One thing you can do to level up lower tier troops is to battle against a low number of bandits. Then during the battle, separate your infantry into two separate groups, then make one have more lower tier and the other higher tier. I have done this and it makes it much easier.

I normally level my low lever troops against bandits and with the 2 skills you got where you can give you troops the weapons and armor from battles, since bandits don't have gear that sells for much anyway, I donate that stuff to my troops until I have an entire elite force. Once you've done this even a smaller army can make a pretty big difference in a fight if you use intelligent tactics. Which means I don't typically join an army but I run to help armies once their already in a fight, this builds a ton of relationship with all the lords in the army that you've rode in to Dave and gives you control over all your own troops instead of letting the idiotic AI control your high level elite force.

Loving the playthrough. If you use the plus sign in a city to leave your companion there and then recall them back to your party then I think you can assign them a party role.

The casualties number is the total number of killed and wounded the faction has inflicted over the course of the entire war. I am not sure but that number may also count non lord prisoners.

The Iron Islands are insane at the moment, I know they kept the North busy in the Westerlands run but for such a small kingdom they have massive armies. I assume since they're all from such a small area all their lords don't have to travel far to recruit from most of their villages after taking heavy losses. Also now that you've got the Perk that gives you extra relationship for clearing hideouts I'd definitely do a bit more of that when you're rebuilding. The Party Roles thing seems to only be bugged in that their Portraits aren't showing up. If you over the area to the right of your portrait when assigning a role it does seem to highlight someone else but they just don't have a visible portrait. If the missing Lord issue needs to be fixed with a hotfix/patch does that mean Roose Bolton, Joffrey and Frey will come back to life if you apply it? Like Jaime did in your other playthrough, although that was a larger update and not a small patch.

Well that goes to show that a core of Ironborn are really not to be looked down upon. They really are the war culture of Westeros. Tbf though a lot of the casualty feed was saying quite low tier northern troops, I think you may have had the best troops out of all the war parties in that battle. And even they got pasted…

To fix the companion bug you have to deposit them in a town, step outside, go back in and take them back to party.

To fix the bug when trying to assign your guys to a role, go into a town, drop the companion off in the town, leave the town, reenter the town, take companion into your party, then it works just fine.

The glitch happens when yiu recall companions, not sure why it occurs but it happens all the time.
