This has been the best rendering of how dysfunctional the palace system was. How a father in name only saw his children only as pawns, his sons as threats to his rule and how he manipulated and twisted their reality, sense of safety and self worth. He constantly set traps for the people around him, to test their loyalty. The mother’s of his children, as disposable wombs. How is a child in this toxic, unsafe environment grow up not twisted , emotionally stunted, or not prepared to do whatever it took to gain the power of the throne? Even the boy was was shunned, who loved a girl did not want the throne, just a normal life with her- fell into his father’s delusions, emotionally incapable of standing up to the pressures and betraying her , pushing her away to keep her safe? He did not understand she wanted to be with him, no matter the circumstance, if they were to die, they would die at each other’s side. Time and time again, he made decisions for them, not asking her was she willing to risk. As for toxic parents, let’s talk about - the brilliant, intelligent woman who became an court official with the bitter mother who made filial duty such a guilt trip. All men are unworthy, you must never trust or love a man, your ancestors will lose their social standing among the dead if you do. This type is known as. “ the Devouring Mother”. She is ambitious, gained status, and if she married him would face opposition, and lose that status , her freedom would not be a proper daughter to her mother, guilt forever, - to become Empress, a basic figurehead with no power, compared to her power as an official. She is in an difficult inner struggle of opposing viewpoints. As we watch the years go by, the bloodshed deteriorated the bond, the “ we are so close, but he will not make love to me, he has excuses to push me away, he will not stand up to his father in this one aspect, she begins to suspect he really wants that throne after all. Forces her to an unwanted marriage to a man who had feelings for her, perhaps in the end, given her a better relationship had she given him a chance. Was it obsession , the road not taken that hooked these two hearts with painful unfulfilled claws that could not let go? I really do not know. In the end, the shunned boy obtains the throne, now finally ready to marry his love. Did he really expect after all those years, the bloodshed, excuses- marriage was a given? She could not forgive, and lied to him, than took the cowards way out in this instance by throwing herself off a mountain. No body left to bury, no closure for those left behind. Just a very “ Passive Aggressive” last sword thrust to the Heart. How childish and foolish was their love for each other in the end. They may have desired on another , but they never could like and accept each other as they were. The respect was never really there as the foundation to build on. It remained a Dream of perfection that could not withstand two not perfect people in a very imperfect world. At the start, I was hoping they would be together, however, I began to realize they hurt each other too much and for too long to ever, be 38:43 content with each other. It was a very painful series to watch but the truthfulness in the painful reality kept me watching til the end. The actors were so adept and raw in their portrayals and the script wove a story like no other. ❤❤
Wonderful comment, I think you capture the series really well, and I agree with just about everything you say ... except the part about suicide being cowardly. It's not that. Inherently selfish, yes, considering the loved ones you leave behind, but not cowardly. If it was cowardly, that would mean these people are afraid of living. That's not the case: they just don't want to live a life where they only feel pain. No one does. Zhiwei was depressed. Depressed people are mentally ill. They feel trapped, like everything is out of their control, like there is no other way to be. Waking up every day and living in constant pain ... is so brave. Deciding to end it is not cowardly. It's just a choice. They should not be shamed.
@@Vivi.Machine hi, thank you for your comments. I agree with you about suicide. My take on her last action was that she meant to hurt him, but having depression myself, you are not always thinking but reacting to a situation and the overwhelming chaos and pain. I agree now , that it was selfish rather than cowardly. I wonder at what point this relationship could have been saved and allowed to flourish? Yet, I don’t see away for that to happen. Am I too fatigued watching the twists, the plots, plot within a plot, because it was exhausting to watch, the constant chess moves of the characters and just when you thought yes, they will be together- nope. I got so invested in this saga , feelings went from happy to upset, really beginning to dislike a character I originally was rooting for, it ran the spectrum of reactions to enough dragging your feet, you fool either make your relationship public and legal or set her free, marrying her off to another man is not it. Ask her what she needs, wants from you, don’t just assume years later marriage will fix the issues you had with each other, that was so frustrating to watch. What were your reactions?
@KittymoreJoy Yes, I think you're definitely asking the right questions when you wonder at what point their relationship could have been saved (I'd argue never due to external forces). My viewing experience was very different: I watched this fully only once 6 years ago and the ending, Zhiwei's suicide, was spoiled for me before even beginning it (by a disgruntled viewer warning people not to bother watching). Going into the story with that knowledge changed the way I watched: it made me look for reasons why she would do what she ultimately did from the beginning. That was really tranformative. Signs of the tragedy were ALWAYS there unfortunately and I write about that more in a comment on the final series clip that this chanel posted here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FUw-R_LxPFg.htmlsi=GM2QSHZhvzJwSKFj However, one quote from Zhiwei's character that really stuck out to me as someone with the ending spoiled and that let me understand better, happened really early in the series. She says to Zhu Yin at the brothel, Lanxiang Court, that she envies her and the women there: they are the "freest women" in the city. Imagine that, in a society where women's freedom is so restricted by category and it is thought that the best role a woman can dream to occupy is as Empress, a woman raised in a nobleman's manor envies a courtesan. It was at that point that I knew Zhiwei was a very nontraditional, unique character, and that above all, all she wanted was her freedom and the ability to protect the people she loved. I think in that same scene she mentioned dreaming of leaving Tiansheng and traveling too. This dream of independence has no place for a man or a husband, marriage would be trap: it's why she sees the Lanxiang Court women as free. This is still naive, though, as those women are placed in a very specific rung of the caste system as courtesans that they will never be able to move out of and their whole livelihood is dependent on the whims of men. Intelligent as she was, this statement reminds me that Zhiwei's major character flaw was always her naiveté (and then, unfortunately, she was born a woman in a super patriarchal, classist society). Zhiwei is a modern woman, trapped in a society built for men, fated to love a man whose family *and* status was always going to be in opposition to her livelihood (notice how she always said to Ning Yi that if they were born again, next time they should be "ordinary people"). I like to think of this story as Romeo and Juliet but in a fictional China: doomed yet hopeful, for lovers but too tragic, and then of course incredibly classist. I still haven't worked up the nerve (and the time) to rewatch it. The first time I saw it was in the summer and I remember being heartsick for weeks later (knowing the ending ahead of time did not dull the sadness, ironically). Apparently in the original Chinese book, the story ends with the two of them faking their deaths, running away and living together (the reason behind the title's name since phoenixes are reborn at their deaths). To me, that ending is quite literally how Romeo and Juliet would have ended if not for the tragedy of the message being delivered too late. This adapted version gives us half a tragedy, and I'm still trying to decide if I think that's more realistic.
@@Vivi.Machine you have brought some excellent points so clearly. I so agree with her independent nature and all the wanting with that. They do remind me of the doomed Romeo and Juliet in a Chinese setting. The Chinese culture seemed very conflicted about intimacy and what a one on one, male-female love was. It was always viewed as a potential problem and not important as power and status. Marriage was duty, as the foundation to the country, personal joy was not. For enjoyment, visit a sex slave. Women had no such option. Misery was harmony. I sometimes wonder if there were any happy married couples? There had to be , at the very least, a few. We’re men so unhappy with no idea why, they chose war as a way to ease their frustrations? The ending in the book had a unusual twist- They got the Hell out of Dodge and lived life on their own terms. I so hoped for that and got devastated with this tragic War between two people who could have been a force unleashed in the Annals of History. It seems Human Love does have a limit to what it can Endure is what they chose. More real an ending, I suppose, but my silly Heart says otherwise. This series and the Titanic Movie - I cannot watch again, ever. So close and yet so far away from each other is just too heart-breaking. Amazing how, a fictional story can effect you. I liked the original “ Ride off into the Sunset Together”. Much better. It gave Hope that a “non traditional relationship , in your Face” to Social stupidity- Together We Stand, Hearts and Minds as One. So bring on that Hurricane. We will Survive, We will Thrive. That’s my ending I stand by because they found away to forgive each other which would have solidified their ability to be vulnerable and honest with each other, and give them strength to fight for their Love. I think that would have been a much better lesson to give us.
Muito obrigada a quem postou legendado , pois através desses clipes que conheci a série, procurei e conseguir assistir inteira legendada .Essa série é LINDA ,cenário, fotografia, enredo knteligente e interpretação de todos atores e fantástica, mas o casal é impecável com poucas e poucos gestos eles passam tanta emoção, que química ,como eles foram perfeitos .Mas não concordo final.,que vem com lição de moral que o poder corrompe .Como a Feng pode cair no golpe do irmão traficante escravo ,não tem lógica, ela sempre foi muito esperta .Como Nin caiu na armação do irmão, Toda nação precisa de pessoas tentando buscar o melhor para povo .Querer falar que as dificuldades os transformaram não verdade ,todos nós passamos por muitas dificuldades na vida ,mas pessoas que tem visão com Nin e Feng não mudam te caráter devido as dificuldades Entendo a dor de Feng Zhueing ,mas todas as pessoas que morreram por ela estavam atrás de uma loucura ,só o bebê que não tinha nome que era inocente .Todos os outros podiam exercer o livre arbítrio, não fizeram por que mesmo sendo simples estavam obcecados pelo poder .Precisamos de mais pessoas no mundo como Nin e Fen Zhueing ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I
Asdistam essa serie ,ela se chama The Rise of the Phoenixes, e perfeita ,cenariio ,fotografia ,enredo .Voce vai se apaixonar por varios personagens .Mas o casal e irei guardar com muito carinho ,pois eles sao lindos ,principalmente de alma , sao cumplices e em.poucas palavras e poucos gestos passam tanta emocao .Foram injusto em tudo ,pois nenhum deles teria caido nas armações que fizeram (tenho certeza que trocaram o roteista ), o melhor amigo de Nin poderia ter ficado magoado ,mas nunca viraria as costas para Nin Fen Zhuieng nunca cairia nessas armacoes Ela ficaria muito triste ,mas nunca abandanoria o reino que nasceu e viveu ,ela sempre acreditou nas visoes Nin .As dificuldades e batalhas da vida nao muda o nossp coracao e nosso carater Vale cada minuto Ignorem o fim ,pois vale cada minuto dessa serie ❤❤❤
