i wish they would've kept Monster Catnap being made out of humans. it wouldn't have been too gruesome since Monster Catnap is just a hallucination caused by the red smoke and not a real creature made from contorted corpses. i'm sure fans would've had fun finding a deeper meaning to it like, the people that imprisoned Catnap are now imprisoned within him or something
I’m pretty sure stuff like that does effect age ratings for movies and games (like if a kid dies in a movie but it turns out to be a nightmare then that’s allowed at least for a pg13 film if it shows the kids dream death in a bloody way) but I still think the fact that monster catnap is a hallucination isn’t enough to be able to keep marketing it to kids.
@@blendercouldren8063 oh yeah i get that. i just meant compared to what has been showed before in previous chapters (lots of blood and on-screen death; and in this chapter, human remains) plus the fact that getting a good look at Monster Catnap is difficult, other than the elevator sequence
Honestly I suspect he would have been a *nightmare* (pun intended) to actual animate/render in game. Sadly sometimes a great design gets dropped due to technical limitations of the time and that definitely has that kind of vibes unfortunately
You know, I think CatNap's nightmare form with the body of bodies was scrapped not because it was too scary, but rather because it would be a nightmare to model and rig.
As a 3D character creator myself, when I saw that concept art I went, "Yo, that's metal as hell." Immediately followed by "that would take the rest of my life to model. Let alone texture and rig."
It probably would’ve just been the smiling critters area and if they included the toy store the dog day area would’ve probably been shorter. Plus those critters follow catnap and Ollie says the playhouse is catnaps territory so it was probably for the better the toy store wasn’t added.
When I first saw the game and Ollie talked about the playhouse being dangerous, I thought the final boss would take place there. So it would’ve been cool to instead of going from the school to the playhouse to go from the school to the toy store.
That catnap stuff is geniualy gruesome. Already this chapter has lots of stuff you wouldn't expect from the previous chapters, but the monster catnap design being made out of humans is even worse; if they still wanted to keep it more family friendly whilst still having the original concept; perhaps they could have made him out of little smilling critters plushies; with of them being the same color as the finalised design.
I’m pretty this entire chapter was meant to tell us the game isn’t family friendly, but him being made out of smiling critter plushies would be so cool.
Also I think another reason why they didn’t go with the original Nightmare CatNap design is because having your victims be apart of you is something that fits the Prototype more. They likely saved that idea for the Prototype, since it fits him more than CatNap.
@@RaptorZer0 Yeah, I feel like we are gonna see some bodies in this game; they did say that they stored them at the bottom of the facility so they'll probably keep It for the final chapter.
My theory for the miss delight model is that she would start out normal and follow the player around trying to tell them nicely to leave but the the player would accidentally do something to get her face broken, making her mad and starting to do the normal chase thing.
3:50 you can actually see faces in the nightmare CatNap body, as he is chasing you down the elevator, more faces and hands appear like they are trapped inside and want to get out.
thats uh... what a concept sketch is. its a painting of the environment. sketch doesnt always mean pencil on paper. it just means a rough idea of something to be finalized later.
it’s NEVER been gruesome, sure there was a guy being hung with some organs spilling out, sure there was a character in a grinder, sure there was a door crushing someone, sure there were stains on girders when a charcter fell, sure (you get the point)
When it comes to the mask, In project playtime there are a few animal masks, and underneath them the descriptions say how they were given to children at Playcare, so most likely it was planned to show the masks like abandoned outside and at the home sweet home section, or even the toy store!
I actually think Mob did a good job at utilizing everything in-game. For me this isn't a Security Breach moment where the unused content would make the game better or more interesting, this time it's more so just extra levels that may take more time than really needed. I love puzzles but I definitely think adding a puzzle in each and every little nook and cranny of Playcare would be a bit too much. The duck ride was really neat though, maybe it'll get added in the full release (or not at all lol). Overall I'm very happy with Ch 3, although I do think having the shrine in the Toy store would've been neat so you could just go there and see it whenever. Also the St Louis rep is really cool. My brother is going there in a couple weeks and I've been to Busch stadium a few times. Really neat stuff
I really hope that they make the prototype the most scary indie horror game character like what tetrabit was talking about with the old nightmare catnap design. I also want the death to be gruesome.
Seeing the cleaned up model in action really makes me wish we could've seen more of it in game, it is especially horryfing when moving their facial features.
5:08 You can still kinda see some stuff like this in-game. But it's barely visible. Due to how far away and obscured in gas he is in the game. In the game. You can hack to see catnap having hands and heads trying to get out of him. Though he isn't MADE of humans. He does have humans trying to crawl out of his stomach as a hallucination for the player.
That OG Catnap design is actually insane lol. It would really be interesting what the game would look like if they decided to go full send with the gore and such. Also, I may be wrong but I think that Flashlight is the one that Poppy has when opening the fuse box
15:18 If ammo was planned, could this mean the hand swapping animation we got was intended to be the reloading animation for the flare gun? But since the ammo was scrapped the other swapping animation was left unused since maybe the team liked this animation more?
They did keep that original nightmare catnap design just not as much as the art shows. If you look closely you can see faces and hands pushing up against his skin like they are trying to get out
6:56 hear me out , what is the clean version of Ms. Delight was to be used before she attacks the power generator , and after it somewhat explodes THEN we would see the crazy Ms. Delight model
@@Justin_MM2_YT Given the other toys have no limitations on using their mouths to eat (you can clearly see Catnap's gas nozzle in the back of his throat, he shouldn't be able to eat either yet he hasn't died of starvation so presumably he can) it seems weird Miss Delight would be the only one to have this constraint. Her face being broken almost certainly wasn't to allow her to eat, but as a consequence of the resulting fights with her sisters (possibly having her mouth forced open to try and stop her from biting someone).
@Real_FatCat_Official misinform? He said IF, so he was saying a concept. Also, Ms delight ate her sister a few weeks or months AFTER the hour of joy, not IN the hour of joy. So maybe you need to think before speaking.
the toys building is probably where we will originally meet the mini smilling critters, and when we were doing puzzles and stuff, we are forced to go to playhouse and meet dogday. So, when we finished with school, we actually get out of there and be given a key to go to toys building probably bc it has a generator to. But the devs probably scrapped it because it doesnt have the same feeling as the "dangerous playhouse" that ollie mentioned. Like basically ollie sends u a key to the toy building but he knows that he had told playhouse is a dangerous place, so that would make it obvious that ollie is evil. Forcing the player to go to the playhouse after school without any talk with ollie also seems way more terrifying. This is my theory btw
I much prefer the look of the concepts of the Home Sweet Home rooms than the decaying, seemingly out of place, Victorian mansion vibe we got. Still cool nonetheless.
The Viewmaster unused item i would think would be used to pick up clues as to what to do in the school if you're stuck on a puzzle or something. idk, just a small thought i had on that unused item that could have been used if you found hints across the building in the form of the viewmaster slides.
. 3:34 The fact that there's a Blossom doll implies that if they want to, Cartoon Network could be canonized in the game. And people are apparently fusing Poppy Playtime with G.O.B... *Run. Hide. Fight. Whatever needs to be done about this.*
16:22 Well if Playtime started operating around 1930's there is a good chance that War department ordered them to manufacture ammunition and firearms during WW2.
The lost bits of characters they mob games posted had I think three clown sketches. The fact that there is a secret clown mask or face and also a poster for a carnival might mean we will see a clown next chapter 🎉
I wish they kept the nightmare catnap design and the hand switching animation Although, the nightmare catnap was probably scrapped because it would've been a *nightmare* to model, rig and animate it.
I think the viewmaster was going to be how the trophies worked in Chapter 2, and maybe you could've collected discs to see certain images, like concept art and stuff. And the hollow octagon is a disc.
I think the View Mater could've been an early idea for how The Hour Of Joy would've been revealed, if not just being hinted at before the big reveal at the end. Like you find it, and it has a vew images of the Hour Of Joy, just giving you enough to leave you questioning, but enough to outright reveal it yet
That CatNap stuff seem to hint at the option, that the Smiling Critters dont actually have to eat, but still have the desire. All those humans swallowed, trapped and died inside the suit.
I’m surprised I wasn’t subbed yet Lemmi fix that Also: mob, why must you get rid of such beauty of a horror game Please, just PLEASE DONT HOLD BACK ON. HAPTER FOUR
This is very much an off the wall idea, but I think the Viewmaster might have been the original way the player was shown the Hour of Joy. Considering most of the tape itself is still images, I could see it that Poppy would hand you over the Viewmaster instead of inserting a tape. The player would then use the item and have to click through it to see the chaos unfold during the Hour of Joy, given time to see the massacre happen within the few images that may have been saved onto it.
For me, the way to make that concept nightmare catnap (with multiple body-like texture) is by having his main face have a disturbing grin like Miss. Delight but only creepier, and a humanoid head within Catnap's mouth that looks like it is decaying, also having a disturbing grin like Miss Delight, but all of that extra disturbing, looking more disturbing.
10:53 It's probably a coincidence, since those are all secondary colors (and thus able to be results of simple mixes), and green, red, and blue were already claimed for grab-hands by previous chapters, leaving only orange, purple, and yellow as possible options for primary or secondary colored hands. Thus, so at least one new secondary would have be used as a grab-hand, and I've seen orange used with flares a lot more than yellow. This leaves only yellow and purple for the jump hand, and yellow looks far too similar to orange in a game where all of your choices have a lot of color contrast.
That CatNap concept art, with the people-tail, gives me major Shin Godzilla vibes. It was probably scrapped because it seems like a nightmare (heh) to model, but my god, that would've been so freaking cool.
maybe instead of miss delight there would have that clown or maybe they both are planned for the chapter but they needed to take out one so there would be - time for gameplay? and maybe thats why we have that water part that was probably planned for the old mini smilling critters puzzle
Thought I'd mention that the unused miss delight IS actually used. The unused model is the one used in the scenes where we see her in glimpses throughout the schoolhouse. It's hard to see but the miss delight seen in glimpses has the cleaner hair of the unused model.
I suppose we all forgot the family friendly themes of human experimentation and child murder. Having the body of dead kids grafted into giant toys is all good and dandy, just don't show it on the outside
"For ages 8 and up. Nothing overly gruesome or graphic. No nightmare fuel." Children screaming, child abuse and experimentation, toys ripped apart and hanged with blood everywhere, jumpscares galore, psychological themes and attacks, the designs. How is this not nightmare fuel?! Sure I played Doom and Quake 1-2 when I was 5 and Sanitarium at 7 was a treat. But this is way too graphical and dark to be 8 and up.
11:11 The planets (and the Sun) are connected by lines in the order they appear in the solar system Sun - Mercury - Venus - Earth - Mars - Jupiter - Saturn - Uranus - Neptune - Pluto
I'm pretty sure that someone has pointed this out, but the original version of Nightmare Catnap, the one with the people trying to push their way out of his body.... might be a reference to Nightmare on Elf Street's Freddy Krueger. In a few of the films, he's revealed his chest to show off his latest victims as part of his body and they are still screaming.
5:45 they sure took a big inspiration from Springtrap. First this concept that is very similar, then they improoved on it making Dogday's death much worse. They took the concept of a character being harmed while they were alive, changed the method and made the victim a good guy. Chapter 3 feels like a compilation of lots of indie horror concepts.
4:24 i love how it said "its not gruesome, its not gory, its not nightmare fuel" and then there are iconic parts of the toys getting murdered in gruesome, gory and probably scare some kiddos xD
I'm not sure Miss Delight's clean model garuntees she had a larger role. In my experience of various artistic endevors, if one wants to make something look worn or broken, they have to make the Baseline before they decide how it Might Break. True of writers who world build and crafters who add wear to cosplays and props. True of painters who layer on details and turn lines of brown into dense detailed forest with every limb bespoke. Some bent, some broken, one tree standing dead- all detailed after establishing a base shape. If I was going to model a Survivor character who was locked in a space, I'd want a baseline all rigged up to walk around, refine fabric animations, and then figure out every corner her skirt might catch on and add the tare at just the right height to tell a story.
they should start using the more gruesome designs for some characters. like i think the game is suitable, especially with things like turning kids into monsters via experiments, the hour of joy, red hallucinogenic gas, etc.
All the basic models genuinely look like they came straight out of Ban Ban, and I can’t tell whether that’s commending the Playtime team’s skills or the Ban Ban brother’s lack of them.
