Anne Rice had the most unique take on vampirism in my opinion. She made it sound like being one of the immortals was like being on a permanent hallucination... Stuck on psilocybin and never getting old. Getting stronger each day and finding one cure for every hunger and every need a human has. Sex.. Food... Drink.... All in the blood. God I wanted to be one when I read these books for the first time . A true genius
I love this book in particular but I have all the books in the series. When it comes to the movies, I have not been as much of a fan. The first IWAV with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt was well done but the casting of Tom as Lestat didn't quite work for me. Anyway, I waited years along with everyone else for the more recent one to air. When it finally did, I read reviews where a lot of people said that they didn't like it and they emphasized how much the show differed from the book. Since I was really into the books, I felt the show would be a disappointment so I didn't watch it ... until about a month ago. The reason I decided to watch it is because I had a conversation with someone who really liked it and recommended that I give it a chance. Let me just say, that although they took some definite liberties with the show, it still really worked, imo and I'm glad I decided to check it out. I wasn't expecting much from the actor portraying Lestat because I am hard to please when it comes to that; however, to say that Sam Reid impressed me as Lestat is an understatement! Bravo! Also, the actor who portrayed Louis was excellent. The show hooked me!! The whole cast was good. I still prefer the books and "Anne's version" but it really was well done and I am really anticipating Season 3. Bring it!!
I friggin wish!!! The ones I have posted so far are the only ones that haven't been "Blocked Worldwide" by RU-vid... I'm not gonna stop trying though. 🤞
@@danielmolloy3154thanks so much for posting these! I've read all her books starting almost 25 years ago and revisiting them after so long, brings it all back and makes me remember why I fell in love with them❤
I use to work at Recorded Books and illustrated the audiobooks for this series. Frank Muller is the narrator and was an absolute master at narration. He was much beloved and we were all heartbroken at his untimely passing. Thank you for posting this, it brought back memories. The entire series should be available for free at your local library, I highly recommend listening to the entire series.
@@freida808 every time I open Instagram I follow all these Lestat pages. It's so cool because I don't have to see any of the bad crap. Just Lestat Lestat Lestat ❤️🩸🩸
Despie having read these books a few times, the part when Lestat is describing what it was like to hear Nicoli play the violin for the first time never ceases to move me deeply. It is truly exceptional. The details. The passion. The buried emotions in Lestat that find themselves suddenly and unexpectedly allowed to surface. You feel what Lestat is describing! It's all there, a vision, an image, all composed with words alone. When he cries, I cry. Rare are the words that make you laugh out loud, or cry true tears of emotions. R.I.P. Anne Rice. Your words live on.
Anne is quite frankly the very last of the great imaginers. There is no one writing out there as talented and well rounded as Anne. She was something special
Yes and the bitch that wrote Twilight Saga and Fifty shades of grey stole everything and got famous... How she can live with herself and sleep at night is a mystery to me. I would die of shame.
She really was a fine writer. But like many authors of popular fiction, the "critics" wouldn't recognize her talent and, instead, her books were lumped into the horror genre. The dialogue, the imagery, the prose, the accessibility... all those elements come together to make her books enjoyable and great. But you won't find Ann Rice on many "best literature" lists. At the very least "Interview With a Vampire" should be included for the caliber of writing and creativity. Well, it's my personal favorite, anyway. 😊
Listening again in honor of our beloved Anne Rice. May she rest or live as she like in what’s after this life for her. With gratitude and love to you, dear author🖤🌹
Have been rereading the books after loving the new show. I love the books and the show for different reasons. But nothing beats Anne’s prose, she was a master. So glad to see her characters getting the love and attention they deserve finally and the new show is absolutely fantastic. ❤
Lestat is 100% justified in being a narcissist though. He's the only person with it that it's not a mental illness it's just who he is, and you actually admire him for it, it's inspirational.
omg - dealing with horrible vision after cataract surgery. this is just amazing...of course, the writing, but the narrative is astounding. thank everyone, dead or alive.
rest in peace anne... tvl is my all time favorite book and i will never forget reading it for the first time and the joy it brought me. i listen to this audiobook as i go to bed some nights. thank you anne for leaving us with this and the other masterpieces of the vampire chronicles. 🖤💀
Could you imagine how Lestat would react to Covid-19? He'd just be like "well all the fun places are on lockdown. Time to sleep for another few generations."
Listening to the beginning of the book makes you realize how we truly do have so much wealth and our lack of needs and wants is pretty impressive. Just having easily washed clothes is an awe inspiring thing to Lestat. I get it. I have a new approximation of things I would normally take for granted. I have never, however ever stopped recognizing how damn important a hot shower is for mental health. A hot shower gives me life, oh and soft toilet paper.
Amazing vocals. The intricate timing with each word is captivating. I was enthralled the second his voice entered my ears. It made me so sad the way he pronounced Louis de Pointe du Lac's name. Just burned my ear every time he said (Lewis) 🤯☠🙉
I've always liked lean, angular guys (even married one), like my first crush, George Harrison. David Bowie was so gifted! He wss sort of my vision of Lestat when I read these books eons ago! Whom do you imagine as Louis, and as Armand? I imagine a Stewart Granger type as Marius.
I just watched a clip of Queen of The Damned, which I did not know that movie even existed. Shortly after listening to the bit about having a concert with his book release. Really surprised Aaliyah was in it, she had such a beautiful voice. I will have to watch it, probably not as good as Pitt and Cruise.
@@jerpusmaximus It wasn't too bad, not at all. I kinda liked it, but then again I'm an old Korn fan and grew up with much of the music on the soundtrack. The Pitt & Cruise Interview With The Vampire was nothing like the book either.
And I wanted to be Gabrielle back in the day. I scowled my way through my undergradute degree in weird outfits of tights, velvet a and oddly cool brocade fitted jackets. No pics of me back then. I destroyed those I could find.
It was great to know how Lestat became the vampire he was in "The interview with the vampire". Helps you understand Lestat's bitterness of Louise's love of books and of Claudia.
@@jameshermes5576 I don’t think her comment indicates a belief otherwise? That’s a perfectly normal way to describe character changes or consistencies between books in my experience
This is so good. I can no longer count how many times I've read the first three books of the Vampire Chronicles now but it never gets old and this audiobook is a treasure for me at work. Glad I found it on RU-vid.
I love how she chose to describe the way humans look to vampire's. Movements and colors....vampire's can see those tiny subatomic particles that create everything. They can SEE the quantum world play out across human faces. How fascinating... if only human eyes could see this... everything would be so much more magical.
I listened to this audiobook on cassette tape, borrowed from the library, so so many times in the late 90s / early 00s. I'm so delighted to be here reliving those days.
Love to see the audio books here. Nice to revisit them. I'm a concert pianist/harpsichordist and had the pleasure of occasionally playing for Anne's Vampire Balls back in the day. RIP Anne.. Some of the most iconic books of all time. I'm all about the blonde vampire!
I read this outstanding series over 20 years ago. I have burned through Martin's and Tolkiens writings repeatedly of late, and this absolutely satisfies those same needs of escape when I need to detach from reality for a few hours... err.. weeks I mean!! Thank you.
Denise, Me too I read the 3 books in the early 90s. I stumbled on the first while browsing through the books in my local library. The title intrigued me. After I was done, I had my brother read it. I hadnt heard of TLOR till the movie came out, lol!
I read the first one when I finished school in 1990. I never got through the series, always got stuck in Memnoch The Devil, but I have started again. Serious need for good books in shitty 2020.
I first read this book in 93, and then as each came out. I've also spent quite a bit of time reading (and rereading) GRRM and Diana Gabaldon the past few years . Thanks to the new series, I am enjoying Anne's Vampires again.
The character’s last name is very obviously French, so why wouldn’t someone- let alone a professional audiobook narrator, whose JOB it is to figure things like that out- naturally go with the French pronunciation.
Just finished Interview with a Vampire. Hope this one will be just as good. I loved Louis as a character and how he struggles to retain his humanity. I loved his adventures with Claudia and I feel heartbroken knowing how she was based off of Rice's own daughter who passed.
@@kathlynnerodriguez3813 yes. Though I absolutely LOVE Interview With The Vampire, I had to force myself to get through it because of how stuffed with tragedy it is and how much Louis suffered. But here with Lestat, what with the utter joy and fun he had (though there were plenty of things that went wrong) the book just flew by.
Read this last year and going in for a second listen this year, just in time for Halloween. The first Rice novel I read and I'm so glad I chose this one to begin the Vampire series. In my opinion Lestat's origins are what really set the tone for the journey with the rest of the bunch. Though Louis' perspective of him was mostly bittersweet and and eventually loathsome, I still always find myself in Lestat's shoes when hearing his inner demons an sympathize with him. Frank Muller, though not having an accent with the narration really seated my love for this chapter of the series. It's difficult to hear Lestat any other way. Happy reading and I hope you enjoy this Dark Gift ;--;
Beauty of it.. is reading this first.. doesn't hurt or damage any of the actual story.. when I first read this.. I read Interview right afterwards.. then Lestat again.. knowing what he held back .. is powerful.. what his eyes have seen.. the Power He Held... He was my Comic Book Anti Hero...
I think I also read "The Vampire Lestat" in 2002. This book really took me into the literary world of "The Vampire Chronicles". These stories took me into a world of art and physical asthetics which I once ignored in this life.
I stumbled over this yesterday and I am in love. Both with the writing, the way Lestat tells the story, how all of this is wesved together...what a blessing to have this on youtube. Thank you so so much. ❤
💯!!! This is Lestat's version, in Lestat's words. The prologue was ingenious having Lestat address the "reader." Lestat as Anne has written him in this second book is much more interesting than in the first book, IWAV. He has more levels, depth, idiosyncrasies. He has an uncanny realness. There was an interview of Anne regarding the writing of this book that I saw once on RU-vid where she spoke about kind of channeling him. I think she said it was as though he spoke to her during the writing and said that she wasn't depicting him correctly and so to let him do it. Let him tell her who he is. It was something like that. Well, it would seem that he was right. I never cared for Lestat in Louis' version in book 1. I didn't like him, although I liked the book very much. But in this second book, as "he tells" his story and who he is, you see the depth of his character and the interesting aspects of his personality shows. He is, as they say, quite the character. Lol
Thank you so much for sharing these audiobooks. I read these as a "tender teenager" in the 1990s, and they forever made an impact on my life. It's good to hear Frank Muller reading them. Many, many thanks. 🙏🏻❤️
I read these books near 30yrs ago, I'm just starting the 2nd part, I felt that it dragged on abit, on about nothing relevant, yet I couldnt stop listening, I was up all night last night listening to it, and looks like the same tonight, it's bringing back alot of memories, well here we go 1984, MTV and Top of the pops were all the singers used to just mime, There's been a big change in how writers today write about vampires the changes as in like how vampires can come out and about in the sun etc, these books are like a drug, u can get hooked on them, all in all fantastic writing, as good today as it was 30yrs ago, R,I,P. Anne Rice, 💚💚💚💚💚💚
In Interview With a Vampire, he calls him Louis american style, but he really chops up his last name! Doo-pon-dill-lick is how he pronounces it. Like nails on a chalkboard!!!
When he pronounces Louie “Lewis” it kills it for me. There is another version narrated by Simon Vance that I got on audible that I prefer. Have you heard that one?
Oh my days I’ve neglected my dog, the kids snacks, I set up the hand held speaker I’ve been carrying it around like a boom box all day long, I’ve ignored my studies while the kids are at school…….. the joy of living in the 21st century technology rules for me this week¡ I’m immersed, thanks Anne Rice.
Listening to Lestat’s account of his transfiguration, how he felt and thought, it makes me imagine that this is an account of possession by a demon that isn’t the usual torment we expect, but rather the incredible pleasures that the demon feels. To have a body to feed with exquisite blood, and to see, hear and move far beyond human capabilities. If indeed there is something of the demon Amel in Lestat from the Blood.
It's been a long time since I have read this novel. I love the person reading it, he sounds like Lestat- sarcastic and cynical. Thanks 😊! He should read A Song of Ice Fire 🔥!
From what I've learned, unfortunately Frank Muller has passed away. He has narrated tons of other horror books though. I definitely plan on listening to him more.
The first book I read in this series was Pandora. It was great. My aunt gifted me Blood and Gold shortly after I read Pandora, and that book is my favorite. The entire chronicles are amazing. Anne Rice was one of the best! As great as Lestat's story is, Marius is still my favorite character. Great book, and awesome reading. Thank you.
Just read Blood and Gold, and Pandora, after reading the first 6 or 7 books a while ago, and I hope they get to their chronicles and ancient Rome/Constantinople, Alexandria.
@j_ke the Egyptian history would be good too. Blood and gold goes over some of it because Marious took all their scrolls when the queen had him take her away. Armond's history is also told in that book as well as his book. They are all great reads. I would like to get more from the Egyptian past though too.
You're quite welcome friend. Audio Jack on YT also has these masterpieces uploaded to his channel but, the audio levels were quite low so I enhanced them a bit. It's now perfect for mortal ears on any device. Stay healthy!
Thank you! I couldn't find it without a subscription. I own all the books but audio is helpful so I can listen and get chores done. After her passing I've been looking to go through them again
I have read the whole series from the first book all the way to the end, Ann was just getting ready to bring LeStat back out, and sadly she left us, I can only wonder what the "Brat" vampire was going to get into next.....I am loving listening to someone else read to me...What a voice
Listen to The first law series if you haven't already, Joe Abercrombie is the best narrator I've ever heard. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8cWP1lAxK8M.html
I get off work and find myself wanting to keep listening. I have to force myself to wait until tomorrow. I began with the interview and learned this lesson. Wait for it
This is literally, hands down, the BEST reading of this novel. I feel everything and see everything so clearly. The intonation, the pacing - I'm hanging on every word. So excellent. Apparently "Daniel Molloy" stopped doing Anne's vampire novels and I wish he hadn't!
It is my comfort book. It is my fav. Book of all time. If I ever win the lottery the only thing I would want is that beautiful old house in the garden district that Ann used to live in and the book was based around.
I was pretty pissed off when X-Files got taken off Amazon prime I was on season five When they took it I didn’t know I could get so upset over a show that’s 20 years old
Love this series, thanks for uploading it. That being said, the first chapter where he describes 1984 is a right laugh, I know it's coming from the perspective of a centuries old vampire but 1984 was nowhere near as innocent as Anne/Lestat saw it.
I recently watched the movie and had to find the books. Thanks for uploading❤ Honestly Louis never understood Lestat in the first book and it's sad. I hope they end up together again lol
Still surprised that after all these years a movie adaptation of this book has not been made. I thought Tom Cruise was going to reprise his role after doing Interview with the Vampire. Never happened.
