the dead man. He's such a cool guy, very honest about being "lost" after 30 years in the business. You'd never expect a 6'10" badass dude to be so open and honest about his struggles. Mad respect. I hope you have found what you are passionate about, Mark. Thank you for so many years of hard work. I started watching him when I was 5, and I am 35 now. That is mindblowing to me.
Man, when a successful person like him after 30 years says "I gotta find something that I'm passionate about" that shows you that the struggle of life never ends, you always gotta chase something to feel whole
Yeah, man. I thought he would be one of those people who would have felt fulfilled after the career he's had but it sounds like someone getting done with a 9-5 to pursue something more meaningful. I think there's a lesson here: He spent his life in character all those years, he will be asking himself whether it was worth it...
3 decades of being in one wrestling company and never breaking character once in or out of the ring, that's pure dedication. Nothing but love and respect for this true legend
@Victor Alvarez I know right? And when most wrestler's popularity starts to fizzle out or their acts starts to grow stale, Undertaker not only remained over but he constantly kept his charater fresh throughout his run.
My friends at college and later at post grad called me "taker" not cause I can fight or entertain or anything but just because of me being an Undertaker fan. Huge part of my childhood. Thank you for everything Undertaker.
Taker staying in character his whole career has given him so much content post retirement. It is literally a whole new life. Today's workers can learn from that.
I wonder if he will end up suffering mentally because he’s been that character for so long. He’s probably going to have issues adapting back to his life
The transition to a new life ain't something to take lightly, have lots of respect for Mark and his long-lived career! I do wish him the best at figuring out what he's passionate about, and to go on this new journey full force. Good luck man!
This man was incredible and was completely captivating to watch growing up and his fans truly LOVED him and the ride he took us on all those years. Much respect.
I was a teenage fan, I loved this interview I could listen to many stories from Mark. He nailed the psychology of his character, and stayed in it when out with fans. Legend and so humble. What a great guy.
Imagine how thrilled Tony would have been to see Joe get tombstoned through a table live in front of him? Friends or not, the look on Tony's face would have been priceless! LMAO!
Personally I first came to know him when he was i WWF 90tis was at highschool and Bret Hitman those days was mt favourite you could see all Boys squezeed one place every Tuesday to watch thing tiny Tv Bavk 8n My beut8ful Motherland KENYA +44 LONDON LOCKED
Watch a bunch of docuseries out there about him, he had to constantly train for months in order to handle one fight the last few years, professional wrestlers are all pretty crippled so he has done well for himself
I think he is genuinely happy that he is able to talk about this stuff finally, having kept himself so reclusive and quiet for so long. Good to see him finally being himself.
The Undertaker didn't kept quiet for so long, you've just gotten used to him being quiet because you've never seen any of his interviews when he's not playing his Undertaker character on TV. There's already a lot of Undertaker interviews like this, including ones he made as recently as a year or two ago.
@@jerelminter Yeah I know about those interviews, but he has never been this open and in depth about things in his career and his personal life. He was quiet for a long time because he is only just speaking about a lot of things nobody knew anything about.
Yeah the new shit is weak so glad i was borne when i was 91 i remember so much about this dude and wrestling than but now, shit man its a soap opera haha
What an interesting interview this was. Love the Undertaker, man. Can't believe it's been so many years I have been watching him, playing WWE cards with friends and cousins and now we are all here in this pandemic together watching this interview. Man, I feel old.
I remember when I was around 11 years old (I’m 43) and my brother and I were watching midgets vs women. I have no idea what promotion it was, but that’s what we were watching. My father walks in and say “You know that’s fake right?” My brother and I thought dude was crazy. Years later I remember that moment. 😂
I saw taker at a hotel in 1995. He’s ALWAYS in character. Admirable for a man to do it that long. That’s why we all love the man. The character was believable and he was true to it.
What an awesome interview! Great humble man and he was always my favorite from the moment he was the ? mark on the 4-on-4 tag team match for a main event when I was just a young pup and then all the lights go out and here comes this Undertaker that just stole the show! I will always love you Undertaker!
he was so aware of the character he was creating and what it meaned to people to the point he lived that persona basically his entire life. if that don't show how much he cares for other people and their happiness. i dont know what does.
My mom met this man a long time ago when she use to clean the office rooms and just the WWF location in general in Stamford Ct. This dude rolled his eyes back at my mom one day and she never went back again 😂😂
I just had a back and forth last night about a guy calling Coach Greg Adams a legend lol. You probably have no idea who that is nor should you. I tried explaining to this simple ass loser that the guy that helped you understand that you're a simp and women take advantage of you is not a legend, he's just a guy that's had more interactions with women than you and he understands how they work and you don't that does not make him a legend. Now your comment? That is accurate. The undertaker is truly a legend. He will be talked about and his highlights will be shown and viewed after he has passed away. That's a legend. You understand what a legend is!
I used to watch this man wrestle when I was a little kid, then I took a long break away from wrestling and got to watch him again during the attitude era. The undertaker has been wrestling probably longer then I've been alive and I'm not young. That is true legend status right there.
@@KerryKing931 nope, Taker on many occasions talked about the streak ending Vince didn’t want to do it cause the streak was a main attraction within wrestlemania
The thought of such a legend now basically doing a rediscovery is mind-bending. Talk about a legend larger than life. I really hope he enjoys retirement. Not one soul on earth (well, in entertainment/sports) has earned a happy and healthy retirement on the back of tireless work. Sidenote: Tony Hinchcliffe really chimed in at a peak moment. He knew what we all know (as fans) and made sure to get his point in. Well done really,
@@mr.mayhem6755 oh no doubt ! I hope he enjoyed it as well because we all enjoyed life becuase of him....just little saddening to think he didnt do interviews, be the sports fan that he all these things "openly" in order not to spoil the hero for us.....
@@Calilou52 i see what ylu mean but in my perspective not really....these other athletes main thing to consider is to jot act like a bunch of foold.and idiots outside their sport....which apparently is hard but besides they are able to carry on their usual life ...just my thinking
But in a sense it was easier than and harder now bc unlike now back then u didn’t have the internet, all these cameras, technology where nothings really secret anymore bc everything’s being filmed on cameras and posted on various internet platforms. That said Taker did whatever he did brilliantly but it was in the last 30 years of being able to. If he entered somewhere between 2004-2008 we’d have been denied the greatest character ever in the business!
I respect the he’ll even more out of Taker bc he’s right he could’ve cashed in on all the equity he’s built up but knowing that a lot of young talents are coming up he decided to walk away with what he believes was the best match he could’ve gone out on. He deserved for that to happen in front of fans and bc Vince LOVES to cash in on anything he can he may request Taker for one more match. If that happens it might be a Flair situation where he’s inducted into the HOF the night before his last match. Unlike Flair, Taker won’t tarnish it by going to another company to wrestle.
Watching Undertaker listening to him in a podcast feels surreal.... We all knew The Undertaker was a character but still he played it for soo long n with such a finesse that its reallly surreal to see the man behind the character.... Hats off man... Thanku for entertaining us for 3 decades ❤❤
@@mikey3666 To be fair, it's the same model as youtube. Free version with ads, premium with no ads. His plan DID fail though. Most people didn't migrate to Spotify.
Being born , entertaining people for 30+ years and not breaking character even once is something only great people can do. I was inspired by the Undertaker ,Goldberg in my childhood. Whenever i was in a fight I never sucker punched or cheated anyone . I thank you undertaker for giving my childhood-self a great idol.
