This was one of the best shows today that I've watched so far, and that's saying something. I really hope that you'll have David Alexander back on again. He explains things in a way that are easy to understand.
An absolutely amazing presentation. David gave an excellent overview of an incredibly complex topic. What a brilliant way to start off Code & Codebreaking Week on WW2TV!
excellent show on Codebreaking in wwII; this is essentially an introduction course to the use of codes; call it Codebreaking 101. a terrific start to Code-breakers week on ww2tv. very clear and easy to follow, despite being a complex subject.
Fabulous presentation. Concise, informative and brilliantly explained in an easily understandable manner. Couldn't have chosen a better start to Codes and Code-breakers Week, well done.
This was just an outstanding presentation! Some much involvement by brilliant minds that helped and continue to help countries. The public service mindset they had is so admirable. Thank you David and Paul for this program. Big thumbs up on this one.
David Alexander, David O’Keefe and the other guests on you show Woody, the topic(s) gives me a better appreciation and education of Allied decisions and actions. This is spell binding stuff! Well done.
What a wonderful topic , guest, channel, bravo... thoughtful, humble, while seeking a greater understanding. Between this and Drachinifel I'm set. Thanks all
I had heard from a former boss in Japan that the Japanese military in fact did use an obscure idiomatic dialect of Japanese in a parallel to the Navaho code-talkers confident that no speakers from that village resided in US or UK. However, several villagers had emigrated to Brazil and ended up in the US by a second emigration unknown to the Japanese military. I never thought to ask any further details about the specific village(s) while I was there.
When he was talking about patterns in codes, I suddenly imagined the difficulty the Finnish military must have with these kinds of codes. Seemingly every word in Finnish has multiple double vowels. I imagine a really sharp minded and fluent reader of Finnish could decrypt any one for one cipher in seconds just by looking at the pattern of the doubled letters. I'm joking but I can picture my old Finnish friend glaring at me with a smirk because she knows I'm joking yet also knows there's some truth to it.
