Jayanth Shailendra super specific niche market in the states & Canada, the rest of the world prefer bikes unless you can make a case for an alternative which they didn’t do.
This is true thats why meepo is doing better but its a hub style but its good less maintenance. I want a meteoboard x i hear it will go up to $200 so almost $2800 for the board.
i am paid 2k in upgrade for a used custom board that wasn't even the best version offered... and believe me I got the best bang for the buck direct-drive and everything...
Um they sold one for $800 and it was amazing. Best thing I ever bought. They had great customer support and a great quality product. I would buy another one but one wheel had a superior product for $950 and that’s my next purchase. Never wanted a scooter so that’s when Boosted lost me. Sad for Boosted.
Agree with this. A Xiaomi is like 1/5th the price and does just as good, and when the battery gets really bad I can still buy 4 more for the cost of 1 Boosted
Boosted are overpriced and under powered in my opinion, id rather get an evolve or one wheel there a little more expansive but the diffrence in quality is amazing.
@@NFS-shade depends on budget there are guides online and full kits to make any long board into an electric that will run you $150+ there the best option if your good with your hands there better then any company built as you can customize everything from brushless motors to diffrent gear ratios.
@@forgottenburger1718 thanks, as someone who has never really skateboarded before should i learn on a real "normal" skateboard first? Or safer to invest in something like a one wheel?
And sing “catch ya later alligator” as you pass people who will respond “in a while crocodile “ and oh how everyone on the planet will laugh and be happy
There are better options for cheaper. China produces boards that are better than boosted in build quality and performance at ~$700 and boosted is no longer a great example of an electric board. E skateboards are great urban tools for last mile commutes in crowded cities like SF and NYC. If your commute really demands a car, then get a car.
Thats a resonable take when the board isnt water puddle or rain proof. If it gets hit by anything its dead. Ive had my onewheel in every climate, altitude. My OWXR has been hit by 3 CARS! Had numerous nose dives and the worst damage has been done? I have had to re thread 2 screw's that's it! That makes it well worth $1,800. Not having to worry about my tank braking under my hard use. E skateboard are to fragile. So spending that much money on a POS wood and plastic board is a wast of money. Give me my metal frame with sliders on any day over your plastic piece of shit e boards.
They lacked the vision to develop a very cheap product. Their signature model is excellent and necessary, but they should've developed their own manufacturing system with automation and other modern techniques instead of relying solely on Chinese manufacturing.
I'm pretty sure you need a whole industry ecosystem working together to achieve something like that. I mean, Trump has been pushing it for so long and how far did it go?
@@CoveringFish it's a well known fact that there was a trade deficit between China and the US. Trump improved the market balance and it brought tremendous success for the American stock market.
When Boosted appeared on the market, they were by far the best product available. Great performance, amazing durability and top of the line customer support. As the e-vehicle market matured, other manufacturers began to catch up to that level of quality while boosted basically stayed the same. They tried to introduce a budget version of their board but it was still more expensive than what the competition had to offer. Also from my experience, getting it shipped to other countries was not a pleasant experience. Having a ~20% import tax on an already expensive product and on top of that, having to pay $100 shipping was what ultimately led me to choose a different board. Boosted was often called "the Apple of electric skateboards" but unlike Apple, they didn't have the whole ecosystem of products to keep customers loyal to them. Shame to see them go but unfortunately that's how competition works. If you don't adapt, you're gonna get beat
Problem with xiaomi is they don't have skateboards. Scooter is not the same as skateboard. I want something I can carry in the subway train and take it upto somewhere quiet and open road. That can't be done with scooters.
The thing is most company's wouldn't make as much in the united states. Plus, they'd get hammered with taxes. But then again most of them can easily afford the taxes. It's the small ones that would get hammered.
It ain't gonna happen. Manufacturing in the US just too expensive and not profitable enough . The US has stuck to the IT and service industry for more and easier profits, it's not going back to manufacturing, EVER and that's a fact , period.
When Sanjay left, the new, passionless CEO decided to support the super expensive scooter in a market where people are renting electric scooters for less than 10 bucks a day. No one was renting Boosted BOARDS. There was NOOO "cool factor" with the scooters. It's a beautiful build, but I RARELY saw Boosted Scooters on the NYC bike paths, I saw every other scooter. So, for Boosted to support that "failing" scooter so soon before the China Tariff war, it just knocked them down. Hopefully this isn't the end. I love my Mini-X. I'm an older, middle aged woman who uses it to travel around Manhattan and it's amazing. I really hope they can pull it together. P.S. About the scooter...IT'S FOURTY SIX POUNDS!! I struggle with the 17 pound Mini-X a little, but I can bring it into a restaurant, a store, a supermarket, etc. The Scooter is like a fold up bike, but it's a bit more of a responsibility than a board and I wouldn't even consider a 46 pound vehicle. That's not light.
What skateboard company in the history of the world switched to making scooters in the most saturated market during a financial crisis? ..... so genius.
@@JoelMMcKinney I thought about that and immediately came up with the plot for the movie/musical "The Producers". They created a pro-Hitler musical in order to lose money for tax purposes. That HAS to be the reason. Nothing else fits.
Boosted was overpriced trash and the real world mileage was about 10 km. The second this thing was being sold other scooters were being sold for cheaper with suspensions and better real-world mileage!
I wouldn't say it was an "unfortunate" end. People mainly wanted it because it was popular. Alot of other eboards are probably better with a more affordable price.
@@esk8jaimes My only regret is not buying the 9ah one. If you're getting one, and you're in the city with bumpy roads, I'd recommend the all terrain wheels and the 9ah. This board takes a lot of power.
@@esk8jaimes Yes. Both the standard and the ER variant can use the same wheels. As long as it's the H20T of course. I don't know if it fits the other variants such as the h9 and stuff.
It's effing expensive Lew like honestly no one has 1600 dollars for a damn boosted so yeah I rather just buy a scooter !! I don't even understand why it's so expensive it's a board with 2 motors and a remote 😂
You just answered yourself fine. The motor, esc, and battery. Remotes are cheap, but the process of making it accessible while trying to maintain an ip rating is pricey.
It’s not like the boosted board design is unique at all. It’s just a 🛹 with an electric motor. So there’s going be tons of copycats and DIY kits coming out of china.
They should of made a base over seas. To have the product made over seas then shipped to the states. Might of been expensive but a good move in the long run.
boosted boards were like $1500 and they had competitors selling similar products for under $500... never had interest in a company who finesses like that
the guy the name it’s different because iPhones perform better but boosted birds were relatively the same and the price gap isn’t as much between phones
@@Noah-jb9om You just made my argument. iPhone is the epitome of boosted boards. They both sell you slower hardware with poor build quality preferring planned obsolescence over quality and sell it to you as a "feature". IE no sdcard, no duel sim, no standard cables, no headphone jack, no replaceable battery, no right to repair. But hey it's a "feature". LoL Face it your a hypocrite on this topic. Oh an FYI, I'm a Moto G6 pluse, I get 8 fast CPUs, not some 3 core cpu like iphone, a fast GPU, Duel SIM and is international and not tied just the USA cell carrier's an SDCARD with a 400GB card in it for $80. An I could buy mine with cash for $300. And have the freedom to choose any carrier's I wish anywhere in the world. An I own a OWXR. It and me have been hit by 3 cars and we still refuses to break. Its a TANK, same phone through all the hit and runs, no cracked screen. I prefer function over vanity and it shows. You buy over priced $800 phones every other year or when yours breaks on contract, but you bock at paying for a quality product that wont break because its +$1,000. You hypocrite! 🤣
They charged WAY too much. I bought a Lectric Longboard for like $400 dollars that gives over twice the range. They went for the Apple approach and tried to sell a “premium” experience. Unlike a smartphone, not everyone needs an electric longboard. And $1000+ for something that isn’t a necessity just isn’t viable for the majority of people. Especially when you can get something with better stats at a fraction of the cost
Lol I’m hoping that boosted isn’t going to rip me off and not give me the board. I will definitely pursue other buying options if they don’t send me it.
Safe? Well they were as safe as a skateboard could be, but cheap? Nah it was wayyy over priced. I was thinking about getting a revel electric skateboard kit, where you could just put it on any skateboard, and it’s only 500 dollRs. You can also remove the battery so you can bring it on an airplane
3 reasons for BoostedBoard’s fail. 1. The price. Not many people can afford a $1500 skateboard. 2. Influx of competition. 3. Lack of online promotion and brand awareness. @ytcontentcreators
I'm currently saving for an xr I cannot wait! Think the thing that kills a booted board isn't necessarily the price seeing how a one wheel is 1800 however they did come out with the pint for 950. Anyways. The boosted is pretty much a 1 trick pony. Definitely not as nimble as a onewheel and there's no doubt you can take a one wheel way more places over more terrain / uneven surfaces / crappy sidewalks than a boosted board. Another key seeking point. Completely hands free with a one wheel. One less thing to lose/break. One wheels are basically bomb proof!
Yea, my teamgee board costed under $300 and actually rides like a lonboard. Belt driven boards just aren't the way to go...they should have aimed at making cheaper boards with more options like hub motors.
I can not understand. Boosted boards were never cheap and already had a good profit margin. So many people have bought these boards. And suddenly she should be broke. What
Of course boosted boards is dying out. They're asking $1K for long boards. One of the reasons why people move to skateboards and longboards is because they're an AFFORDABLE option of transportation. $1K is not affordable for a skateboard or long board, electric or not. For $1K people can easily buy a used Honda, an entire car. And with that you get storage, shelter from the weather, security, comfortable chairs, space for multiple passangers, a ton more mileage, the ability to move heavy things around, and at the extreme potential for temporary living space. I'm sure I missed a bunch of other reasons to get a car. $1K for a car, a motorcycle, or even a high-end bicycle is more justifiable than paying $1K for a board with 4wheels, electric or not. At that point why would most people opt for a longboard? The whole business model doesn't work.
The brand “Meepo” sells amazing boards that go the same speed and are extremely powerful and sells a board for about $400 and they are AMAZING, highly recommend over the INSANE price of boosted
Sad to see these companies go dwn. That's one reason why I switched to DIY my own custom eboard. But still ride my first ever purchase of an evolve CGT eboard.
Such a great company, a bit pricey, but they replaced anything the board ever has needed and were always there for support. I always felt safe at speeds and that built my trust.
Here’s the problem they sold all their boards to the people who can afford it and that was it. They needed to create a product that was between $200 and $600 to stay afloat Imagine having three kids and each one wanted one at $1500 that’s not happening but if you’re telling me a $300 board that’s $900 instead of $4,500
Time for EVOLVE to rise up! Fucking love my Evolve GTR, been ripping all over Bali on it for the past 8 months with no problems plus you can change to offroad wheels which I use 90% of the time. EVOLVE deserves the attention, more than 30 miles of range and 30mph top speed.
Surprised they don’t have money, with all that publicity and lew even said “boosted board” is the name for electric skateboards, must have been bad business moves.
Tbh I really want a halo board but theres a brand called soflow and their 3.0 model is way faster than the one I want and then theres Revel with their electric skateboard kit to make any longboard into electric and even make them 4 wheel drive by paring the two kits!
I love my boosted mini, I’ve done over 400 miles on it, I use it to go to work and back during the summer, and use it all the time just to get the the shops round the corner. Sad to see the company go
Seeing the Boosted team on a TED talk many years ago inspired me to get into light electric vehicles. I got into ebike kits because they are cheap and you can make them whatever you want. I hope Boosted survives because I always aspired to have one of their amazing longboards.
Ebikes crushed them. Been skateboardiing for almost 50 years and it's much safer flying around on an ebike than an electric skateboard. And you can get a descent ebike for $1k to $1.5K
The tariffs thing is just an excuse to blame Trump for shortcomings in how you ran your business. If you think about it, ALL of their lower priced competitors are from China. They are all in the same boat (literally) as boosted. Bottom line, they priced themselves out of the market without providing anything extra to the buyer. They were one of the first, but they did not innovate or change with the market. I'm quite happy with my Wowgo (1st gen) and it was 1/4 the price.
Boosted had a couple of problems: the skateboards were hard to ride and really really expensive. in places like the UK, the roads are not predictable enough to ride these things and they never attempted to make the proposition that these could be a viable option instead of bikes. Sharing bikes/electric rent bikes across the globe probably didn’t help and neither did the hoverboard craze that was way way cheaper to get into. one other EU issue was how legal they were, it simply wasn’t clear and they did nothing to address that. Shame because you couldn’t wish for better promo than Casey Neistat
I wanted to buy one because the board blends better with public environments and doesn't grab as much unwanted attention as the hoverboard... but after seeing the price I just went with the hoverboard.. same function, much cheaper
I gotta be real here, its horrible that people will lose their jobs over this, but lets honest, it was destined to happen... How a company can think charging $2000 for an electric skateboard that isn't even produced in their home country absolutely astonishes me. Social media will only sell so many products for you, and in the real world, not many people are spending that type of cash on Chinese manufactured electric board...
I spent $500 on a knockoff boosted board, one of the many one available through various retailers through Amazon. Those aren't safe. The smoothness and confidence is gone. Boosted should have sold their product at a loss and then make boosted accessories. Hardware nowadays are means to get consumers locked into a software buying loop.
Boosted has always been one of the worst Esk8s. I can’t believe people are upset about boards that only have a 10 mile range. People just don’t really know what else is out there.
Part of the reason is because of the laws coming into effect that surround motorized transportation. If you have to pay for insurance, nobody is gonna buy it.
Truly disappointing. I love my boosted board, I’ve put thousands of miles on it and it’s just an incredible experience. I could see how and why they would go out, but I’m sad that my fears have come to fruition.
What pisses me off is that I bought it and NOONE IS SAYING WHETHER OR NOT THEY WILL STOP SERVICING BOARDS! I can’t find anyone with this info and I’m gonna be so pissed if I paid 1000 for a board and can’t get the free repairs that everyone loved boasting about
