That Nugget is a character! What if you put a piece of smaller mesh, only in front of the water spigot by his? Just wide enough so he couldn't poke his head through to grab the bracelet. He is so sweet and funny! ❤ love to watch y'all every day!
I agree this is a great idea. Just a small area by the spigot with small mesh hardware cloth should keep Nugget away, maybe 3x5 would probably work. Hugs from N.C..❤️
Love the bracelet idea on the faucets!! Turn a bucket upside down over the faucet. This will hide the bracelet. 😊. He is used to seeing buckets. I have those SQUIRREL tendencies like Jason 😂😂. So glad Biscuit is on the mend!!🥰. You all look after your animals so well!❤️❤️
Brooke you should look for nugget a busy board for toddlers. Everything is designed so theirs no swallow hazard and it will be so funny watching him mess with it. Lol
Excellent idea for Nugget to have a play station!!! He is so funny and a joy to us all and would be funny for all to watch on video! Great idea with the bracelets at the water spigots too! I have a problem remembering to cut my outside watering off or also to remember to move the hose every now and then for gentle soaking. That’s going to help me out SO much! I am an avid gardener and I am 82 Years old and my “forgettery” is overwhelmed!! 😂😂😂
Now if Jason comes inside with an arm full of jelly bracelets you’ll know it’s more serious than just shutting off the water, dementia must be setting in! Good luck sister!!😂
It will work for a little while because it's new but after it's there for a while you'll just turn the water on and forget to grab the hair tie. Then you'll forget to put it back on the faucets and lose them. We humans all do it. Put a note by the light switch to turn it off. My personal fault and after a while the note just becomes wall art.🤔😉👍
Can you put a bit wire panelling with a smaller gauge (similar to chicken wire) just between Nugget and that water faucet? Even if it’s a temporary measure until you can think of a better solution ?
Hope Biscuits feels better! She is lucky she has such a caring and responsible mom! Putting mesh on the fence so Nugget can't get at! I remember Jason saying that on your last live about the bracelets, it's a very ingenious idea! Some sunflowers are perennials so if you let the seeds fall off you will have them for next year! God Bless You and your family 🙏🙏
Seeds means annual. Perennial means the roots resprout next spring. But maybe you are right about some of them. I think Maximilian Sunflowers are perennials! The other kinds are annuals.
Brooke if putting one of those jelly bracelets in a color that is close to the color of the faucet won't work. Try attaching signs or paneling to the section of fence behind the faucet so Nugget can't peck through at the faucet.
As for marking nuggets, waterfaucet put a bucket on the ground beside it upside down when it's off and right side up when it's on. Hope this helps you, Brooke 😊👍- Catherine from Charleston, West Virginia
Brooke, what about a section of chicken wire on the fence in the area of the faucet so Nugget can’t stick his head through to grab the bracelet. I hope the bracelet reminders work. They seem like a good idea.
I'd change some of those darker, black bracelets to brighter colors, a few blend right in with the spigots...yes that's a universal term...and you might not see them and forget to put them on! Maybe put Nuggets on the gate lock or gate post? So glad little Biscuit is doing better!
Y’all can simply turn a bucket over top of the facet by Nuggets pasture, and that will keep him from playing with the bracelet I suggest a dark colored bucket so it doesn’t tempt him to peck at it, you’ll just have to remember to put the bucket back over the faucet when you put the bracelet back on it 🤣🤣! Brooke you should go back and buy replacements for those bracelets because in time the place where the bracelet is glued will degrade and break and you’ll need a replacement and if your luck is like mine you won’t be able to find those bracelets when you need them! I’m glad Biscuit is not to suck but respiratory illnesses can become very bad quickly so I’m glad you caught it quick!! Such sweet kittens and I’m glad they will have each other when they are old enough to go to the barn to live , y’all might want to put them in carriers and start taking them down to the barn when your down there working so they start getting use to it a few weeks before you put them down there , and it will also help that they will have their cat tower and other play items to help them know that it’s their new home when they go to live in the barn , and they will love exploring and playing in the barn and wondering around the farm !! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
Morning 🌞 well the idea of the bracelets on the faucet is a good one !! To keep Nugget from getting the bracelet place a piece of plywood ( just a strip wide enough ) between the fence and the faucet ( spigot) The kittens are growing 💗 And looking so good 😊
A small board running up and down could be attached to the T-Post with zip ties and just hang a hook to the wood. The board just has to be wide enough so Nugget can't see behind the board. Something about the size of a round aluminum pie pan would work to. Anything to hide the bracelet and he can't reach around it.
Kitten neuters are nothing. I used to be a vet tech. Very easy in them especially young. So happy Brooke is so diligent taking such good care of all the babies. Prayers little Biscuit gets better asap!
I agree. I was in the veterinary field for quite a while too. We had all the kittens spayed or neutered before we adooted them out. That way it's 100% sure that there won't be any unplanned kitty pregnancies with anyone who went through us for adoption. They heal so much faster as babies, too. I have had all of my own kitties spayed or neutered as babies, too. And I haven't had a single problem ever related to spaying or neutering my kittens young. I hope this continues to spread as the normal thing to do.
Idea for the Nugget area....put a binder clip (like the kind that holds papers together, just google binder clip) maybe on the zip tie, so Nugget can't see it. Then J and M can just attach the clip to their shirts when they turn the water on. I use them for everything, from chip bags to feed bags. Hope this helps.
Your animals are some of the luckiest animals on the planet! That bracelet idea is a great way for me to remember to take my pills in the morning. Just because they are in a day-of-the-week pill box doesn't mean I remember to take them LOL Thanks for the idea!
Use the black or dark green the same color as the faucet and see if that works, or put a piece of tin or boards that shield it from his view. Glad Miss Bisquite is doing better. Your kittens are beautiful and so lucky to be on your farm.
That's a GENIUS idea Brooke. Kudos to whomever came up with it. What if you put a hook on the side of that gray box that faces away from Nugget? You could hang the bracelet/reminder on there. Thanks for sharing! 💜🐾🐾💜
Prayers that Biscuit is blessed with a quick recovery with no long term issues plus the boys don’t have any issues fending any infection off. Like the bracelet hack❣️For nugget’s faucet, wire up a piece of chicken wire on the field fence big enough he can’t get to the spigot. He won’t be needing to turn the water on/off himself so he doesn’t need access to the handle....
I sincerely hope this weather gets better. It’s rough to be outside in it. Your boys have shade, cool beds & a fan! So nice! I hope Miss Biscuit gets feeling better & that the boys don’t catch it. TYTY for sharing! ❤️❤️🙏❤️❤️
Brooke and Jason, you probably won't ever see this, but here goes. If there is any hard wear cloth wire left, enough could be attached to the chicken to keep the emu from being able to reach that braclet. Worth a try
Does Nugget go after all “novelties” he spots, or just the bright sparkly. If is just the bright sparkly, then maybe put the black one there-preferably when he’s not looking!
This TIP is GREAT! Thank you, to whoever came up with it. LOOP A WIRE at the BOTTOM of Nugget's water pipe (where he can't reach) and hang the JELLY BAND on it.🧡
For the water spicket near Nugget, place a T-post about a foot or two away from the water spicket, or far enough away so Nugget can’t reach it, and place one of the bright colored ones on it so that it’s noticeable when someone turns the water on. 🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
Nugget sure does love the shiny things! I sure hope it works! Remembering to turn off the water is important, especially if you are paying for it! 💖💖💖 Praying for Biscuit, hope she is doing better and back to being healthy!🙏🙏🙏
Good catch Brooke! Smell is a great warning sign to let us know something is wrong with anyone or animal. I must say Brooke that those kittens are adorable!!! For the faucet near Nugget use just a black ponytail tie. The color, I believe, is what he’s attracted to. So those black elastic ponytail bands should work. I’ll put one on my wrist when I wear my hair down, so when it gets hot I take that ponytail band from my wrist and pull my hair back and use it for my hair. I’m waiting for y’all to use that post hole equipment and see if it will work for those posts. I must say too, I really love getting a video from y’all everyday!!! Much love and blessings to you Brooke, Jason and MaryCarl and of course all the animals too…..
I think I would get Jason to keep the Sheriff's attention and put that darkest colored bracelet on. That bright grey color really caught his eye, especially since he was watching you. You could also put a small piece of plywood between the fence and silver box. Just make it big enough that he can't get over or around it.
Now all Jason needs to do is remember to take the jelly band off of the faucet when he turns it on!🤷♀️🤷♀️🤣 Good luck with all the things that you have to remember on your farm. And hope Biscuit is fully recovered and the other 2 kitties are well!🤗💖
Great idea for remembering to turn the water off. We also call it a spigot in the North. Another thing you can look into if it continues to be a problem is an automatic turn-off float. They come in many styles and prices. They come in handy for keeping the live stock tanks filled throughout the day. You just keep the hose attached. I'm sure glad Biscuit is on the mend. Her brothers sure didn't like that she was leaving to go to the vets office. ❤
My idea on hiding the spiral from nugget is,,on that white box below the spigot put a hook to hang the spiral on then nugget won't see it but it will b close enough to use it 🤞I'm hoping biscuit feels better very very soon. She is a cute & sweet little kitten 😸 ❤😊
The boys wanted to know where there baby sister is going. There pretty protective over her. There just so cute! Also I’m in IL and was raised with our farm animals, and We always called it a water Spicket. ❤️ 🐾🐾🐾
Brooke, you take such good care of your kitties and all your animals. I hope Biscuit is feeling really good soon. I like the bucket idea for that faucet near Nugget you could try it and see if it would work if not try other things to cover the bracelet up. Also if there is a way to put a bell on those bracelets then maybe the ringing would make Jason or anyone using the water remember because every step would ring the bell as you are wearing it Of course maybe not with the one Nugget could get to he might have a field day ringing the bell
Biscuit is looking so much better, she is adorable I saw that video where Jason was talking about the bracelets, I think its a great idea. If it works I'm going to tell LHL and ISS abo. Nugget isn't going to let you put that on his, not for sure how to do it.
For the spigot next to Nugget, you can use a carabiner to put through the hole for a lock to let you know the water ihas been turned off. Or it can be looped on a belt loop or a button hole while the water is turned on.
Can you just hang a sign or piece of plywood on the outside of the fence to prevent Nugget from reaching through. Or zip tie some metal fencing with smaller holes. The wood might prevent him from seeing it and being a temptation! Glad Biscuit is on the mend. ❤️
They make timers for the spigot. I use it when filling horse troughs and adding water to our pool because I've forgotten to shut off the water. Works great! Turns the water off for you.
You guys are crawling with critters! Bless your hearts for giving these precious babies a home. Your barn will be safe from mice and snakes in return. 😍
The bracelets are a good idea. You might want to put a small tag hanging on the jelly bracelets saying which spigot the bracelet is from so you don’t have to search to see which one you forgot to turn off. Nugget’s spigot requires a bucket over the spigot lol. He is just so inquisitive. But not sure he can steal a bucket.
Oh Nugget, he loves all things shiny & sparkly🤣 What about attaching a solid square piece of something (like a shield) to either the spigot or on a short T post between the fence & spigot so he can’t even see it? Temporarily you could just place an empty bucket over the whole spigot, until you sort it out. Hope Biscuit is doing well❤️ Take care & cheers🥰
Poor little Miss Biscuit! She has had a rough start. Hoping she comes out of this much stronger with a better immune system. Watch the boys like a hawk!
Love how Nugget had his beak wide open and his eyes stuck on you and the shiny pretty bracelets in your hand. He may have been sizing up you earrings too! 😂
Can you wrap that jelly spiral twice or three times around the end of the hose? That should be out of Nugget’s reach, yet very noticeable. Glad you got the kitten’s respiratory infection! Good call!
I’m glad your little Biscuit will be OK! She’s a sweet little thing! It’ll take a little training to remember to take the bracelet, but I think it’ll work!
Great idea! Brooke, you might want to replace those black or dark bracelets with the lighter colors to make them more viable. It's probably just the camera making it darker to us. Biscuit is so precious! I have 3 rescue kitties ( and a dog,Reba) but she makes me want another one! Love from Tennessee!!!❤😁
Nugget is so cool, he is trying to help. He is saying, turn off the water 💧 lol. Maybe a rope, something not shiny, or block that area so nugget can't put his head through silly bird. Glad biscuit is on the mend. Thanks Brooke 😊
💡! Leave your fanny-pack over the opened handle when you turn the water on. You'll remember to collect it to get your earrings back on when you leave the the Sheriff's Office. *OR* put the bracelet on same as the others but up-end a 5-gallon bucket over the faucet. Then Nugget can't see it to mess with it. Bur a _second_ idea would be to put a thumb-valve on that particular hose to at least turn it off at the end of the hose so you don't waste as much water. [I once turned the water on to fill the trough before i left town. My helper didn't realize it was on -- all he did was check that the trough was full & he could see the level, so didn't worry with it. When i got Home _four days later,_ went to feed supper, noticed it was on, figured he'd forgotten to turn it off the night before. I mentioned it to him in passing -- that's when he told me it hadn't been him & he explained his truck key trick. So it'd been on full throtyle for four days... Had a nice little "creek" running through the paddock...! ]
Don't know why I had a feeling Nugget was going to want his own jelly bracelet. 🤣 I like the idea of blocking the sheriff's ability to peck at the bracelet, either with a sign or something. I don't know if you could find some small netting, he couldn't get through, so something solid and without sharp ends (like wire would have) so he can't hurt himself. I'm glad Biscuit was already feeling better and am praying neither of the boys gets sick. It is so much fun seeing them all playing together.
A spigot (not spicket) is a faucet (usually mounted on the exterior of a building). It is also called a hose bib. What you are referring to is called a stop-waste (because it shuts the water off far below the ground level and then drains the upper portion of the device, thus preventing it from freezing when temperatures drop).
