Comparison of planet and star sizes.
*MORE INFO BELOW*
Biggest Stars: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_...
All planets and stars are scaled correctly.
Contains all of the planets in our solar system (and Pluto), our sun, Vega (a star), and VV Cephi A (an enormous star, estimated to be the 3rd largest).
Order of Planets and Stars:
Pluto, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Earth, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, The Sun, Vega, VV Cephei A
Also, at the end of the video, Vega is actually visible as a very small blue dot in the center of the screen.
*Note: Planet rings are not to scale, they are simply aesthetic.
Song is "Fury Unleashed" by Immediate Music
This video was created entirely by me with blender V2.49 and V2.56Beta.
Creation/Development Time: 20 Hours
Render Time: 16 Hours

Yeah, I skipped some steps there for the effect ;) And I never realized the pairs of some planets (like Neptune and Uranus) being so close in size until I made this video. Its quite interesting. My favorite astronomical coincidence in my opinion is how the moon is the same proportionate distance between the earth and sun as to its size, to make perfect eclipses :)

This one is of the best stars / earth scaling videos on youtube. I love this sort of stuff anyway but due to the massive sizes of these the biggest known stars it's difficult to comprehend. Most videos don't do it justice, but this one does a good job of it. Nice work.

Trust me, its just that big. It was actually incredibly difficult working with such a large object, the renderer has graphical glitches at such a large scale, and I couldn't scale down the entire scene anymore because the camera movements on the little planets would start getting choppy due to floating point number rounding. - The creator

What's more interesting to note is that the spaces between things are vastly, vastly bigger than these objects. Even a scale model of the solar system is difficult to make because if you have the right scale for distances, all the planets become too tiny. And the same thing goes for the solar system-to-galaxy scale. Look up Sweden's scale model of the solar system.

Awesome video. I'm glad you've kept it local! I've kept an eye out for something like this for a while and this is the best. In the spirit of "it doesn't hurt to ask" is there any chance of adding in 1. Alpha, 2. Beta Centauri and perhaps 3. our moon (which I think is bigger than pluto) and 4. any moon in our solar system that is bigger than our moon. Great work!

Basically, I allowed the video to be used as a clip or example in other videos, which can then be attributed back to my original video. The "Source videos: None" shows that this video doesn't attribute anything, for it is the original, and the "View attributions" shows the videos that used my video (for whatever reason, I never actually watched the videos that attributed mine)

Luke Miller They think they have an idea of how things work. I don't think you know what the definition of theory is. Its basically the best guess as to how things are. There are multiple theories for sun and galaxy formation, none of which are proven to be true. They are all basically "educated guesses". Its not really crazy or amusing (as you think it is) to ponder the creation of something we see in the sky every night.
@bricktop37
@bricktop37 9 лет назад
Love the ignorance, Luke. You will be telling us that an invisible entity that lives in the sky did it, next.

"I love how they have theories on how suns and galaxies are formed lol" I love how some kids have theories on how researchers may be dumb lol "Its funny because there millions of light years away and they think they know how everything works that far away" We can't see an atom. They belong to a world several orders of magnitude far from us (kinda like distant galaxies). Yet, we understand them well enough to get your computer working, so you can play BF3. But, yeah, scientists are so retarded.

That's the beauty of science. You can look up at planets, stars, and galaxies and feel so tiny, and then look down at bacteria, atoms, and the quantum foam, and feel so gigantic. You can look at a timelapse of growing trees and the orbiting worlds, never having appreciated the passage of long time, and then see the flight patterns of gnats, and the oscillations of atoms, never having appreciated short time. You can see a whole world of movement that you've never perceived, seeing it as static.

It is actually not the biggest star ever discovered. That would be NML Cygni. Also, VY Canis Majoris had a huge error in measurement that made it so popular but was actually scaled down. Its size was in debate when I created this video, thus I left it out. Didn't "miss" anything.

Well, the simple reason is the distance between us and that star is several thousand times LARGER than the actual SIZE of said star. Its sort of like trying to see the [large] Empire state building from Egypt with our naked eye [assuming the earth is flat].
