Funny thing. China still has not paid us back for the railroads we built all those years ago. It’s believed that should they pay, half of us would instantly become multimillionaires since the railroads were funded by citizens and not the government. China refuses to acknowledge that debt, but do you knows who does? Taiwan.
Oh, let me double down on that one: If China wants to collect our debts, they need to get that money from ALLLLL the nations we've loaned money to, and they haven't paid it back. That was a real political powder keg in the 70's: why are we loaning money to nations who truly hate us, and see us as enemies?! Like North African nations, well, the Southern Meditteranean countries. Isreal is the only one who pays for what we send in armaments. That's because the are the only Democracy with a stable economy.
The funny thing England and America both loaned the original China a huge amount of money, when the knock off version of china took over. All of that debt carried over to them, then when they wanted Hong Kong back England made sure they paid them back their loan completely before the handover. The equivalent amount they owe today is over a trillion dollars to the US, at the moment west Taiwan. Sorry I mean china, I don't know why I keep doing that. They own 859 billion dollars of US debt, which is if we made them pay back what they owed. Would cancel out the debt china owns of the US, while still owing hundreds of billions of dollars to the US, yet no Republican or Democrat President has ever made them pay back their debt.
China owes us a lot of money. The UK owes us a lot of money. Germany owes us a lot of money. Fucking Russia (former Soviet Union) owes us a lot of money. If America decided to cash in on all those IOUs, then so many countries economies would tank so hard for a few years.
Nah. The US is basically the world police. No one else wants to do that job (except maybe China so they can bully more people.) we do a lot more good than people think.

For those who don't know, U.S. debt to other countries is typically through Treasury bonds and Treasury notes. These debt instruments have a set maturity date, at which point the principal and interest are paid back. The only way to cash them in before the maturity date is to sell them on the secondary market. In other words, a country can not collect on the debt before the maturity date. We also don't default on our debt and doing so would be completely dumb as it would make any new debt skyrocket in cost due to the higher interest rates that would be demanded by the market for the increased risk.
ive literally been saying this for years. The bank forcloses on you and your scared of what? the bank? no. the guys they send to take your shit. and which guys, are gonna come take the US militaries shit?
Most of US debt is owed to other American buyers. If you own Savings Bonds, that is US debt, and likewise if you own mutual funds that can invest in US debt (ie, the mutual fund buys the bonds) then they own the debt.
There is also the fact that if China tries to collect on the debt prematurely, it will sink their OWN economy. If they keep getting paid, it's an asset. If they payments stop, it's America's problem AND China's problem.
Most countries that owe the US money owe an astronomical amount more than the US owes their, or other, countries. We basically paid for and rebuilt all of the EU after WW2 and we paid for all of China’s railways and we also paid for Russia’s reconstruction after WW2, along w France and the UK etc…if we cashed in on all those then those countries would be economically destroyed.
Fact. China has reduced its holdings of U.S. treasury bonds. Down to about 800 Billion$ making them number 2 on the list. Japan holds about 1 Trillion$. The vast majority of U.S. debt is held internally. Fact. China owes the U.S. more debt then China holds in U.S. treasuries. However China denies it. Fun Fact: Everyone with the exception of like 2 countries(Norway and the Saudis i think) owes debt to everyone else. Like Japan holds about 1 Trillion$ in U.S. treasuries, yet owes more then that. Strange reality, but True.🤔🤗
North korea is a weak little country and still no one goes over to collect. Instead we just stop all trade with the unreliable trading partner, write off the goods as stolen and move on with our life. If you want to keep trading you better pay your debts. Divided we fall, together we stand.
So I like a lot of your video's, I think there funny and most are entertaining. this video with honest criticism, isn't one that I actually liked. maybe I missed the message all together, but what I took away from the video is since we have so much military power in the world, we should not be held to the standards that everyone else is held up too. for example in the video you say that we have a massive debt that we owe and instead of doing diplomacy we ege them on saying who is going to come collect. this is just criticism, i'm not stating that I out right hate you or your content, I just don't agree with the message said in this video.
Hmmm. This is making me think.. (fuck you I hate doing that some times). SO! Everyone owes everyone else a certain amount of debt. Between governments I mean. Why not, and here me out. Have each government that owes each other, instead of paying the dues, forgive the equal levels. Not including interest. That still gunna be a thing. Because that's why loans are usually given in the first place. There would need to be a bit of inside paying for those whom are affected by their respective countries. But on the whole it would help balance things out. Like if I owed you a thousand dollars and you owed me four hundred. We'd agree that I owed only six hundred. The only thing that wouldn't be affected would be interest like say., five percent a year. But you can agree to let that be reduced too each year until there is no bill. THere would be some push back because of how economies work.
Yeah but the debt is sometimes in entirely different sectors, like agriculture vs military for example. I think that if you forgave all the agriculture debt out there, for example, you'd have a lot of angry farmers. An economy is a system that moves money. The less of the money that moves, even in a quasi-artificial way as you see in our current system, the weaker the economy.
