I'd love to get a side game in the Gears universe where you play as an Onyx Guard during the Locust war. Despite being the elite soldiers in the COG, they're always getting killed way too much in the series. I'd like to play as a squad of Onyx Guards, saving civilians and other COG soldiers from Locust attacks, protecting high value people during an attack and showing the enemy why the black armored soldiers are to be feared
Idk, I dont think the onyx guards would be the ones saving civilians. They'd probably be protecting government officials. Its would have to be a story around something like that.
@@isaacwoody9247 Onyx Guards saw front line combat in the beginning of the war. It was towards the end of the war when they were few in numbers that they started only protecting surviving politicians. We could get early war Onyx missions or they could just create an Onyx guard squad and say "These guys were doing missions too, play as them"
You see the onyx guard get killed and not doing anything noteworthy in the story because that's how the developers wanted it. Just like Prescott they are on your side technically but they aren't really "good guys" like most higher ups in the cog. Even the coalition carried over epics perception of the onyx guards into gears 4 and 5 so I don't really see it changing.
Idk how they did it but I always liked how the helmets that all 3 carmine brothers wear kinda reflect the brother himself. So Ben's helmet always seemed like a wide eye Child to me which reflects him being the youngest, Claytons seems like the oldest and kinda looks like it has a "beard" and just looks the more mature of them all and finally Anthony hits the middle ground but it has a very rank and file feel to it which suits him perfectly since Anthony represents the "by the books faceless grunt" stereotype. Also you can actually see Marcus and Dom wearing their helmets in gears 2 in the chairman Prescott speech cutscene
@@TheZamaron here's a video that shows it better, well the only video that points this out anyway. Skip to 1:24 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EC6RwOPY6wU.html
@@BanishedSilentShadow3318 Thanks man, that's a pretty cool detail I never noticed. I guess that was before they loaded onto the Ravens, and they must have put some helmets on while marching in the large group for formality, then once everyone got to their Ravens they took the helmets off. Pretty cool.
I don't know how you did it Abz, but because of your video on emergence day being on my recommended I've been on my GOW craze again for the past 2 weeks. So I just want to say thanks for making these, I haven't felt this much love towards GOW in quite a while
@@alio6051 my first GOW game was GOW 2 and I played it like 9 years ago with my friend on his Xbox and we would regularly do so after school. About 2 years ago I went through a GOW craze where I would watch a ton of lore videos. I go through stuff like this with fallout, far cry, star wars and saints row too.
COG armor was always one of my favorites. Always wished they made a rts, like Halo wars, set in the gears of wars universe. That way we could see armies of those cool looking soldiers bashing it out with the Locust. Guess Gears Tactics will have to do, until then.
I believe when the next gears of war game comes out, your channel will grow. Your channel is like the Gears of War version of HiddenXperia who does Halo lore stuff so amazing stuff
Hope we get to see more of these armor variants in the campaign for GOW 2 ultimate or the Fenix collection. It really adds to the world building and ranks in the COG. Like if we could see the gears 2 version of Clayton and sam in the background of a cutscene of operation hollow storm.
There was this gear that had on different armor and a unique helmet compared to all the others around him in the beginning of Gears 2 during Prescott's speech
I hope so too. But it does make sense, considering all that is left of them (as far as we know) is a bunch of nomads quietly wandering the lands. Their government and army fell very quickly after emergence day due to their loss in the Pendulum Wars.
@@NCR_Trooper_ wish they could do a bo2 type story like few missions in present and some in the pendulum wars i mean some flashbacks in gears five or 4 would of been a cool thing to add like in the gears 4 prolouge
@@PranxisDrunk No way. We need a full on Pendulum Wars game and not a flashback type of mission. The Pendulum Wars are rich in lore so it would be injustice to give that setting a full game treatment.
They were referenced and you saw some fighting during the siege of azura when baird and Cole came with reinforcements but not much besides talking about the pendulum wars
I haven't played a Gears game since GoW2, and I switched from Xbox to Playstation in 2014. And yet, thanks to this channel, I've become obsessed with Gears lore. So crazy 🤣🤣 Thanks for the videos!
Love the video, really wish we had more customization to the actual trooper armor like the white version in the gears 2 first mission, or even ability to have the NCOG helmet with the trooper armor but oh well.
I really wish one day that we'll get a gears of war in the style of star wars battlefront. It'll probably never happen because of how little the games change between installments, but hey a guy can dream.
With all the unique enemies and allies throughout the whole series, having them come all together in one game would be great. I would love to see many weapons come back including enemies.
I thought would mention the different helmet variants as theres 3 types for standard cog gears , anthonys variant, Benjamins variant and gyules variant then gears 3 versions, claytons etc
NCOG are my favorite. Silver and blue with a sleek design is just perfect. I wish we got to actually see them in action. It would make for a badass scene if Gears were pinned down and Marines came in to support and drive the enemy back.
The best regular human soldier looking armor out of most Sci-Fi games. I really like the Onyx Guard armor for its darker look. Halo ODST armor is an immediate second in cool looks. (Not talking about super humans like Astartes or Master Chief.)
My question is where does Alicia's armor fall in? Cause it's white like the Medic but its the only one with sleek sleeves similiar to the Onyx Cadet armor.
its kinda weird that in gears 1 locust wearing helmets can survive a longshot hit to the head, but breaks the helmet. needing another. but their helmet is literally just leather and stuff. while cog helmets are metal and very thick. but cant even stop a single longshot round.
I think the onyx guard use special onyx variants of the standard COG weapons. In GoW3 Beast mode their ammo would have a blue trail, it always intrigued me. Hope im right
For a game mostly about fighting through the collapsing remnants of civilization, then rebuilding it. GOW has a lot of nice little details sown throughout it
I know the joke of the helmet limits the view from snipers but that moment when Anothony got domed no one in delta. Hell Dom could have been the one that got killed if the sniper was a little faster in set up.
I've always been curious why so many of the characters have ever so slightly different armour designs amongst eachother, even when side by side in the same game. Sure, they all have the circular components on the front but all of the small aspects of them are almost always different for each character.
Marcus' armor has a codpiece that hangs down from his belt, similar to real US Army IOTV, though you don't see it on other gears. Could drop a plate from the back of the belt for the ass, but it's unnecessary and would just be an irritation, 99% of dudes would ditch it since it makes mechanized ops even more of a PITA, literally. Hard to implement armor for the upper legs without prohibitively impeding mobility, and exponentially increasing fatigue, it'd be 6 to 8 pounds per leg, maybe more. They could be connected to the belt to distribute the weight a bit, but it'd still be really damn heavy, and fucking miserable to wear, legs clacking and your nuts taking the impact with every step.
I really wish the COG Medic was a playable character. I also wonder why you never see COG Officers? (I'll bet their armor would be Gorgeous, I'll bet it'd be light blue, have gold inlay with dark blue highlights in it)
One thing I like about gears of war is that although the gears we play as are super soldiers, they are still grounded, they have to use cover just like any normal trooper, don’t get me wrong, super soldiers being absolute indestructible powerhouses is awesome but gears of war does give an interesting change of pace
I always thought that in gears 3 they all had sleeveless armour to cut down on material used as resources are even more scarce after the sinking of Jacinto
I wonder if there was ever an in game explanation to how guns stick to the back of their armor? From a developer stand point it's obvious. I would have liked them to go into detail about that part of the armor. I was thinking magnets or something.
What game was that from where you played as a medic and were going to pickup another Gear?? I thought I’d played all of Gears? But I don’t recall that part.
so the G3 armor is strictly related to the weather? i thought it was just designed that way in response to the new nature of the COG! in essence: survivor armor. with the COG existing in name only (survivors and Gears who fly it's banner), the remaining soldiers participating in the Lambent pandemic would abandon all "non-essential" gear or attire since it can't be kept up to snuff as easily. hence why the soldiers just look like they are in their most basic equipment and armor. no more undersuit, just whatever you can wear in addition to your armor. that idea helped sell to me the desperation in gears 3, that they can't even maintain a proper uniform for every soldier.
Pains me to remember how GoW used to be a really popular series. The first couple games were a big deal. It was a selling point for the Xbox 360. Not nearly as big as Halo of course but it had its niche and kicked ass at it. Now it's been sidelined as a game series thanks to a swap of developers after the original trilogy, sound familiar?
