GREAT video Josh.Really loved the topic, the exercise and all the examples.... My question: how does this exercise work? does it train you when to apply the brakes? I understand shcok absorber, but wondering how/why the initial "up" helps you find the right movement. I guess it helps you teach/train yourself to make a bit shallower key drop and a sort of cushiony landing rather than a percussive landing on the key? I guess you have to go up before you can go down and you are going up with the finger rather than the whole arm or wrist...so you can feel exactly how lightness and softness feels in any single finger?

Some of his videos can be pretty interesting, intriguiging, and helpful! Just..., I can't help but always be bugged by his speaking habits...! xD His train of thought just always goes all over the place, and he constantly interrupts himself... It gets hard for me to follow sometimes. I hope he would take this as constructive criticism: to be consciously aware of the train of thought he's trying to communicate, and to be careful not to interrupt himself so much. Nonetheless, I know that professional pianists know what it means to be constantly self-improving through their entire lives, and I do keep coming back to his videos, so cheers! And thanks! :)

I have the same problem as he might have, where people can't follow what I say. I recently noticed it's because my thoughts move way too quickly for my speech to keep up. Basically I have trouble keeping to important topics and not straying off to side topics

Randy, I have also been in your shoes what helps me is writing a brief outline on index cards to study in advance as well as referring to them as I spoke. Perhaps this may solve your problem . BEST:)

Thank you Josh for your willingness to share. Do I understand you correctly that we create a shock absorber in our bodies by directing energy away from our fingers into our wrists and forearms when we are playing legerio? How often should we do this exercise? Again thank you so very much, you are such an inspiration!

Hi Mr. Wright! Can you do a video on a sloppy left hand for scales? For some reason I can play scales just fine at 120 tempo if I have my right hand playing with my left, but, if I take out my right hand to work on my left hand and slow down the tempo it completely fails. Also, will rotation of my left wrist help in the Haydn Sonata No. 48 1st movement when the chords in the beginning turn into broken triads? Thanks!

Can I use this technique to practice Hanon peices, instead of hard firm finger method we are usually taught at the beginning? How long can I master this finger touch if I practice 20 minutes a day?
