In this video, we explain why the US passport is losing its power and what it means for American travelers. For eight years in a row, the Nomad Passport Index has been published, ranking passports based on factors like visa-free travel, taxation, personal freedom, and global perception. Shockingly, this year, the US passport has hit one of its lowest scores ever.

I agree 100% with this video. I'm Canadian but I grew up in the USA in Miami and did all my studies in the US. When my mother got sick with Cancer in Miami, she decided to go back to Canada for treatments because of socialized medicine. So I decided to go back to Canada to be with my Mom. But I still had to go back to the US to conduct my businesses. And each time I would cross the border the freaking US border administration would make my life soooo miserable that after being detained for 8 hours on several occasions and interrogated for hours for being a dual citizen and traveling back and forth and missing my flights and having to book last minutes flights again and having to stay in a hotel for an extra night and all these expenses that they forced me to incur and the waste of time they caused me and delays to my meetings and attending to my business, I've decided to burn it and forfeited my papers and citizenship. It's wasn't worth the trouble. These people have absolutely zero respect for the years of contribution I had given to their country. I have never set foot in the US ever again. Oh and moreover, because at the time I had forfeited my status, they banned me from entry into the US even if it was to catch a flight to go elsewhere in the world. So screw them. I hate the US . I'll never go back ever again.

Nah, trump is too selfish to win any outliers to the US. The best he’s gonna do is improve the us for Americans, but that is all the us was ever for. The US regularly harassed non citizens and secretly treats all visitors as illegal aliens. I’ve been billed by bad businessmen that took advantage of my being Canadian to bill me out of over 35k and with nothing to show of it so like above I’ll likely never be returning to the USA. I’ve also had issues with them just trying to use my international right of transition within us airports.

Not only dual citizenship people but they even treat their own probably more worse. I went to Vancouver and had to go back to the states but the US immigration officials asked me some $tupid questions. For example, Why am I going to the US? I showed them my passport already 😂

Most of the US government's unfortunate interactions with other nations, especially over the last 30-40 years, has been driven by a desire to defend the world reserve currency status of the dollar, all the while destroying it through irresponsible economic, social and political policies. There is no need for a world reserve currency. If you looked at nearly every American's balance sheet, you would realize that having the reserve currency has made them poorer, not richer.
@albertwong4832
@albertwong4832 2 дня назад
Being a reserve currency is not from desire, but from having a desired currency because it is stable and freely traded. That is why the Chinese Yuan is not a reserve currency. It comes with many benefits and a few responsiblities.

Having it pegged is largely out of the us desire to remain economically advantaged, a status that will eventually be removed after India and Chinas manufacturing reaches parity.

@lks11 is it possible that the reason why we are going electric is because the US can no longer bully its petrodollar on a pedestal. Due to the education of simply being able to use alternative fuels like bio-diesel etc. It's no longer reasonable to have a dollar pegged to crude oil and be at the mercy of OPEC..... also wtf is crude oil. If we pump so much of the earth's blood and those pools are empty can't that cause a foundational collapse of the earth's surface..... it makes no sense geological...... so with that said the dollar is naturally meant to be depegged..... now historically speaking what's the next global reserve currency...... XRP, BTC, XDC...... if so how can the globe come to a consensus....... now we have to stress test these DLT currencies....... if we collapse the dollar we best have a stress tested new currency on a global scale. Because obviously the globe should be free to all humans. We don't want to close borders it's best we stay globally friendly. So we have to have a credible, quality new reserve currency to equalize all economies and each economy will be as strong as its working class and not its swindling class/ evil lazy slothy class.....

And I got an education, worked hard, and invested, so I retired early. America came out of the pandemic better than almost anyone, while China, Russia, and others are treading water still. Inflation sucks, but inflation was global, and in the U.S. it's come way down. In Argentina it's 276%; in Turkey, it's 75%; in the U.S. it's just over 3%; in China, they have had short periods of deflation, which is worse - and China lies about their stats anyway, so things are always worse than they say...same for Russia. Go ahead, move. No one is stopping you. You'll like it there for a while and then you'll start missing things; that's usually what happens. But maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones. Go for it. It’s funny how there are still people whose small 9-5 minds are so fixated to the job seeker mindset of “I can only make good money in America”, whose minds are so limited to the point to naively believe someone’s income is linked to their nationality only. It’s 2024, lots of money is made on the internet, cross borders, etc. As long as the citizenship is not from a heavily sanctioned country, there’re plenty of ways to make money regardless of citizenship. These naysayers worrying about job prospects should just go watch their American centric doomer negative videos about how job market is too hard now. Love your content as usual. Getting a USA B1/B2 visa is almost like a lottery, and you often get rejected for the same reason. They say you don't have enough ties to Brazil to qualify for this visa. For example, I work remotely for a tech software company in the USA and earn around $5,000 a month. However, since my wife and I are under 25 years old and didn't come from a wealthy family, we got rejected. Honestly, I have a secure job here, so how could they think we would immigrate illegally in such a scenario? I still want to go to the USA, but having only five cities in Brazil where you can apply for a visa and going through all of this makes me feel like I'm begging and humiliating myself to get a USA visa. Next year, we'll try to go to Canada. If that doesn't work, I guess that's it. The USA embassy treats South American people like inferior human beings. If none of this works, I'll travel to alternative countries, and they'll be the ones missing out on my money.

That is the dirty little secret to why government never fixes immigration. They know we need many immigrants, and illegals work for less, which is what political donors in certain industries want. The government also likes them because they commit fewer crimes per capita than U.S. citizens, pay more in taxes than they get in benefits, and can be sent home if they are a problem and are caught. I knew about ETIAS coming through. I will handle that as an American. NOTE: the places I travel to beyond the Americas often require a visa. They are India, Cambodia, and Vietnam. I have a standing visa in my US passport for India and for Vietnam. For India I have an OCI visa. For Vietnam I have a visa waiver because I am married to a Viet Kieu. My wife enters and leaves Vietnam on her USA passport (not her Vietnam one). She also has a stamp in her USA passport to do it. She gets hassled as a Viet Kieu if she shows her Vietnam passport to the officer. They want a bribe if she shows her Vietnam passport. The USA passport is a deterrent. So, for things like E-Visa I have done it as an American. I have gotten physical visas as an American. Typical stuff. I knew about Cuba for foreigners. That is why foreigners get a new passport and keep their mouth shut about Cuba for USA. This is why my friends get a new passport after returning from Israel. I understand why you rant the US excessively from the perspectives of a nomad capitalist. The US definitely has a handful of chronically pervasive issues regarding the economy and passport index but it isn't as ostensibly shabby as depicted. It is obviously better off to have mutiple citizenships but I reckon the US passport might be just prestigious enough to visit most countries on earth.

To visit, sure. To do business, not so much. Your government has a habit of sanctioning all manner of people, countries, entities, banks, companies - this jurisdictions applies to US persons, meaning that you personally cannot deal with parties under sanction which cuts you off from business. A clear example is the BDS movement against Israel. By law, an American person cannot deal with anyone of any company who even personally expresses support for BDS even if they don't actually do a boycott. Think about what that means for company liability if they have an American dealing with foreign business partners in countries that are generally anti-zionist. You' re just not going to get some positions, because of your nationality being such a massive risk.

Brazil operates its visa policy based on diplomacy. It's VERY difficult for Brazilians to even VISIT the U.S., why should Brazil allow American tourists to easily visit Brazil? I'm Brazilian and 2 years ago some of my family members applied for a tourist visa because they wanted to vacation at DisneyWorld in Florida. They paid a non-refundable amount of 300 US$ (very expensive to Brazilian standards), showed proof that they're not planning to overstay their visa and spent hours in line at the consulate just to be denied entry and be treated badly by the staff.

The health system in America is crazy expensive. Getting an appointment takes months. I was thinking, by the time it’s our turn, we might have dead if we didn’t look for alternative treatments like the Oriental herbs , acupuncture and the like. Besides, Dental and vision treatments are way way much more reasonable, and affordable in Malaysia. The funds we had to pay after deductible out of our own money we can book a round trip flight ticket from the USA to Malaysia for special health medical , dental, or vision treatments and yet take a short vacation than treating in the America even with health care insurance. BTW, the quality of health care in Malaysia is excellent. I was told that many expats had made special medical treatment trips to Malaysia.

While I agree with many of the things Andrew presents, he is not being fair regarding the requirements for Brazil and other countries (i.e. Romania). The reason the USA imposes requirements for many countries is because people who come from certain countries tend to overstay their visas and become illegal immigrants. With regards to Tick Tok, this is in many sense protecting our election and free trade. Just look at the EU's tarriffs on EVs from China. It is OK to make a point, but be fair.

If the US was worried about illegal immigration, they'd have just shut down the border where MILLIONS are flooding in through illegally. Aside from that, this is not the 90s, Romania has become wealthier, also Romanians can go to the EU to find jobs, no need to deal with the nonsense of US immigration or visa processes. They can take a quick flight a few thousand miles and work in other parts of Europe in wealthier countries. Also, Romania has advanced quite a bit and are becoming wealthier. Inform yourself.

In any case, the benefit of US (or EU) passport is pretty obvious - just go to Heathrow and look at the relative length of the lines. A US passport saves you at least an hour.
