Let's talk about Mikey, alright? 1. Do you even hear what he does with the tambourine? 2. He basically moved more energetic than normally, which is... weird. And scary.
@@Kaylaaisbeast Some hair/body oil types, it's actually bad to wash too often. Gerard looks like he is in that club, as I am. IIRC, for Bert...well...this WAS during one of his lowest points as far as drugs and not caring about himself, so...yeah... /I shower every other day (before freak out: my job isn't around other people, so it's fine). Only shampoo/condition once a week. If I do more, my hair is a rat-nest of split ends tangling on themselves because it's dried out from being cleaned. //Also can't shower and wash dishes on the same day. Dries my hands out (or maybe it's a 'seal' thing? no idea, but it sucks) to the point that my palms are nothing but itch for the rest of the day.
-mikey's tambourine (and his POWER STANCE as he plays it) -bert's eyeshadow and gerard's fake blood on his mouth -gerard's wearing sunglasses inside again (in the dark) -bert singing along away from his microphone during gerard's part -mikey's beanie -that one shot towards the beginning where frank and ray (?) are just standing there waiting um -when gerard does those high-pitched backup vocals -bert
*How Mikey Ended Up Playing Tambourine* : Mikey: Well, we already have a bass player... Band: Yeah, but we can't just have you not doing anything. Band: **picks up nearest musical instrument** Well uh... we've got a tambourine... Mikey: **immediately snatches tambourine away** Mikey: FUCK YEAH! TAMBOURINES ARE FUCKIN BAD ASS! Band: Uh... yeah....
I imagine it more like: Quinn: Okay I think we've got everyone. Mikey: What about me? Where's my bass? 2 vocalists, 2 drummers, 3 guitarists, why only 1 bass? Gerard: The song only really requires one bass. Mikey: We can both play the same part just doubled? Jeph: It doesn't really work like that, man. Frank: Yeah, too much low end muddies up the mix and this is being professionally recorded for TV so it needs to sound clear. Mikey: Can I play something else? Gerard, Bert and Ray: *frantically searching for something* Mikey: Hey guys I found a tambourine. Ray: But we don't have anything to mic or amplify it with. Mikey: I don't care if they can't hear me. I just want to be doing something. Bert: Oh, um....... okay sure, yeah. Mikey: Can I stand on Bob's drum riser? Bob: Remember when Frank did that on TRL? Frank: *laughing* Oh yeah, that was fucking PRICELESS Mikey: I promise I'm not gonna stand on your bass drum. Bob: Alright. But if you knock my set over I'm kicking your ass on the bus. Mikey: OKAYS *band goes on stage*
“Honey if you stay I’ll be forgiven” - Famous Last Words I’m sorry, Gerard, but even if Mikey stayed in the band, he probably never forgave you for putting him on tambourine duty in this cover.
Everytime I'm about to cry because they look like a happy family and how perfect it is, I just see Mikey and his tambourine and end up laughing. Thanks Mikes.
@@adrist4r Nah it's not a very complicated part im sure mikey would've been able to figure it out, I bet what it was is just one bass generally takes up a pretty big chunk of the mix, it probably just would've been pointless or made the low end really muddy to add another bass part. From my knowledge generally multiple guitars and higher voiced instruments play better together (especially if they're playing the same part) and you can eq them to work better in a mix than having multiple basses, I'd imagine it was probably just more trouble than it was worth to add a second bass especially in a live mix. Could've also been that because there already were 3 guitars too there really just wasn't room left for another instrument that would've taken up so much room sonically. Those would be my guesses just having listened to my music teachers talk about live band mixes a lot, I could be wrong though it seems like a pretty complicated thing and I'm not totally sure I have it all down right myself-
I'm not really a fan of of the used (not saying I dislike them, just haven't heard many songs) and I was pleasantly surprised at how great his voice is live
when Gerard, Bert, and probably Ray came up with the arrangement of everyone who played an instrument, Bert was definitely like, "Alright, Bob and Branden on drums, Ray and Quinn on guitar, with Frank of course. damn...we really only need one bassist..." Gerard: "don't worry fam Jeph can play the bass...I know what Mikey'll do..." *going on stage* Mikey: "GERARD WHERE'S MY BASS?!" Gee: "nah, come over here." *throws tambourine to Mikey* "GOOD LUCK"
Everything about this is fucking perfect. Mikey playing the tambourine with his awkward knees, Frank playing pansy, Gerard's sunglasses, him and Bert singing together, the song in general, and just how they were all like one big family on that stage.
he’s the one quiet kid with the whisper laugh that gets forgotten about and handed the job no one really wanted but then they enjoy doing it anyways (I should know, that’s how I got into singing. I may not be good at it, but my school put me in chorus one year because they lost my course request paper and didn’t tell me till after they were already assigning classes 😭)
Even though they eventually fell out, Gerard and Bert look so happy performing with each other here, and that makes me super happy and it's one of the reasons why I love this live performance so much :)
everytime I hear the "I'm sure we can find smth for u to do on stage, like maybe shake a tambourine" line from twin sized mattress by the front bottoms I think of this performance. everytime.
Leigh Peterson He accidentally smashed it. You know how Frank is. Apparently.. He smashed it through an MTV sign? Something like that. Some people also rumor that he has fixed it and its at his house or something.
Probably because the bass line is the most important part of the song cause it’s the most iconic and they would just be following the same beat so it would sound like one bassist anyway. Guitars can play the same song on different Melody’s but bass’ cannot.
I usually see a Queen cover suggestion on RU-vid and I'm like, "Here we go again... it's gonna be terrible!"; I click waiting for the sound torture starts and I'm imagining Freddie Mercury (RIP) punching the coffin lid but... holy fucking shit, it's one of the best Queen covers I've ever heard in my entire life!
I love this cover. And I love the way the video starts. The hug shared by Gerard Way and Bert McCracken is not a bro-hug. It's warmer than that and it warms my old Elder Goth heart.
Can we just talk about how awesome the sounds of two bands merging together sounds? Like you really don't see that. but it WORKS really well. Like, almost 2 of every instrument, blending together so freaking well! Its awesome to see two of my favorite bands come together. Its been years since this was done but I still love this tribute to Queen and David Bowie that they did.
KaitoKilljoy That's a rare site to see, and when it happens, it's pretty awesome. The last good one I remember was when Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer all went on stage to cover "Am I Evil?". Wish bands would do it more often.
IKR !!! I get the joke of Milkey and his tampories but this was unbelievable good like two bands doing a iconic song by two Famous people Queen and David Bowie were the highlight of our lifes and now two iconic bands of the 2000s re-masterd and cover this song You can't get any better than that am I right ?
Kerry Wentz-Way gerard: ok guys, lets get out there and rock! ray, youre on guitar! frankie, back him up! bob, you pound those drums! mikey: what about me gerard: ........fuck! ok, uhhh.... *picks up tamborine* this!
this is how i imagine it went down... gerard: "i just dont think two bassists is necessary" everyone else: *agreeing * ray: "what will mikey play then?" gerard: "i dont fuckin know" bert: *runs from the corner and trows a tambourine at mikey * "play that, its the most important part of the song, like what amazing song doesnt have tambourine?" gerard: "good idea bert" mikey: *sighs and takes the tambourine * "whatever, lets go preform"
2022, just found this a little while ago and I can't stop watching it. They both sound amazing, and Bert's scream was absolutely insane, sounds amazing live One of my favorite live performances of all time
@cutlass2523 Agreed, a year later and I'm still listening to it, this is what got me into the used and I ended up diving down the used rabbit hole and have the entire shadow believer album on my playlist aswell as a bunch of other songs
@@straben2666 I’ve been going down my own rabbit hole re my old playlists tonight! The fun thing about limewire back in the day was that you got a lot of live performances rather than studio versions. And the live recordings were always somehow better. Still trying to find the same PATD karma police live cover that I l religiously listened to 🥲
This song helped me through so much depression as a teen. 10+ years later, now 28 I'm beginning to battle depression once again. I haven't played this since high school, 2018 and still gives me encouragement to keep going through dark times
This song, well cover is really amazing! Mcr and The used has inspired and pulled out many us of that black hole ❤ I hope you feel so much better now. Stay beautiful, keep it ugly!
Keep it up! Dark times atm for everyone and we will make it :) keep thinking about the beautiful warmth of the sunshine each morning. Music will help too ^_^
Few things lol: 1. That actually sound so good!! 2. Bert legitimately looks like a member of mcr with the black and red outfit and eyeshadow and I am here for it 3. Mikey looks so sad and out of place with his tambourine, why couldn't there have just been two basses??
don’t worry, mikey way loves tambourines so im sure he was fine with it! there are lots of videos and concerts where they didn’t need a bassist for a song so he would play tambourine and have just as much fun (but with two bands on stage he didn’t have a lot of room to run and jump 😭)
same, for a few reasons one Bert always gave off a weird vibe and I never liked him, and you can obviously tell Gerard is seriously “messed up” if you know what I mean.
"Under Pressure" Pressure pushing down on me Pressing down on you, no man ask for Under pressure that burns a building down Splits a family in two Puts people on streets It's the terror of knowing What this world is about Watching some good friends Screaming, "Let me out!" Tomorrow gets me higher Pressure on people - people on streets Chippin' around, kick my brains 'round the floor These are the days - it never rains but it pours People on streets - people on streets It's the terror of knowing What this world is about Watching some good friends Screaming, "Let me out!" Tomorrow gets me higher, higher, higher... Pressure on people - people on streets Turned away from it all like a blind man Sat on a fence but it don't work Keep coming up with love but it's so slashed and torn Why, why, why? Love Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking Can't we give ourselves one more chance? Why can't we give love that one more chance? Why can't we give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love, give love?.. 'Cause love's such an old-fashioned word And love dares you to care for The people on the edge of the night And love dares you to change our way of Caring about ourselves This is our last dance This is our last dance This is ourselves Under pressure Under pressure Pressure
Awww poor mikey. ... Still he's playing that tambourine like a badass. I think it's safe to say that he is one of the only people that can play a tambourine and still look cool!
Right? Serious fomo this must've been an incredible moment to witness live. I listened to the Used album this was featured on my entire life but I only just found out about this track through spotify. WOW!
