1. If you fart into a mic, you just bought it. No exceptions even if it's a holy grail vintage price. No one will ever come in and ask "Do you have the mic Bumblefuk farted into? I want to sing into that!"

@@AdamSliger Oh yeah, how about this? If you're a gutiarist, spend time practicing without reverb before you come into the studio. ...And Yes, I'm using that DI so I can replace your Crate amp when you leave.

Do be on time, but DON'T be early! Before your session time, I'm getting ready for you, and being early just jams up that process.

Fortunately, I stopped working with other people, because no one ever respected any rules. Especially 'don't try to get me to work for free', if anything the opposite rule existed in the minds of those who wanted me to work.

The only thing in this video that I disagreed with is when you said, "Judo kick". I did judo for a very long time and a big part of it is that there are no striking techniques. Only throws, chokes, holds, and armbars.

Looking forward to the producer version, because there’s a couple of these that I find fairly unreasonable. It’s good to distinguish whether or not you’re working with actual artists who are making good art, versus some local band that sounds like everyone else who just wants an excuse to pick up an instrument in public. Artists need time to be artists in studios and they should have the freedom to do so. If your goal is to make good art, then you need to allow the artist a space to make it. Many of these are not unlike telling some young boy with a ton of energy that he needs to sit still in a classroom for eight hours a day, thinking that’s going to be productive for him. I’ve been getting tired of producers who want to be a part of the creative process, complaining about the creative process. If you want a normal job with normal coworkers, there’s plenty of those jobs available for you.
@AdamSliger
@AdamSliger 4 месяца назад
I’m not sure what part of this lead you to believe that I don’t want artists to be creative lol. I actually encouraged them to stand up for their vision and speak up if the producer is taking the song in a direction they don’t agree with. And I think you’ll like the second one.
@scottmichael971
@scottmichael971 4 месяца назад
@@AdamSliger I’m not calling you out specifically although it sounded like I was. I don’t know much about you, I’m more so speaking about producers in general. Also, like I previously mentioned, it’s important to distinguish the difference between actual artists, and people who just want to play around with instruments, because there are definitely not the same

Months before going in the studio bring I have the best luthier go through my guitars, I might put new tubes in my amp, I practice the songs, I come up with some guitar ideas like some harmonies, have ideas just incase a lead doesn’t work, think about where to put strings or stuff like that and what not so when we get in the studio we don’t get stuck as much and also really try to make sure the song structure is good. A few of the biggest mistakes bands that are new to recording studios imo are not being able to play to a click, thinking they can record 10 songs in 3 days, insisting on using some junk gear like a cheap vocal microphone and microphone pre amp they think it sounds amazing because they use it at home all the time but it sounds terrible, being too emotionally attached to parts like hyper focused on some little guitar part that doesn’t even matte also not willing to do something like the engineer recommended to cut a perverse in half because it makes the song loose excitement in that area but the band doesn’t agree because they have been playing the song like that, here’s a big one not listening to the engineer about ur super over saturated guitar tone with that the engineer knows the bass won’t be audible among other things and for god sake ur girlfriends, friends and families don’t need to sit at a 8 hour studio session I literally would go by myself a bunch when doing all the rhythm guitar tracks just so there was no distractions all that does is waste the studio time ur paying for. I’m guilty of many of these things just like everyone else when starting out. I recorded a couple ep’s but when my last band recorded a full album I learned a lot and the most important thing didn’t come until after the album was done and I had time away from it which was the most important thing was me being too attached to the songs worried about stuff that didn’t matter it made me not hear the songs as a songwriter and when I heard them after a few months I’m like this part is too long, that word is weird there it should be a different word, that should have rang out, the bass should play 1/4 notes here muting the strings after each note so the snare has space to fit in, just stuff that producers do to make good song’s great.
