I will teach you the differences between the Spanish verbs "saber" and "conocer." These two verbs will help you perfect your Spanish because you will know when to use "saber" to know, and conocer, to know again. Stop making mistakes and let Ana banana help you to understand Spanish language forever. in English you say, I know Pedro and I know what is in the exam. Ahhhhhh, but in Spanish we use different verbs to say each sentence. Do you know why? Well, I will teach you if you watch my videos to learn Spanish. Sí, claro, cómo no, Ana. I am not joking, it is true because I am cool as a cucumber[-.-]

Your channel is my favourite! My mother tongue is French and the verb ''to know'' is basically the same in French, we have ''savoir'' and ''connaître'' and we use them the same way as you do in Spanish. Thank you for your amazing lessons, I'm learning so much more with your videos than I do in my Spanish classes :)

Are used as the direct objects of verbs, and Only with masculine object. Lo its singular and Los its plural. Examples: Haz visto esa pelicula? - Si, lo he visto. Have you seen that movie? - Yes, I saw it. Conoces a esta persona? - Si lo conozco. You know this person? - Yes, I know him. Note: masculine words are those that most of them ends with L, O, N, E, R, S.

"Pelicula" is feminine, so we use «la» «sí, la he visto» and another thing «Haz» is an imperative, is the verb «Hacer» and «Has» is the verb «haber» so you have to say «¿Has visto la pelicula?» «has comido» «haz la tarea» «haz la comida»

Laura Taylor you can add (me te se lo la nos os y se) on to a verb or before. por ejemplo: Papá está bebiéndolo O Papá lo está bebiendo. but the "lo" has to be referring to a masculine word (vino) and same would go for "la" but a feminine word. just remember if added to verb make sure you put an accent either over the "e" or "a" depending on syllables.

Maybe you mean the neuter article: lo fácil, lo rápido, lo mejor: the easy thing, the fast thing, the best thing. In these cases gender and number of the subject or object has not to be considered, Lo mejor es lo caro. Lo mejor (para pintar) son las pinturas acrílicas Lo mejor (para pintar) es la pintura acrílica La pintura plástica es lo peor. although the adjectives are used in masculine singular. These are used when speaking about a particular subject, when you do not want to use a particular noun, but it can be guessed from the context if necessary. This is different from lo as direct object pronoun, which is what they have already explained.

Why is the first sentence "Yo conozco Bogotá" but in the second you say "Yo conozco A Gollum"? Why do you use the preposition "a" only in the second sentence?
@ButterflySpanish
@ButterflySpanish 9 лет назад
PazEr Excellent question :) It is because I am talking about a person. When you are going to introduce a person or an animal you have to add the preposition a. If the object is not a person or an animal (animated object) you shall not use the personal a. Is this clear? I will do a video with this topic when I talk about direct an indirect objects :) Saludos

In summary, “saber” refers to basic knowledge by meaning “to know” while “conocer” means familiarity. Think of “conocer” as if that verb is similar to “connection” in English. You can’t be familiar with someone or something without a connection!

Interesting fact: we actually have the same thing in English. "Ken" means to be familiar with something. It's fallen out of use in most of the English speaking world, and those who still use it tend to use it wrong. Scots, for instance, use it in place of "understand".

As children, we don't learn grammar before we learn to speak. Why is there so much emphasis on teaching grammar to non Spanish speaking adults when we truly just want to learn to speak (in broken Spanish) just like our Spanish speaking counterparts who struggle with English. We don't correct their grammar and we STILL understand them.

We have multiple words for "To know" for example. "Familiar" and "Acquainted", The thing is, is that we don't use them as much as the word "Know". Conocer is more like "Familiar or Acquainted. For an example. "I'm antiquated with Pablo."- "Conozco a Pablo" "I know the Rosetta method" - " I'm familiar with the Rosetta Stone Method" When we say we "know" someone, we should say we are "Acquainted with"

I came across this lesson by accident. At first I thought it was going to be teaching 'conocer y saber' in a very sterile, uninteresting way. Ana, la profesora, is excellent and very funny: humour helps make the seriousness of learning a good experience. I speak Welsh. We have the same in Welsh. Saber = Gwybod. Conocer = Adnabod (usually shortened to 'Nabod). So, I understand the concept. I have been learning Spanish for 5 weeks in a Spanish academy here in Cardiff, Wales. I use the internet to consolidate learning. I've come across some very helpful sites, I must say, and. I'm glad I stumbled on Butterfly Spanish! ¡Muchisimas gracias por una lección informativa y divertida, Ana! Volveré en cuanto pueda.

Dear Ana, Why do many maestros de espanol typically use a "masculine inflection" (not sure how else to describe it) of their voice when describing the vos conjugation of a verb (~eis por ejemplo)? It almost comes across as a disdain of the Spanish dialect of the language. What's up with that? Muchisimas gracias,Max

Sort of like the difference between to know & to know of... A person can know of Germany being in Europe, but they don't know Germany because they are not familiar with the place, the people, nor how to get there. However, to be familiar with someone or something as in - to know someone or something well, could be a fact for person or group A, but not for person or group B. Therefore, it to me is like 1 verb represents more concrete knowledge, and ability. While the other is more of an example of being aware or unaware, knowledge of, but not familiar with (a person, thing, or place). German also has 2 verbs to express 'to know '; occasionally a 3rd verb is used to express 'to know ' but more like - to have the ability to (the know how), similar to saber in Spanish, but takes it 1 step further I think.

Two other sets of verbs that seem to be used interchangeably but have different meanings in English are: Oir (to hear) and (to listen) escuchar, and pensar (to think) and creer (to believe). Are they truly synonyms in Spanish? Or, should they be used contextually?

Is it safe to say that for the most part, if it's followed by a noun, it's CONOCER, but if it's followed by a verb or que/quién/cual/etc it's SABER?

Your examples say, "Yo sé cocinar/hacer/llegar" - literally "I know to cook/make/get to". But sometimes I heard you use the word "cómo" in there. Is it correct either way to say "yo sé cocinar" or "yo sé cómo cocinar"? "Yo sé llegar" or "yo sé cómo llegar"?

15:11 Your friend adds "como" how, "no se como llegar al aeropuerto" but you don't use it in the examples that you say. Is adding "como" optional or maybe just used for emphasis, or perhaps only in the negative?

Hola Ana, buena explicación pero el problema es que puede decirse: "Yo se llegar al aeropuerto de Las Vegas" y "yo conozco como llegar al aeropuerto de Las Vegas" y ambas expresiones significan lo mismo. No sabría explicar esta circunstancia de porque el uso del "como" adverbial permite esta equivalencia, no se tanta gramática, y menos en inglés, quizás podrías aclararlo. Un saludo

Hello Anna, when you say "Yo conozco muy bien la cocina mexicana." isn't it a knowledge then why don't you use SABER instead of conocer ? a bit confused! Gracias.

The last thing Ana says is "Me gustaria hablar con todos ustedes y ensenarles mas espanol." Words like ensenarles alway screw me up because they aren't a conjugated form. I think they are called an inclitic form where you have the word ensenar and les is added to the the end to make it mean "teach them" or it could be te added to the end for "teach you." Ana said, "I would like to talk to all of you and teach you more Spanish." "

You have to know that you make me happy when I learn Spanish, and you will be a great teacher, you may don't find time to reply to me, but I know you will be happy when you read it. However, I have a question: why does you used the word airport in two different genders ?

You are a good teacher I enjoy each one of your videos. Could you one day explain where does the noun/verb or adjective originate from like el concentrado the noun or the adjective concentrado/a or the infinitive concentrar . Where does the base word to start the verb/noun or adjective originate from to make the whole grammar part..
