I hope you got an hour to spare! Join me as I take a look at the final Lord of the Rings film: The Return of the King! #TheLordOfTheRings #ReturnOfTheKing #MovieReview
What was moving about the scene where Aragorn says "My friends.... you bow to no one" is that while the Hobbits respect him as the new King of Gondor, Aragorn makes it clear that 4 Hobbits also deserve recognition given their experiences on this epic quest as the Fellowship. Furthermore, Aragorn is making it clear that his coronation isn't just about him. THAT scene also shows how Aragorn is probably the first King of Gondor who didn't think about himself or his power.
It's weird; usually you wish you COULD see the aftermath of a happy ending, but the film normally just ends with the villain being defeated, the hero gets the girl, says a snappy one-liner, and then it cuts to black. In this film, you get a full parade of "this is what happened afterwards", but no one (except me) seems to be happy with it. *THERE'S JUST NO PLEASING YOU PEOPLE, IS THERE?!*
+S.A.M. I agree. The only problem with the ending in this film is not that it goes on forever, but more because there are a lot of fade outs that makes you think the movie is going to end when it isn't. It's sending mixed signals in my head when I'm watching it.
I think it's more of an issue in a film that only exists on it's own. If it's the wrap-up to a saga, then they should spend as much time as possible concluding it. It's easier in a TV series because you can have an additional episode to cover the epilogue period, but in a movie you can't spend too long continuing the story after the wrap up.

Just watched Return of the king extended in the cinema. While I'm exhausted, it was a great experience seeing it on the big screen. One of my favourite films and cinema experiences.
"Stormtroopers of Middle Earth." That was way too accurate. Always bothered me how poorly represented the Gondorian soldiers were in this movie, to be honest..
I have to say that just in terms of sheer consistency of quality I can't think of any other trilogy, or indeed film series, that matches Lord of the Rings. There isn't a movie that I can deem substantially weaker than any other in the entire trilogy, unlike almost any other series. I suppose the exception would probably be the original Star Wars trilogy. Maybe the Indiana Jones trilogy, although for a lot of people Temple of Doom was the weak link.
WolfsGamingBlog I'd have to say I kind of find Two Towers to be a weak link. It's certainly not weak. But whereas fellowship and Return had me completely invested with only the occasional silly moment I can only think of a few scenes in Two Towers I was captivated by. Namely Sams speech and Gollums argument with himself.
Does it count if I rate A New Hope 9,5 Empire 10 Jedi 10 since the only thing hindering ep 4 are the special effects which understandably couldn't be helped.
Oh man that ending got me hyped up. I NEED THOSE REVIEWS NOW OKAY. As always, great video, I chuckled many many times, and thanks for the hour of entertainment!
Actually there is a reason why Pippin was with Gandalf, when he defeated the Nazgûl on the Pelennor with light - Originally the scene was meant to take place immediatly after they arrive at Minas Tirith, even before they enter the city. That changend in the editing process and was shifted to after the conversation with Denethor. Guess they didn't have time to reshoot that bit or didn't think of it as necessary.
I busted my guts laughing at your use of the elephants' parade theme from Jungle Book for the Mumakil attack. Absolutely brilliant! If you had a live studio audience like in a sitcom, I reckon that moment would've got you a standing ovation.
@@EricGraham94 Perhaps the scenes like with the Council at times, and the Senate. But, there are also the romance scenes in Episode II that can just be skipped over.
Will you please do a review of Peter Jackson's King Kong? I really want to see what you thought of that movie! It's personally one of my favorites of his.
I am disappointed that you didn't end this review by getting a winning lottery ticket for a plane ride to New Zealand like you mentioned as joke in your Fellowship of the Ring Review.
Awesome review. I loved your review. You are so freakin funny and hilarious. You're like the British version of nostalgia critic. Please forgive me and correct me if I'm mistaken of your nationality. I apologize dearly if I offended you. But I really loved your video, you're one of the best critics ever. You're freakin awesome.
37:10 This scene is one of the many reasons why I love the Orcs and Uruks. They’re so brutal!! Shadow Of Mordor and War takes it up a notch for their brutality. Heck, Sauron didn’t even give a damn about their infighting. When one Orc or Uruk died, 10,000 more awaited to take their place.
As one who has been playing Shadow of Mordor recently, it does a good job highlighting how nasty the orcs are to each other. It may not be canon but wow is it accurate.
@@bobo577 it’s accurate to how Tolkien portrayed the Orcs and all their breeds. They’re not special, they’re expendable, a means to an end for Sauron’s goals. So, like I said, he doesn’t care if they start a fight amongst themselves over food or spoils of war.
@@celestialspartan1176 It also makes me think once again why Morgoth and Sauron even bothered using them as servants, they were ineffectual except in large numbers.
Your reviews just get better everytime. I can't imagian how hard u work. Retaking scenes, get yourself freshend up for the video and I love how u put so much effort u put in scenes where u add music when u edit it. Congrats on another great review
Matt Clay They're also on my to-do list. If you head over to the FAQ section on my blog you will see a list of all the films I plan to do: theunusualsuspectblog.blogspot.co.uk/p/faq.html
Awesome, can't wait to see what other things you have planned, my cousin also watches you and wants you to do a ant man themed trailer for avengers, but he needs to realise that it takes time
Dude your reviews are the best I don't think I've seen anyone review this detailed and yet it's still funny and really interesting to listen to you rock man
This is quite possibly my favorite review of yours. Almost all of your comedy hit, you made some good and unique points, and even after an hour I still wanted to hear more of what you had to say. Solid review.
The Unusual Suspect HOLY SHIT! IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEES! I have a question though. How did you do the progress bar thing on your blogspot. Was it like a widget or something, or is it part of the blogspot? I want to have a progress bar for a project of my own but don't feel like making an entire website just because of that. But if I have to, I might. Got any advice there? thanks in advance. :)
SuperDBZHPFan It was a bit of code I found and altered. I put it into the HTML edit on blogger. If you send me a Facebook message I can copy and paste the code for you.
Also people lets not ask Unusual Suspect when his next review of a certain movie will be. He's got a life of his own and he's taking his time to make the next review as quality as possible (writing, filming, editing). He's even asked us not to nag him on his update on his Attack of the Clones review. TLDR: the guy's busy and he's trying
Even though I have never read or seen The Lord of the Rings (Internet don't kill me) I still thought your reviews were hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing when u made fun of the ending never ending.
In the book the ending is even longer, and for good reason: *SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK. DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU INTEND TO READ THE BOOKS!!* Instead of getting killed at the tower, Sauramon escapes with Wormtongue to The Shire. When Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin return all happy from Gondor and ready to throw a massive celebration, they find the Shire under control of Sauramon and his half orcs. This is a revenge plot of Sauramon. He lost everything and wants the hobbits to feel as bad as him by taking away everything from them. But Merry and Pippin manage to rally a whole bunch of hobbits together, arm them, and fight off the half orcs (Merry and Pippin both having some experience with battle tactics now and the half orcs being kinda incompetent). After that is done they find Sauramon living in Frodo's house. He tries to use his speech craft to demoralise the hobbits but Frodo is wise of Sauramon's skill with words and puts him in his place. Frodo also tries to convince Wormtongue that he doesn't have to stay and be abused by Sauramon anymore. Sauramon laughs and says in an extremely demeaning way that Wormtongue only purpose in life is to serve him. Wormtongue subsequently stabs Sauramon in the back (literally) and Sauramon dies, releasing a burst of energy in the shape of his screaming face that then rises up and fades out. The partying, drinking and Sam getting married that we see in the movie picks up from there. Alright, so it was a long time ago since I last read the books, so some of the details might not be spot on.
The reason why people keep joking that Frodo and Sam are gay is beacuse these movies show friendship that isn't seen a lot in today's world, so people say that they're gay, while they just have strong bond and they're friendship is really powerfull. I love your videos.
After doing hours of GCSE Stats revision, it was very nice to take a break and see what wonders were in my subscription box! Fantastic review, suspect! Keep up the great work (your editing in particular, is exceptional)!
Excellent review! I really think that this was your funniest and best edited review, and you actually opened my eyes up to some nit picking flaws, that my bias self didn't even pick up on. Return of the King is my personal favourite, mostly because how emotionally powerful it is, I just ball my eyes out every damn time Frodo has to leave, and also because everything that could have gone wrong didn't go wrong. Then it would be Fellowship, and then Two Towers, all of them are of equal quality but that's just me. I am also a defender of the epilogue because as you said, the final movie needs to bring closure to characters we've been invested in for so long, and if it didn't then what was the point of sitting through it, and i'm glad that it ended with Sam walking into the house because it was a nice way of saying "It began in a hobbit hole, and ends in a hobbit hole" and i'm absolutely in agreement with you that the seg way between Gimli and Aragorn on his horse in the theatrical cut was much better than the extended version (despite preferring the extended cut) To sum it up I love this trilogy, and I am in agreement with you that it is the greatest trilogy of all time, the quality of the acting, the sets, the costumes, the prosthetic's, the visual effects (that all still hold up by today's standards), the story, the fucking score (Howard Shore you beautiful beast), the drama, the comedy, the tension, the camera work, and the emotional capacity, no series of films come close to this one in my opinion and these films will forever remain embedded in my childhood memories.
Dear Suspect, Have you ever considered doing a Behind-the-Scenes video on how you make one of your reviews? I realize that your previous hints and replies to other RU-vid comments have sort've explained the eons of absence between each video. However, if your time were worth it, I, (and probably a lot of others), would love to see such a video. Perhaps like Nostalgia Critic's How to Make a Review video; make it a step by step process. Anyway, it seems like an idea that could be fun to look forward to in the future. =)
Not sure if you'll see this, but I want you to know that I absolutely love all your reviews, and I /LOVE/ your accent! I could listen to you speak for hours! Keep up the good work
if i have one problem with this film, WHY DID THE RIDERS OF ROHAN GO STRAIGHT INTO THE MUMAKIL!? they are riding horses and have an insane maneuverability advantage but just don't use it
Jerec 12 they really should've just done what the romans did and open up gaps in their lines to herd the mumakils in allowing them to spear them to death for more easily.
Another amazing review. And for a film I love from the country I was born and raised in. Thanks for this, I like to hear your input on the films I like, specially the trilogy I've had since I was little (being born in 1997, I'm not much older then the Lord of the Rings). I can't wait to hear what you have to say about the prequel trilogy of Star Wars, films I've recently re-watched. I'd also like to add that I've sat through this entire review enjoying all of it, not noticing at all that it was a minute shy of an hour long.
+The Unusual Suspect I know this review was from last year, and I watched it when it came out, but just watching it now I realized something. At 31:00, when you're talking about how the enemy thinks Pippin has the Ring, but the Witch King leaves him, you said that doesn't make any sense. Well, actually. it does. The Witch King can sense the Ring. So, he knows Pippin doesn't have the Ring. Simple
OfficialAvenger Comedic effect dude, imagine it, the scene playing out, the guy whinning about how strawberrys are the most obvious sex related fruits and then the Minions suddenly appearing and then BAM banana
