The way the ending struck me, He accepted his guilt and was gonna roll the dice with his fate. He knew he deserved to die, but of course he didn’t want to.. so he drove into a hurricane. He survived, so he vanished and deprived himself of his son, because “Dexter Morgan “ died. That was his price.
I really like your interpretation to be honest and it makes me see the ending in a new light. That said, I think what really soured the ending was the poor writing of the season. If the season had been overall good I'm sure more people would've accepted the ending.
I wonder how deep Dexter is into his new life. Its been more than 15 years (the timeline says so not me) since he left Florida and his Son behind. What if the Identity of Jimmy Lindsay (Dexters new ID) is vetted? Is Dexters true Identity as Dexter Morgan the ultimate downfall for season 9, or is Jimmy Lindsay a completely transcended/cured version of Dexter in the future? We know Dexter “died” after the hurricane, but what if his “death” transcends towards his ability to identify? Is it easier for him to live as Jimmy Lindsay, or harder for him to accept his life as Dexter Morgan, a Father and Serial Killer? Im sure that he must have those thoughts, especially knowing he has a Son. Despite being a product of Rita and Jaimie raising him well, Harrison will always have questions pertaining to the ABSOLUTE identity of Dexter, not just the memories of him in Florida. Exploring Dexters new life will be complex as hell.
Exactly. Also, he is a serial killer death is familiar and fine for him. It’s not as righteous as having him deprived of the only things he’d always stuck onto all along: a sense of righteousness and his internal monologue(a representation of himself). Hence why, once the show finishes, he’s quiet ! Dexter is gone, now only a shell of him left, castaway to roam the world.
@@nicklabickas8814 In my opinion that was the beginning of the show’s downfall. Dexter should have killed Trinity the first time he had the chance to do so. In my opinion, the final downfall of the show was that Dexter didn’t learn from that mistake and made the same mistake again.
I’m currently binge watching this show. Loved it first time & having fun now. Such a great show. Nothing like it on TV. John Lithgow won an Emmy for his role in S04. Can’t wait for next season. Michael C. Hall, a wonderful actor! Dexter’s wit & humour priceless! Love love this series.
Honestly this is what I believe to be the greatest show of all time. Everything about it is just phenomenal. I am rewatching the entire show a second time. The aesthetics in the first few seasons are unmatched. I am so excited for season 9. Brings on a brand new feel and look at Dexter in a different light.
The first two seasons were really good because they excluded what wouldn't work from the books and included things from outside that would work. After the first 2 seasons, Dexter lost heat.
I always liked that in the books the Dark Passenger was an actual demonic entity that would rustle about and unfurl its wings inside Dexter’s brain whenever it saw something suspicious.
I know I'm alone in this... But I liked the ending. There is no resolution to his sickness that prevents him in creating any loving connection that can last. He is stuck in a rinse and repeat with no real cure.
I watched after the series was over and expected disappointment but it was alright. You can't please everyone. It made sense Dexter wouldn't get a happy ending but escape seemed likely since he had every time before with some sort of consequences.
Well, at least most people imo can agree that Dexter's ending was better than HIMYM's ending. I also liked it. I just felt bad for Hannah and Harrison.
@@pilsatortube You would rather him die though? I mean... Either way is sad and I'm just glad Rita isn't around to see either. I really want to believe that Dexter has a happy ending, where Hannah finds him or he reunites with his son or something, but I don't see that happening 😭
@@randomuser8660 its the same showrunner now that wanted him to die on the table at the end of season 8 :( so chances are he is going to do that this time...
The series was AWESOME and ended just fine-- honestly I did not want Dexter to pay for his crimes or die. I would actually love to see a a future series with his son!
Yeah, I think her shooting La Guerta was the downfall of her character and she was never gonna come back mentally. I think if she turned in Dexter in that cart, she never would've died because her character never would've went down that path.
I felt like the ending was a big disappointment plotwise. How on earth can nobody realize that Hannah should disguise herself? How are we expected to believe that they were not smart enough to have Hannah drive to another state and hide out till Dexter was ready? How can we believe that nobody was smart enough to think "Gee, let's get Hannah, Debra and Harrison out of town and safe first, and then let Dexter come back later to kill the Brain Surgeon." ??
I thought he should have been given a happy ending. The last scene should have been him greeting his soon-to-be wife(also a killer) and his son on the lawn of their new house in a nice normal and unsuspecting neighborhood. He picks up his son, kisses his wife, then slowly turns to the camera and grins knowingly to the camera, then fade to black. Bringing Dexter to justice would have been predictable. The ending they gave us was also predictable.
@@kathybrem880 yeah but they couldn’t give a serial killer a happy ending, Wouldnt send a good message to people watching. Even though I agree with you he did take out the trash
@@MrEricG Which is also part of why he works there, if I remember correctly! There is influence of his father, of course, but it’s also because he considers them inefficient, which is good for his side activities.
I don’t want Dexter to die. I think he is misunderstood. He only killed very vile people. I wanted him to make it to South America to be with his son and girlfriend.
Dexter would easily have gotten rid of his 'dark passenger' in the last season's finale, had it not been for the show's producers and screwed up team. Everyone loves a winner, but the shows producers felt that killers can't wrestle with their demons and win their inner battles.
Or maybe he just has an opinion and isn’t obligated to love the series like many of us. Why would he need to be jealous after the success he’s garnered? 😂
I always wondered if Dexter uses the same syringe on every victim. That CAN'T be sanitary. What if they get an infection or something? I mean, he doesn't even clean the area before injecting them
She was brain dead and on life support. The hospital was in chaos due the coming hurricane, and Dexter took from the hospital and then disposed of her body at sea.
Him being on the lethal injection table is one thing, but the witness gallery... they don't make them that big 2 house 168 people that he's killed through his 8 seasons
I remember reading the finale before it was aired, it leaked on the internet. I was like nah, this is clearly a joke, i kept reding for fun because it was so bizarre. Then it aired…. 😐
If i was that person who wrote that review for the book all those years ago i would literally put i was responsible for the tv show dexter on my gravestone.
I’m glad the show took a separate path, even though season 4 and on, it was completely ruined by poor writing and character developments. I continued to watch all the way through, but really hope this reboot can redeem the poor treatment of the series. I say this as someone that also suffered through the entire Dexter novel series… boy, Dex was whiny and unbearable.
It’s a good show originally but the ending was horrible, especially after how good season 7 was. To make the comeback work he’s gonna have to go back to his old ways of being a serial killer and some kind of threat of people figuring out who he actually was in his former life
Yea... I like the ending. you cant kill Dexter. No matter his motivations, and consequences, he became more human by the end. It was his realization that he is venomous to anyone he cares about, was his final noble act. He saw how he got deb killed and did the best thing for his family Let them exist without him. But we knew that wouldnt last with dex because it not his nature. He is a sociopath. Also if you watch the ending now, knowing the sequel is coming, it plays alot better.
I can’t wait till fall! Been waiting for this for a long time. I seen the Showcase teaser trailer and that’s all I need to know till the first episode is released. Hurry up seasons pass!
I saw Michael C. Hall on a talk show near the end of the original series. When asked how he would like "Dexter" to end he said "I think it would be funny if he just stepped off a curb and got hit by a bus". I'm pretty sure Showtime will not let them kill off Dexter this time, either. Two more episodes to go. Episode nine drops in 96 minutes.
Yeah it was an empty feeling after I seen Harrison pull the trigger. I’m really only upset that Bautista got teased and then never showed up. Like why would they think that was a good idea? Lmao
Dexter (2006) and The Perfect Host (2010) are few of the show/movie that depicts/ describes what life is like for a serial killer who is assuming "I'm an innocent bystander" effect. If no one has watched that movie I highly recommend it! You will not like the ending though. It's hilarious!
