You outdo yourself every time! This video was stunning, and you’re a wonderful storyteller. So much love and commitment go into these videos, this channel should be viral
Him being so small says a lot to be honest. This channel talks about subjects that would be very confronting for many people I think. People are becoming braindead these days, and it’s not their fault.
You obviously point out the sagas are hard to believe, but one of my favorite translations states that when he fought with Lagertha he "thought she was pretty and wished he could marry her" but never talked to her. He later married Aslaug who gave him his sons. This is different from translation to translation but I love the idea that this famous warlord had a crush he was to nervous to talk to 😂
Just a few corrections. "Ayla" or Ælla was king of Northumberland, not England, a small kingdom in the north of the modern kingdom. He was also most likely NOT executed via blood eagle, but killed in the Battle of York in 867, at the hands of Ragnar's son's army. This is stated in the Anglo-Saxon accounts of the war, and modern historians no longer believe the blood eagle was even a real execution method, rather being the result of Scandinavian poets misunderstanding historical depictions of men lying dead on the battlefield (with their backs torn open by carrion birds) as the aforementioned mythical execution method.
@@Starr_Apathy Except for the fact that I never claimed he didn't point out the fact that this is sourced from sagas. Instead, I pointed out that despite acknowledging this, he both directly got the kingdom ruled by Ælla wrong, and stated his fate by blood eagle without mentioning either specific context, or the fact that even within the context of using sagas as sources, the blood eagle is most likely not true. Acknowledging the sagas' possible unreliability doesn't garner much when he literally cites the most sensationalist, and incorrect, interpretations of those sagas to present in his video, effectively as fact until the very last few minutes of the video. Both decisions being clearly intentional efforts to further the clickability of the video (including using the false claim of Ælla being the king of England in the title).
Egil Skallagrimson was the Unkillable viking. He never lost a duel, never lost in battle, was never cut by a blade. He was a poet, father, murderer, and a defender. He was a hero. He was Egil son of Grim.
@@Heizenberg32 skallagrim was more of a nickname. Grim was the name. But his father was bald. So the name Skallagrim stuck. The Hema instructor used the name as a tribute to one of the most epic warriors of Iceland. I love HEMA. I have a friend that participated in some events. I would have loved to have gotten into it.
These are the sorts of videos I want to make, gritty, realist, vintage style documentaries. I applaud the effort you go to with these videos and the style is phenomenal.
This is cool animation but a "gritty" documentary is like, going somewhere dangerous and talking to weird people about a controversial related subject.
In a few years, AI channels will be pumping out this kind of content. Not just script, voice over, music, and images all created by AI, but the entire channel and even video IDEAS. Where it took this guy a few weeks to put this together, these ai channels will pump out as many 20 minute long videos as they want in a single day. Will they be quality? Maybe, who knows. There's a clear formula to this type of content. If you thought RU-vid was over saturated now, just wait... @@rawavocadomeat3129
When you have art that looks good. Proliferated in quantities that would taken individual quite a while to produce, AI. Seems like it's everywhere in the content world at this point. What irks me is videos like this who's entire visual style is built on AI art. The only thing here with any character or skill is the narration. Even the scripting could have been aided by AI. At least once were a couple of iterations down the road with chat. GPT it certainly can be I'm sure. Personally, this trend makes me want to be on RU-vid less, consume less online content, and read more books. A market that hasn't been saturated by AI. Yet.
@@lawsonsantoro5361 I’m sure there r more but Vinland saga is a close bet. It’s a more modern anime so has less of the nostalgic look like in these pics but the style tbh kind of suits the the appearance of the old Euro world.
@@kimjongil4real The bible dont kill, christians gave everyone the chance of become christian or dying, the vikings choose to become christians on their own
Warrior cultures absolutely wrecked everybody at the time. The Vikings, Mongols, Vandals, Goths, Hunns, Parthians, Spartans etc Proud to be descended at least partially from these guys
@@myalt3019 what? The vikings only wrecked other pagans / "warrior cultures". they managed to lose almost every single Battle they did in continental Europe. The vikings literally ended because hundred town militia became as strong as a thousand vikings raiders so they couldnt raid anymore and needed to settled down
@@ayushgurung3876 Nah, almost all of the hands, and some other features like misaligned weapons and the, imo, mechanical looking soldiers are just AI trying to interpret this history
The last words you said about the show being a modern saga made me think a lot. Even though I dislike the series, it sunk on me why it got so popular; indeed people seem to keep enjoying the stories and tales that have been with us for centuries. Anyways, great video and great work. Keep it up!
Now I want to re-watch Vikings again - don´t know, how often I watched the show already, still love it. And yes, I know, that it is mainly fictional, that a lot of characters were mixed up, thought they lived in different times, and that some characters didn´t exist at all, also not in the sagas. You have a great way of telling stories and a fitting voice. Well done
this was an absolutely beautiful video man, please don’t stop and keep going. your page is top tier content. also, idk if it was but this all reminds me of Vinland saga so much but i haven’t read it in forever.
Another masterwork. Thank you. A suggestion for a vid: Brian Boru was a great king and hero, but ironically would not have freed Ireland from the vikings without half of those same vikings pledging their swords to him, largely because they had married Celtic women.
Yo, why haven't you become big? I love content like this and whenever I see a youtuber like you pop up they usually get huge real quick. Keep up the work, your editing really sets you apart by the way, it's very interesting to watch.
Just stumbled upon your channel a few days ago, and I can't believe I haven't found it earlier. You're a great storyteller, and the videos are very interesting and extremely well-made. Keep up the good work :)
I gave a thumbs up before the first sentence was spoke. I watch another video and was so impressed, I just knew I would like this one. I really like the channel.
The format reminds me a bit of Wes Anderson movies with the still titles in between and pleasant narration. Such a breath of fresh air compared to some of the aggravatingly loud and busy youtubers out there. Subbed !
Beautiful. I absolutely love this style of historical, mini documentaries, with a whiff of animation/anime. Please continue your RU-vid channel and creative endeavors. 🫡
how did i not find this channel earlier , jeez i cant stop watching your content , started with the prince by machiavelli and now im sucked into ur channel hard , very interesting stuff here
Do one on Rollo The Walker, a viking so great horses could not carry him, according to legend. So he would walk to battle. My family name Gammage(Gammache France)comes from his grandson William the Conqueror, who took my Norman ancestors from Normandy and invaded England, killing the king and taking over the whole of the country in the battle of Hastings in 1066. Rollo's viking blood literally took over England and the royal bloodline is directly linked to him. Pretty interesting history. Some say he's from Iceland, some say Norway, but I got my dna tested and it said we come from Norway, and nobody in my family is from Norway
New Subscriber, and I have to say, one of my favorite YT channels of all time. You tell stories brilliantly as well as choose interesting ones to share. Also the typography and art styles are always superb. Love these man, please share more!
I am genuinely in awe of this channel! First, the stories, all of them are extremely interesting. Second, the narration, the narration is exceptional, your voice is very calm, soothing, but not sing me a lullaby kind of soothing, but just the right amount to keep you engaged. Thirdly, the artwork presented here is top notch, I'm an artist myself, and these images are making me anxious because of their exceptional quality. All in all, just keep up the good work!
"Pants with magic fabric that makes me unkillable in battle" is a very fancy, too wordy way to say "lucky pants". The dude had a pair of "lucky pants". Or, he was justifying why he had a pair of comfy pants he liked at all times. Perhaps he was the greatest [known] autistic warrior of all time, who didn't like the sensation of other fabrics?
bro, your channel is so good, I can't believe this video has only 4k views, you deserve so much more that that! I will share your channel with some friends, I hope to bring you more viewers :) btw, I love the drawings in your videos, are those yours?
I’m really glad I’ve found your channel lately. You’re a great story teller. May I ask where you get your images? They’re always so on point with the story you’re telling. Are they AI generated?
Viking means 6 kings, VI Kings. Vikings came from the tribe of Dan. One of the 12 tribes of Isreal, the only tribe that had sea faring and ship building skills. So if you were Viking you were from the land ruled over by one of the six kings of the tribe of Dan. Idk If any of that is true but the documentary I watched was very convincing.
@@hristoiliev8542 believe it or not I know this, and I think this is a great use for it, smaller creators don't have a huge budget for production and decent AI art is good visual filler for this kind of content
Great video - well written and paced I very much liked the ending; I would argue it was exactly when the producers of Vikings leaned into the saga like nature of the stories that they reached their peak - for example, at the endings of Ragner himself, Björn and Lagertha (the latter a masterclass in a story arc), as well as the fever dream of Floki in Iceland. But in the final moments, the series strips it all back to the simple basis for all myths - humans living a life, and having a the rare luxury to reflect upon it outside mead hall or battle... Incidentally, in the blood eagle, the ribs were not so much ripped out, as cut from the spine - causing the 'wings' of the eagle as they were pulled outwards. Vile, and possibly apocryphal only, torturous death.
Re: The death of Charlemagne. Of course, you thought you were saying that he died in 814, but it comes out in audio & CC as 1814. There was different Empereur tearing up Europe at that time . . .
Seeing this video then seeing the view count actually hurts. RU-vid is supposed to be a place where the good stuff rises to the top but this video is proof it’s not a flawless process & the algorithm can get it wrong sometimes! I do feel like eventually this will blow up tho! Sometimes you just wake up one day and see you have been blessed by the YT gods and have tonnes of views lol. Fingers crossed for you. So beautifully made!
@@CryptoTonight9393 dont be a smart ass i hate fucking Ai and complimented him anyway and its not the same humans and a bit of chemistry make photos AI is not art because it steals its line work from other artists it has no ideas of its own at all some may say well its just a tool.. but no its poison it should be recognized as such if you have a desire to make art you should learn to paint, draw, film or whatever else you want dont let AI just do it for you ! the discipline that it takes you to master your craft is good for the soul of the artiest and allows them to learn much of the HUMAN experience there is a reason the best scientists in history were all artists of one kind or another its good for the mind to draw to really draw something you have to know how it works how it moves how light falls upon how you see it and most importantly what you feel and think about it ! I like that comment, that the recent Vikings show is like a modern telling of the saga. I mean, it literally is but it's still not thought of that openly.
These are amazing pieces of work. Glad you're starting to rocket, your numbers are insane 14k since I watched you yesterday! Totally deserved, you have such a skill for this.
You have several historical inaccuracies in this video. "English Empire" was not a thing. England at the time was made up of several petty Anglo-Saxon (NOT "English") kingdoms, controlling multiple fragmented parts of the island. You also may have pointed out Paris as the 'capitol' of the Carolingian (Frankish) Empire, which is not true.
