John Peel's favourite ever song and not hard to understand why. Timeless teenage frustration in 2 and a half minutes of raucous pop punk heaven. Play it loud and feel free to pogo -- you know you want to.

Something like 4 years ago, i met an Irish customer at my work place in South Italy (i'm Italian). He said he was from Derry, and i said "oh, there's a great band in your city, The Undertones, i love them". He was SO happy and surprised to see an Undertones fan in a remote city in South Italy, we talked in broken English about bands and music for almost an hour. One of my best memories.

The Italians and the Irish, so similar. All love their mums, family orientated, love food, big show offs (the boys!), very gorgeous (the girls), like to talk a lot. Yes. Interchangeable the Irish and the Italians. Love them all.

The game of football was invented in tenth century ireland!, it began as two warring families locked in a dispute over the ownership of a turnip, every year since, the battle was re enacted, using the severed head of enemies,..rather than the blatantly extravagant waste of a good turnip!😂

Track is about the excitement and enthusiasm of adolescent love. It is about experiencing the intensity of first love and infatuation. It captures the feelings of longing, desire, and energy that come with being a teenager. The song is a celebration of innocent teenage love and the emotions associated with it. The chorus refers to the desire to keep the excitement of teenage love alive and to enjoy it for as long as possible. The song reflects on the joy of young love and encourages everyone to embrace it and cherish the moments of teenage bliss.

@gustavomantovani8309
@gustavomantovani8309 4 года назад
I can understand what you´re saying but if you listen closer (maybe with headphones) you will notice it is actually the hi-hats. And he does go to the ride for a little short period by the end of the song. I know it´s subtle but it´s there. My best guess is that the drumsticks could be with nylon tips which helped with that sound being very similar to a ride cymbal or even just a regular but kinda heavy wood tip drumstick. I used to play this with by Tribute band and YES it is one of the greatest songs ever!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!
@markpatrick8188
@markpatrick8188 2 года назад
@@gustavomantovani8309 Spot on w/the nylon tips. With the guitar distortion so powerful...the nylon tips make a 'click' that can easily be mistaken for a 'ping'.....and, as you said, he goes to the ride for a measure and that's where you can tell the difference. I made the same mistake until I repeatedly listened.

I went to John Peel's funeral in Bury St Edmonds in November 2004. As his coffin was carried out of the church there was a sound system set up to relay the funeral service to the people outside and this was played REALLY LOUDLY. His coffin was draped in a Liverpool flag.

Godamn I just got into these guys a week ago and I've been devouring everything I can on youtube. Callie1m1Price I've been thinking about it more, and now I'm kind of glad that I only recently discovered these guys. It's great to listen to music that makes me feel eighteen again without it being some kind of personal nostalgia trip. Although I would have loved to have seen them in their heyday!
