I am no stranger to this new phenomenon that is the android head unit. I have one in my wrx, and heck there should be one in the brz. This one is 200 dollars with the specs that I wanted for the brz, and the price that i liked.
This purchase is chalked full of value.
Impressions: 10/10
My initial impressions from unboxing the very fast 2 day shipping, was stellar. The packaging was double boxed and the foam they used was the high quality ones that aren't made at bubbly Styrofoam you get from cheaper products.
Everything was neatly bagged, and it was easy to figure out what goes where.
No scratches, no dings, no hassle.
Good job on the packaging.
Install: 9/10
Install was straight forward, Scosche Radio Wiring Harness for the audio and power, a few other bits for the reverse camera for the subaru brz 2016. This is a universal kit, so it's not plug and play but it was easy for me.
Display:10/10 - Great viewing angles, vibrant, bright, high resolution
Performance: 9/10 - Quad core keeps the unit feeling snappy,
Value: 10/10 - Nothing can top this
Audio Quality: 9/10 - Really wakes up your sound system if you are stock
Customer Service: 10/10 -Panlelo has great customer support. Very fast responses, and you can tell they care about their customers.
Overall 10/10
I empathizes the amount of value you get with this purchase. None of the big boys like pioneer, sony can compete with this. The unit is fast, the screen is amazing for the price you pay, everything else works great. What are you waiting for? Go get it!

I have the same one! For that car, all you need is an OBDII bluetooth scanner and the Torquepro app and you'll love the radio even more!

I had three of these type of tablet radios they are heat and cold sensitive and do not work well on quick shut off and turn back on I went to a amusement park my car set in the parking lot in the sun when I came out the screen was fried and white also the back up camera is useless until the radio boots up which takes a long time did not care for mine none of them also does not have good RCA I level output or any subwoofer controls

RazoE yes and I found if you put it in reverse before it boots up it sometimes will mess the whole thing up causes it to crash it's a good concept for the price but definitely disposable

Northwind000 you can try looking for one that's made for your car specifically. Those tend to work better than universal ones. Still, they're all the same Chinese crap. I actually like them because it does make the car look better. I have one in an 07 accord, 2011 camry and an 06 corolla. Never had any issues with any of them.

Yeah it does look better than oem/aftermarket ones. It's been about 100+ F here in sacramento and the unit still works and never had any hiccups. I'll keep you guys updated if it fails or crashes.

The screen on this seems little better IMO, than the other headunit in the your WRX,. But the WRX headunit looks cleaner in the interior. Good price on this though... tough to decide. With the upgrades to the WRX headunit might be worth it if the lag issue is resolved now.

Now if Pioneer/Kenwood can invest into Android and create a nice hu too because those big companies offer way better sound quality. Now the question I would love to know is what screen resolution do this play? 1080p? 720p? Maybe Pioneer will start producing better screen resolution playback quality if they sell andriod radios. Damn, these radio are what current aftermarket hu should be. I seriously want one! Would even pay $1500 for one right now, just want it under Pioneer/Kenwood.....So I'll wait.

they have the 8200nex.. thats a capacitive screen and a really nice one.. but its up there.. like 1k or so.. not worth it, i feel like the big co. are just dicking there customers around, they could easily build a 500 dollar unit thats amazin.. i mean i can buy an 80 dollar tablet with an amazing screen.. why not a double din? kind of bullshit if you ask me..

25 second boot time is far too long. Looks laggy to me when you swipe it. Seicane units are much smoother.

I bought this head unit after watching this video, installed it then took it back out and sent it back to Amazon and got the Pioneer for a few bucks more... It would not update Google Services so could never get the Google play store to download any apps. I think the Android operating system was out of date or something.

These are great headunits (nearly all the same,same manufacturers with only a few differences between them) they do suffer in the audio department which is where pioneer excels so that's not a fair comparison. but there are ways to fix the audio to some extent. these also have a few bugs and the developer is slow to update the firmware (if at all in some cases)

That's true, they are a lot cheaper and would agree the pioneer should sound better. However, some people prefer functions and features over a hair bit better sound. It's hard to judge sound after a certain point

john that unit looks awsome. i like the launcher that comes with the radio, it looks clean.I wonder if the Som board is the same as the one in in our units? I love mu unit especially downgrading to 4.4 made it even faster, but the 1 gb is not enough. The aduio sounds fine in the unit and probably good enough with factory speakers. I have a pretty high setup in my car and the dac doesnt cut the mustard. i had to use a usb powered dac that gave me optical out and man it sounds waaaay cleaner and louder. the preamp voltage is usually garbage, that why with the big names you pay more because higher quality preamps and dac.

Hey John! About to get my hands on a 2016 WRX Base model and the stock head unit along with speakers are trash. My goal is to keep as much of the existing features (back up camera, steering wheel controls, center console USB/AUX, etc.). the problem with these head unit is the rca outputs voltage is to low for a full amp setup you will need a line driver and the. dirty signal will be amplified as well you get what you pay for.

it's nice but it's a lot of gizmo to mess with when driving. most people have smartphones with GPS and all the other stuff as well. I bought a mechless pioneer head unit with Bluetooth, aux, USB and a simple faceplate, speaker kit with 2-6 1/2" and 2-6x9" all for $50 on clearance after Christmas. $200 is a lot for some off brand head unit with an android tablet. I'm sure it'll be fine for awhile. I've messed with that no name stuff in the past and only seen 1 cheap ass cd player last over a year. this thing I don't know about but I'd be interested to see if it lasts for very long.

the wiring is 100 percent the same for 2015 wrx harman kardon. It should be the same for 2016-2017 base/limited units too. So you are good to go!

I'm looking at how long ago you uploaded tthis video and it's been a while. How is this unit performing now? Is it worth it almost a year later? I'm looking at buying an android unit for my truck but a little hesitant on the buy cause I'm not really trusting these off brand radios. The pioneer looks great but they are expensive and don't have as many features as an android radio. I thought of putting an galaxy tab in my car back in 2013 it would have taken some serious wiring to do but it has been done. This right is way better and I want one just don't know which to get..

Input voltage isn't a huge problem anymore. An amplifier's gain is used to match the input voltage. If you have low input, you need more amplifier gain. There is the potential for noise with the gains set high, but I don't think you'll have any trouble with a 2v (max) input voltage. Sure, 4v is theoretically better since you can keep the gains lower, but this may be a non issue if the higher gain setting doesn't cause noise.

John Nguyen the gain is not a volume knob. As soon as u pass the stereos output voltage on the amp, it will clip and clipping will fry ur speakers. Maybe not right away but sooner or later.

2 volt signal vs a 4 volt signal.......2 volt out puts can clip at .5 volts(usually ran straight off the internal amp of the radio), been around car audio 30+ yrs. yet to see a 4 volt clip/distort anywhere below 2 volts. the cleaner the signal i can get the better. the gain is there to control/limit the out put to the driver/speaker/woofer as clean as possible, a 1000 watt max speaker will handle 1500 watts easily if the signal is clean and distortion/clip free. the radio/head unit is the driver not the gain on the amp. matching a 2 volt out put of a head unit that clips/distorts at .5 volts and giving that signal to an amp only amplifies the distortion/clipping of that head unit.

John Nguyen I've watched your videos and maybe you can answer my question. Does any of these head units support Sirus xm radio? The issue I have is my current oem radio has sirus xm and I really enjoy satellite radio versus radio stations. I think Sirus will operate of an app but then it will require wifi whereas if the head unit supports sirus then the signal is found by satellite? any recommendations:? Thank you so much for reading

I would have to take a look, the wiring. I believe the 2015 sti base uses the subaru style harness. 2016-2018 uses the toyota base ones, same goes for the 2015+ hk ones

This head unit is dope if you don't want to retain steering wheel controls. Everything works very well as he states in the video but the steering wheel controls do not work even with the adapter. I've tried it and got technical help but still doesn't work, shit does not read the steering wheel controls correctly. Only the steering wheel controls and adapter they provide will work and even then you gotta email them for it. They don't have it for sale. Hope this helps some of you out.

I was able to retain steering wheel control for my other car. I didn't have to buy any extra adapters or anything. Just wired the sw1 sw2 ground etc and i was good

i haven't looked into rooting. I know viper4android would really open up your sound experience. I might have to look into rooting this one. I did for my other android head unit

yeah, V4A will help a lot with the Audio experience or just Dolby Atmos will do the job :D, and need to start looking into and let you kow.

Which head unit do you recommend more? The one in your WRX? Or this one? I'm looking to get one or the other. But I'm not sure which one is better.

the price of the wrx one is now reaching around 500 dollars now. I like both units. I like how the wrx one fits flush but the screen isn't as good as the one i show here. performance is similar

I would like your feedback on the FM radio app of this unit. Does it look good ? Most of those apps on Android Head Unit are very ugly. Any thought on that? Thanks !

the fm radio works but it lacks hd radio. I still shows tags and stuff and sounds good for fm radio. i don't use fm radio ever since i got the android head units.

Kimiko mentioned the mic feature briefly at the end. Is it built into the head unit or something? Can other people hear you well when you call them through it?

the mic is on the head unit itself. I bluetooth her all the time. It's not the best but functional

Yes it does! it has many logos! The stock one Shows Panlelo, i changed mine to the subaru icon

Please make sure please....I want to buy it...it is an awesome head unit....don't want to buy it...and it won't have the Pontiac logo in the logo boot up...and then have to return it... I've been looking for ever for one with the Pontiac logo...Thank you and God bless

Its an android unit, so just download whatever screensaver you want and use that.

Yes, you would need the soche trim piece (40 bucks) , 10+6 wiring harness (10 bucks ), 28 pin wiring harness.(10 bucks)

How's adding a SIM to this head unit? Is it through a usb dongle? Also is it possible to configure it to where the hotspot is still active when the unit is asleep? I want to get a dash cam that lets me upload to the cloud, and have it using the head units hot spot.

What is the viewing angle like? I have an FG civic and the double din has a steep angle due to dash design and gets washed out screen during the day. Is the screen still visible under sunlight?
