Something like 4 years ago, i met an Irish customer at my work place in South Italy (i'm Italian). He said he was from Derry, and i said "oh, there's a great band in your city, The Undertones, i love them". He was SO happy and surprised to see an Undertones fan in a remote city in South Italy, we talked in broken English about bands and music for almost an hour. One of my best memories.

I remember taping it off the radio. My mum used to let me stay up to listen to John Peel's Rockpile. Dad would smuggle me into some gigs, too. I was lucky to have parents who actively encouraged me to listen to punk, as well as to 50s and 60s stuff, and classical music, too.

This song was made to be turned up loud and listened to at full volume. Who agrees

i'm a Derry boy and saw them live many times in the Casbah Club which was little more than a portacabin. One night people were dancing on the roof and fell through it so the Untertones literally brought the house down.

It's one of those timeless songs that could have been released in the 1960's, 70's, 80's, 90's or 2000's and wouldn't seem out of place

Radio 1 DJ John Peel (RIP) gave this band plenty of air play, which helped the success of the record. Great band, Great DJ sorely missed.

Saw The Undertones twice in the late 70's in Cardiff (yes I am 60)... Fergul Sharkey was the most energetic and exciting singer.. Still awesome ❤

Total classic. Heard it thousands of times in my life time and never fails to hit the spot each time. An outstanding band.

Man I was 11 when this came out and I’ve never heard it until now. Way kool, the late 70’s and early 80’s will always be my favorite time of growing up and occasionally I revert right back to an early teenager. I’m 58 in the mirror but all too often 13-20 depending on the mood…lol 😎

I was already 30 when this was released and I STILL think it's one of THE best-ever single records EVER!

So much for these so called great recording companies who cannot see talent when it's presented to them . Probably from their background and being DERRY boys . The Undertones gave them the middle finger with great thanks and appreciation to John Peel .

When I was 19 i fell into a pub in a small Irish town called Kiltegan. The pub was called Katie Lowes and a bunch of lads were having a jam. I hears Where is my mind by the Pixies and Teenage Kicks. I'm still friends with all those guys.

Bought a copy the day after John Peel (RIP) first played this (twice, because it was so good) on his evening radio show. I still listen to the Undertones when I need to be cheered up, forty something years later.

Saw them live last night in Copenhagen. Even without Fergal Sharkey, it was a great performance! Hugh Cornwell was warming up to the show! Cool night of old school punk rock! 😁

I'm a primary teacher (in a mixed kg/primary/secondary school). I want to do extra curricular rock band, but I'm worried what people would think if I did this song. Bonus: I served Fergal Sharkey in the restaurant I used to work in.

Just turned 70 and still love this

One of the great rock songs of all time. I bought this album when it came out in 1979. Listened to it a few hundred times, but living in the cultural backwater of San Antonio, I never got to see this video. They were the Irish Ramones.

I met my husband as teenagers but we went our separate ways and married other people I met him again in the hospital where I was working we couldn’t believe we had met again both off us were divorced within 10mths we were married he said he wasn’t letting me get away again he said this song reminded him off our teenage years I told him I never thought I’d bring my work home with me he was the love of my life my soulmate but my heart was broken in September 2018 when he was killed in a motorcycle accident love you now and forever Martin until we are reunited and we can dance to teenage kicks xx

Who's here in 2024?

I went to John Peel's funeral in Bury St Edmonds in November 2004. As his coffin was carried out of the church there was a sound system set up to relay the funeral service to the people outside and this was played REALLY LOUDLY. His coffin was draped in a Liverpool flag.

This song is so simple... and so powerful!

Sometimes the most simple things done well are all that it needs and this is a very basic song but done so well that it is timeless.

First heard this song in 2005 when I was aged 17, assumed from the sound it was from the early '90s or maybe late '80s. Found out just now it was actually 1978. Talk about timeless. Incredible.

There are great songs. Then there are songs so great they affect you at a molecular level... I'd seen Pretty Vacant on TOTP, changed my life as a kid. Then this came out. First band I saw live (Undertones, Birmingham Odeon), brilliant.

Instead of putting flowers on John Peel's grave I come here sometimes, play it (twice in a row) through my hifi at full volume and dance around my lounge like a bell end.

Godamn I just got into these guys a week ago and I've been devouring everything I can on youtube. It's so energetic and screams so much of adolescence that it's almost heartbreaking it to be only discovering this as an approaching middle age man. I should have been jamming out to this in my youth, living by this, man is it good.

I was 13 when this song released, god I feel so old, I remember loving this song when I was younger, now my 2nd youngest daughter has gotten into punk, it's reminded me of myself.
