Whaaaat!? Ninja Assassin!? dude i thought i was the only one who remembered this movie. People do not show this movie enough love. A badass classic way ahead of its time.
TheRealKjay You ain't lyin. Straight badass flick right here. I've been saying, if Iron Fist looked (physically) and fought more like Rain, it wld've been a MUCH better series. This movie doesn't get enough shine. I'd want a trilogy a-la John Wick. Raizo (Rain) deserves hella props for the work he put in
jay gilles while I don't succumb to the white washing thing, I have to admit that Louis tan would've been a much better iron fist.. the writers could've made him half white..or adopted..
To be fair, almost all ninja films are cult status. People who are really into martial arts flicks know them well, but they don't usually do that well at the box office. I'd love to see some Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden films, but who knows if any studios will ever green light them.
Indeed. If there is a season 2 of Iron Fist, I hope they make ALOT of improvements. Otherwise it'll have been a waste of a good character and season. At least with the Defenders he'll have Luke Cage, DareDevil, and Jessica Jones to carry him.
Especially because Rain had no prior experience to this before doing it and his dedicated and evolution during training was insane. I swear Asians are all certified badasses. This would be like America plucking Usher out of music and starring an action movie where he does his own stunts. It just wouldn't work.
The only thing that I'm disappointed in is the fact that they never did A Part 2 hell, or a part 3 for that matter!!! This action movie got no credit for how great it really was!!
It is a shame but it too late now. Rain passed his prime and probably will never be that fit again. So they either going to have to find a new main character or just do a whole new movie.
Yea man dope movie indeed I remember watching the old ninja movies with my father, and I also see the ninja scroll reference. But that old actor coming back as the bad guy was a cool footnote.
What the hell people are smoking??? It was just bad bad movie.. storyline has no point and horrible acting.. just another gore movie with good special effect. Thats it.
@@ChristopherMorningstar-t5u Shang Chi is right! The iron fist choice is already accurate since he is an American (although I would've preffered an actor who knew at least a bit of martial arts)
Well rain is a professional K-pop star. The Kpop industry is rough and requires months if not years of dance routines. So It's not surprising that rain did his own stunts XD.
A couple of possible reasons for no sequel: 1) box office numbers 2)he is a busy kpop singer that has been working/singing from the late 90s until now And 3) is that the movie came out in 2009 and he had to serve his mandatory Korean military service, and served from 2011 to 2013
I love this movie. I am glad to hear it found an audience and became a cult hit after its box office failure. It is so underrated, and the return of Sho Kosugi was just amazing to witness. I guess I know what I will be watching tonight!
Wait.... THIS MOVIE DIDN'T DO GOOD AT THE BOXOFFICE??!! WTF DO THE AMERICANS WANT FROM THEIR MOVIES!? I absolutely LOVED this movie when I saw it on blueray. I've seen it sooo many times now. I thought it's so beautifully made, and was so sure that it must've been a HUGE success when it first released.... And here I was wondering why they never made a sequel.
mahtada bashir You kinda answered it yourself as to why this was a box office flop. The first time you watched it was on Blu-Ray. There are plenty of films that just don't get scene for whatever reason. Ninja Assassin actually lost $2m at the box office, but that's nothing when you consider that far better films have lost far more money. For example: Scott Pilgrim vs the World lost $50m Iron Giant lost $50m Shawshank Redemption gained just $22m Office Space gained just £5m Fight Club gained just $40m Children of Men lost $6m Edge of Tomorrow gained just $190m - that's more successful that any of these, but when the budget was the same as films that make $800m-$1b, that makes it a huge flop. All these films are much better than Ninja Assassin and were also huge flops at the box office. These films have all made cult status too and are widely loved, but so few cared when they were first released. One thing cult classics have in common is originality or adaptation on books or comics that aren't popular. It's why Hollywood make sequels and popular adaptations all the time, because even when originality is good, people don't want to pay for it.
Americans are only interested in guns these days. The martial arts movie genre is dead in the west. Americans just want explosions and bullets. That's why a crap director like Michael Bay makes money.
the like some cheese and over dramatic movie, sick joke zombie movie, and overly blingky transformed movie or the gathering of batshit crazy as sniper..
I personally saw it in the theater, and purchased the Blu-ray when it was released. I don't do this with many films, I have maybe 20 movies overall. Even the Special Features on the disc are quality shorts.
American audience cant get enough of their marvel & dc garbage movies. im still waiting for the day a gundam movie will be made and watch people get their mind blown
Yup stephen well said . This is one movie after enter the dragon which i liked watching from the very first from the beginning till the end i liked watching it. really a awesome movie.
I need Hollywood to get this together. Hell, I want Rain to be in more action movies period. Who is his agent? And why haven't you been pushing him towards this?
@@birdiewolf3497because he's a kpop artist so his agent is gonna most likely focus on his music career rather than his acting and if he does do more acting it would probably be in Korea
I remember watching this movie when I was in 7th grade. That was the time when dvd player ruled the world. I got my own dvd player and this was the first movie cd I purchased which came with 5 other movies. Those were the days.Oh man nostalgia is hitting me so hard rn while writing this comment.
I've watched it 3 times now and I can still watch it over and over and still watch it😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣. It's a great movie. Recommend anyone that sees this to watch it.
What he does is training his body and do ninja moves with sweats and pain and bruises, if u ever took a martial arts class u would know how hard it is. It’s not easy like u sitting 1 place or answering phone calls or driving that truck lolz...
This was not one of the best ...IT WAS THE BEST ninja movie ever made . Best weapons.. Best ninja moves and the stealth movement oh that just nailed it . RAIN MURDERED this ninja movie
Am I the only one who watched it recently AND realized how much Rain needs to fight John Wick? That showdown would be the GOAT close combat sequence ever.
i think it shluldve been an old fashioned movie not modern with the cops i think the cops ruined it but i loved when it went in the flashbacks cuz it felt like a real ninja movie. if they made a ninja movie like that itd be amazing

I remember watching this movie when i was a kid and thought it was pretty good. Then I got into kpop and realized that that was Rain and Lee Joon, so now I watch it like once a year lol
I remember the directors and stuntmen praised Rain because the fight scenes were like choreography and being an idol he picked them up easily. This is my comfort movie and I can watch it 100 times

garpthehero333 It's not that people didn't like it, people just didn't give it a chance. Promotion wasn't done that well and the actors weren't that well know in the U.S.
Wasn't 'that blade and chain thing' in the 2008 game Ninja Gaiden 2. In fact this whole film seemed like it was inspired by Ninja Gaiden to me. It's how I see the film, the closest thing to Ninja Gaiden has to a film.

I don't remember seeing it hitting the theaters, but I wore it out on DVD, and have now watched the Blu-Ray a dozen times. It's my favorite "B-Movie" of all time.
Yes.. Me want more of this it was flesh out so good.. It was like a kill bill and anime mix into one.. For a movie that had a script done in just 53 hr i say that amazing.. Bring more please!!
The problem I had with watching this on cinema is that most of the fight scenes were done in the dark which makes it hard to appreciate. I rewatched it on a dvd with a brighter screen and it looked a lot better.
I loved Ninja Assassin. I thought it was cool how they made them almost a mythical thing, like shrikes being thrown like machine gun fire. It was a new take on older ideas. Wish they’d do another...
Pink Lamborghini Apprently they wanted to but it meant Rain would of have to moved to the state's and because his life and the majority of his work is in South Korea he didn't want to do that and he didnt feel his English was good enough. That's what I heard anyways dont know if its all true. Also in SK men have mandatory military service for 2 years and they must inlist before their 30 so he was proberly keen to get it out the way.
You should have been in the theater when I saw it when it first came out at the end all the hardcore fans meaning everybody in the theater stood up and gave it a standing ovation clapping no joke ,an awesome ninja flick
I remember seeing this in theaters, very interesting facts. While I did love the action and enjoyed the classically campy action-movie plot, one thing that did take me out of the experience to a small degree was the over-the-top stylized blood and edited "whoosh" effects of the weapons. Having watched this video, I now know why it was all intentional. The anime-inspirations (I remember thinking, "This is like a live-action anime" in the theater) make perfect sense. However, at the time, I didn't go into it expecting SO MUCH flashiness. I knew from the trailers that it would be an action-heavy gore feast but was hoping for a bit of a more grounded, realistic tone. It just distracted me from the choreography at points.
007Fusiion its like John Wick, the story is weak, but the action was amazing. Ninja Assassins had too much CGI imo, it kinda takes me away from the action
With the choreography being updated so much due to Rain adapting so quick, they basically trained him to actually be a ninja. Love to see him tryout for Mt. Midoriyama.
Learning your body's capabilities and limitations through high sources of nutrition and fitness is extremely beneficial physically mentally spiritually.
Wow, that's a blast from the past. It's all coming back to me now. That is how I know him as a pop star was through his character in full house. Thank you for reminding me!
Nice upload. Normally, script means almost everything to me in a movie, but this is one where the pacing, cinematography and fight sequences are just too good. Very underrated movie. Praying we get a sequel.
The chain knife weapon actually existed long before ninja assassin. There was even a yugi oh card called kunai with chain that featured the weapon. I am sure there are several old skool kung fu movies that disprove the claim that it was invented for ninja assassin.
The real weapon is known as a Kusarigama, and in reality it is a chain with a sickle blade on one end, and a weighted ball on the other. The weighted ball part of the weapon was thrown, attempting to knock the target off balance, down or disarm the target, so the wielder could move in with the sickle for the kill.
It must be a regional or class thing in England and in the U.S. My mother was from Long Island, NY and she used to do it too. It happens when there is a vowel on the end of a word followed by another word that begins with a vowel. I suppose it's easier (?) to tie them together with an r? I used to bust her on it all the time. Never got old. For me.
I have watched this movie multiple times, because I love Ninja films. I saw this just last week on Netflix and although it's slow at times, when the fights comes back it makes up for any shortcomings.
I grew up with Ninja and marshal art films. I bought this movie and have watched it at least 20 times. I liked the part of him being alone in his apartment "staying sharp." Very entertaining and the best Ninja movie I have ever seen.
