Nice but .. Does it have a battery for the controller?, since the key 2nd gen has it and that also include the camera server ... How many cameras support , each camera take a little bit of processing juice, will that affect DPI and IDS? I use UniFi a lot and I love their products, but I think this is for home or small Company not medium, I personally use their NVR solution, more robust and reliable and the software has more and better features.

I have the dream machine Pro and the Orbi mesh Wi-Fi 6 in AP mode with 3 nodes and WOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!! I have Comcast to 2 gigabits per second fiber and I am getting full speed!

Looking for a suggestion in a router for my home, with my smart home growing, and a family of 5 with a growing list of devices added to the network all the time I am experiencing issues now, at this time I have 76 devices on my network at the time of writing this post. I have updated my internet package to fiber internet 750 mbps but the router is only broadcasting 250 mbps. I know a router would help but I am a noob when it comes to routers and don't know what to buy any suggestions

FOR ANYBODY ELSE GETTING A BOOT FAILED ERROR AND ARE SUPER BUMMED: I got a Boot Failed as well and did the recovery... turns out there was an issue that it would fail if there was no WAN connection on setup... super weird. The second I connected WAN and restarted, worked like a charm!

I love when I get a UI delivery... Their products are something i've fallen in love with... I have now setup multiple Small and Medium networks with all UI gear, and the interfaces are just amazing for me. I don't need the massive enterprise grade items that Cisco/Juniper/Aruba offers, UI is the PERFECT gear for Small SOHO and Medium office setups.

The UDM doesn't do TLS inspection so the DPI is not looking at your data, that is google.

How about HTTPS, encrypted traffic. To analyse that you need SSL inspection to find for instance malware in HTTPS traffic.

there's been a lot of bugs on the software, we have an aggregated 1gbps from 3 isp, the dream machines shows 100 percent utilization on the dashboard whereas the real load of our network is just 30 to 40 percent.

Great video. So great thati have UDM PRO as well xD. Fortunately i haven't had any issues with first boot. I used WAN2 for configuration then setup WAN1 and everything went butter smooth. I've switched from Opnsense VM

Subscribed man. I've watched a number of your bids I've the past few days and the algorithm now has you in my feed and I continue to watch. You're light years ahead of me but very useful. My question: I bought a zyxel and is way beyond my skillset. I just need something for my home that has preconfigured protections where you can monitor accordingly without having to be the engineer of the device. Do you recommend this or the firewalla gold? I don't like firewalla's 30 warranty as that seems a bit off they don't stand behind their product more than that but I have seen nothing but great reviews. Next, are either WiFi and of not can I use a newer asus router to be the access point? Thanks

Wd blue drives are crap unless you want to be the quality control replacing them yearly till you get a good one I've learned after going with wd black drives/blue then to seagate enterprise drives Noticed my work used hitachi drives in their POS systems never had a failure till we replaced them with wd blue with images on them already all 14 failed before the year. Second batch lasted four years So when 8tb drives became in my reach I went with four hgst drives 0 failures raid 5 just in case

Does the software allow for robust parental controls? I’d like to be able to set time restrictions for my kids devices and I’d like to be able to block certain devices from accessing the internet if I so choose. When I originally purchased a UDM (not the pro) it had the ability to click on a client and click it from the internet…the only problem is it didn’t block its internet access. Have they fixed that bug?

It says 1gbps because the ethernet link has negociated on 1gbps. In order to get the 3Gbps + ou will need to add a SFP+ at 10Gbps.

I think it's a firmware things. I'm on 1.7.2.2620 using the gig port for WAN and my Threat Management configuration option says: "Enabling Threat Management will affect the UniFi Dream Machine Pro maximum throughput (3.5 Gbps)"

@@Bobbyuk I like it, but I haven't really compared it to other appliances. It's very capable, and my speed maxes out around 950mbps. I like the IDS functionality as well. The only thing I dislike about it is that during the unboxing and initial installation, it started a firmware update that failed. I had to boot into rescue mode or whatever it's called and do a recovery. It's worked very well after that.

@@Bobbyuk get OPNSense (or PFSense, but many developers now went to OPN!). Unifi has the habbit of dropping products without much time, for example the IP-phones, the entire unifi video product line etc ... wouldn't recommend ubiquiti for any new setup right now until their business habits change. Also, OPN / PFSense has many advanced features and a really good gui. Runs on standard hardware also.

I thought the same thing on the display, "I'll never use this." right up until I rack mounted it and could quickly see the device temperature without having to pull out my laptop to login to the portal. In a business, seeing the mac address, IP as well as the CPU & memory usage makes for easy spot-checking potential issues and just confirming that you're working with the correct device

If it's a Unifi product.. Trust me.. It's all hype. It may look nice, and you may be amazed at the interface.. But as soon as you start trying to any advanced networking, you're going to find that they've crippled the device, added unneeded restrictions, and have placed limitations on your abilities that they have no business imposing. Take VPN connections for example.. You'd imagine you create your connection, and start adding in your routes.. Well.. if you have 1 or 2 routes, you're fine.. But any type of complex setup, you suddenly realize that unifi has limited you. You're not allowed to add any more than the number the've predefined that you're permitted to add. IDS & IPS? You're limited there too... You're only permitted to geoblock a limited number of countries... Why? Because Unifi said so... Oh and then also, they'll EOL your products, and make future versions of the controller not backwards compatible.. So even though there is nothing wrong with your device.. You have to take it and throw it in the trash and buy a new one... Why? Just because Unifi Said so.

Im kind of surprised you want 1 piece of gear to do multiple big pieces of functionality. I have my router only do router stuff and VPN. My surveillance system will continue to work even if the router catches fire lol.

This is a great device, but they are lacking 2 very important feature, at least imo, being able to use more than one IP adress on the Wan and not being able to setup a VPN client other than ipsec. I mean these are things that are basically standard in today's world and the fact that it is limited to one IP has caused multiple ppl I know to go with different hardware that is not as good with most of the other stuff.

Thé nerdiest is probably not true. It's probably nerdier to build your own with Soekris hardware that runs openbsd or one of those typical Chinese manufactured router boxes running Pfsense. But it's a great business or "tech enthusiast" home router for people that don't want to mess with the internals too much and like pretty user interfaces, aching for something like an apple product.

I tried setting up the UDM-Pro with my Spectrum modern but i keep getting an error on the app saying there is no internet. This basic dhcp and I am not sure why it is not working for me to set it up. I am new to Ubiquiti so I need all the help I can get. When I switch back to my Meraki it works like a charm. I have done multiple reboots of my modern yet no joy

I wish they were able to partner with one or even many SDWAN providers and include optional connection settings in the product so for these small/medium branch offices it could act as an SDWAN box aswell - but guess these providers want to push their own stuff :(

just to be clear, the packet inspection is basically blind to all https traffic. Not unless you're using your own SSL certifications and decrypting the traffic for inspection.

I found your channel today and loved the teach-ins on setting up home and SOHO networks. But, thinking of buying the UniFi Dream Machine right away I read lots of negative reviews; everything from being so noisy to difficulties obtaining stable operation and not achieving its advertised. I will stay with your RU-vid channel but you may want to reconsider your high level of enthusiasm for this new router. By the way, I installed a Ubiquiti router two or three years ago, and this beautiful flying saucer performs outstandingly.

Eh, not my style. I much prefer the Edge line. I like the okdschool style UI, I like that the app is completely optional. My set up is limited to 1Gig, but I went with that because the line from my "cabinet" (I still need a rack) is coax and it would just be too much effort to replace it with something that could handle more. Most my devices aren't upgradable past Gigabit anyway. I really hope Ubiquity doesn't end the Edge line of products, but the lack of anything to replace the aging AirCube has me worried. (That said, my second hand cubes work great!)

I kinda hate Ubiquiti because of multiple bad experiences at work. Had hardware stabilty issues in their switches, software issues with the management tools to a point where the database would corrupt it was always a chore. Switched to MikroTik, yes there is a learning curve but it gives a lot more freedom and once you perfected your config, stability. Would love to see you review a CCR unit. I have set up a MiktoTik network at home now with multiple cAP AC's, with CAPsMAN deployment is great!

Eh. It looked really awesome until the part where it has no POE and you can only use one of the SFP+ ports for lan. (Can't actually process 10g between two clients) it was so close to replacing the majority of my network equipment. I guess I'll stick with my 2960s and usg. Disappointing

Can you tell me What server rack you have I want to start going in deeper but I don't know what rack and other things I should start with. Please Help! :D

You need to check out Mikrotik if you want truly nerdy fun. They 100% do not hold your hand but it’s amazing to see what a 100-ish dollar router can do when running RouterOS.

I am confused. I have a USG-3P security gateway and a Cloud Key Gen2. Do I still need them if I get this or would it be an upgrade / replacement? Thanks.

Hey Chuck, I had a similar experience unboxing my UDM Pro. After initial setup and firmware update, it wouldn't boot. Ugh. I had to go into recovery mode and reset it to get it to work. It's working great now though. Love your video.

I have a UDM Pro, and ran into an i ssue. Im trying to migrate my network from a 192.168 to a 10.x.x.x. I had no problems creating the new network and started moving hosts. Problem is, none of the 192.168 can communicate with the 10.x.x.x network. Im lost and not sure where I need to setup routing between these 2 networks. Please advise.

I don't get it. No multiple IPs on a WAN interface. No load balancing if you have two WAN interfaces active. No LAG on the switch (and a useless switching capacity). No setup without UI account. No management without internet - seriously, the web management interface does not work when your internet goes down, even if you're on the same (V)LAN. Just one SFP+ LAN port. 320 EUR before tax. This router tries to solve a to of problems in a noob-friendly way but fails to deliver what a small-size business router should. I had so much trouble with this thing and we kept it just because we got it basically for free. Mikrotik all the way if you're on a budget (for routers, not for switches).

help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006893234-UniFi-USG-UDM-Configuring-Internet-Security-Settings#3 based on this, looks like they show 1Gbps because your USG Pro or USG-XG was your initial router (you restored the Unifi setup from backup into a new router, remember?). Your DM Pro still has 3.5Gbps of bandwidth with Threat Management

Hi is anybody using the swann cameras with unifi protect is it compatible? ive got the NVR-8580 with the 4k SWNHD-885MSFB camaras ive had no problems with this fingers crossed but ive just found unifi thanks to NetworkChuck, big thankyou for the awesome enlightenment Chuck wow cant wait to get my hands on a udm pro
