Oh Carrie. None of us ‘let’ ourselves be manipulated. The way manipulation works is we don’t realise it is happening. And loving someone and trusting the person we love can only be seen as a bad thing when THEY turn out to have treated us badly.

You can be manipulated and know exactly what's happening in the moment. Most frustrating feeling in the world.

I love the idea of looking back on our lives and seeing the regenerations of ourselves. I think it gives us so much more freedom to grow and change, and at the same time, look back on our past selves with kindness more than judgment. This is something I’ve been struggling with, so I want to thank you for introducing this idea!

I love this video and feel it so much. I'm 24 and I feel like the formative years in my early twenties were taken away because of covid and I'm only now starting to think about who I am as a person and getting the help that I need to become that person. I'm sure others would also agree that we can see the changes you've made in the last year and see how happy you've become.

I started watching your videos back in 2016 when I was about 14 or 15. I really needed a big sister figure in my life and you welcomed me in as my "internet big sister". I'm about to turn 22 and I can also say that right now this is my favourite version of myself. I'm really happy to hear the joy you've found in embracing yourself. In two months I will turn 30, and I've been here since the whole time since I was 19 or 20. It's so nice for you to do that and be gentle to yourself and share with us about your past versions. I am so judgemental with myself because during all my 20s I felt really lost and vulnerable to people who end out hurting me.

This was such a great video! It has me thinking of all the regenerations I've been through while watching you go through yours. What sticks with me is how you said this version is your favorite version of yourself. I think this might be my favorite version of myself, too. Knowing I'm bound to regenerate again in a few years or so makes me want to cherish and take care of this version of me as much as possible because our time together is so short.

Pretty wild to hear your takeaways from all of these eras! I've been a viewer during all of them, but I wasn't exposed to most of the news stories, so I didn't have much context apart from what you put forth on RU-vid. I can say that, from the beginning, you've ALWAYS been a person that I have incredible admiration for. I remember learning a lot about myself as a 12- or 13-year-old from hearing your 20-year-old wisdom. And I've always been impressed and excited by your transformations as you matured as an individual. Thrilled to hear that you're truly doing well! If the past decade is any indication, you'll always have a fan in me.

This just made me think about how different I am to me about a month ago which is crazy as it’s such a short amount of time to become such a different person to who i was before!! It’s always hard to look back on the past, but this video definitely helps so much to show how it’s normal and acceptable to become a new person and just think back to different versions of yourself without feeling bad or maybe even guilty in a way. I really enjoyed this video and i actually can’t wait to see what the future brings for you and others and how much everyone changes in such a short amount of time

That’s such a cool way of reflecting! I love the idea and it works so wonderfully. The ability to look back on your past with less judgement and more sympathy is such an important thing I think, to acknowledge that you did the best with the knowledge you had - something I still struggle to do 😅 Also it’s so evident in the way you just came into your full sparkle at the end of the video just how happy you are and it’s beautiful to see!

Carrie I adored this video! Listening to you talk about the different versions of yourself really resonated with me today. I’m 26 and going though some big changes in my career, something I thought would look entirely different a few years ago. I’ve learned from my past self to not listen too much to others opinions of what I should be doing with my life, I spent so long hung up on that and ended up feeling hugely unfulfilled. Hearing you speak about your past self with such kindness has encouraged me to do the same. Thank you! ❤

It's quite amazing to see how much we learn, grow and change over years. I have been learning to look at the old versions of myself with more kindness, and actually accept that I am who I am today because of all the rights and wrongs, good and bad things that have happened to me. Those things don't define me, but they brought me here. Therapy has been helping me so much through these times of change. It is really a blessing to be able to put things in perspective and respect our own journey. Also, I felt very nostalgic watching you talk about all your old versions hahaha I've been watching your videos for 10 years, and it got me thinking about how much you've changed but also how I've changed over these 10 years. I really appreciate you making this video and hopefully we can all strive to being the best versions of ourselves that we are accepting of xxx

This was a really reassuring video to watch and I’m so happy you’re at a place in your life right now where you’re happy and like who you are! I’ve just turned 24! I turned 21 the week before lockdown started so my whole year of growth and change was snatched away from me and I ended up in a position that kind of ended of breaking me! I feel like I’m slowly healing from it, I’ve found a new path I’m just starting to tread down and I’ve found a way to help me express the depth of what my head is throwing at me but baby steps. It’s nice to see from someone I admire that things do get better and that eventually we can look back and learn from these past versions of ourselves! Thank you for thsi Carrie ❤️❤️

I've watched your channel for about a decade now and seeing you grow into the wonderful person you are today has been incredible. I've never thought of my life in this regeneration sort of way but maybe that's something I start doing. The last few years have been tough to say the least. Not only did lockdown isolate me physically, but emotionally and mentally too. I lost all confidence in myself and my abilities (not that I had much in the first place). This year has already been a fresh start for me. I graduated with a distinction in my masters degree and have recently started a new job that I'm so passionate about. The new environment has given me a new sense of purpose and confidence and I feel the most like myself that I ever have done. Thank you for being a part of my journey, even if you arent aware of it ❤

As someone who has watched you from literally your first RU-vid video, watching you grow as a person has been a pure pleasure. You deserve all of the success you've had both professionally and personally. You've grown into a strong, talented woman but, most importantly, you've always remained grounded and kind. It's true that we only really know the you that you've shared but you've done a great job at allowing yourself to grow and change and be willing to leave behind the things that don't serve you. The fine line you've had to walk of remaining personable but setting boundaries is incredibly difficult. You've done well.

It's also incredibly possible to be self-aware, recognizing there are things that aren't perfect about yourself and actively working on yourself, AND still love who you are. It's sad that your self-love has to be justified/explained. Loving yourself doesn't mean you think you're perfect, but you're right in thinking some people will interpret it that way. I've been a viewer since very nearly the beginning and I've grown alongside you (on my own journey, obviously) and I just have to say I'm incredibly proud to see how far you've come. Wow Carrie, it's so interesting to listen and hear your experiences and know that you've gone through all that and still tried to be the best version of yourself at each point. I know for a fact that I am a completely different person now to who I was when I was 18-21 years old and that's ok, because I like who I am right now and feel I can be more of who I want to be. Somethings I have done slowly and thought about for a long time and others I've just gone f it let's do it. Everyone is different and has their own boundaries and hurdles to cross when they feel ready and that is perfectly OK. It really can take its toll on you both physically and mentally when you are your in a bad situation or time and just by stepping away and viewing it from different angles you realise how to make you, you again or a better version of you. I love that your word of the year is embrace and that you've embracing every version of yourself and enjoying yourself while you do. I wish you luck on your journey of exploring and embrace the versions of you. Xxx ❤

Carrie, thanks for sharing your journey. One of the reasons I watch your videos is because I always wanted to be a musical theatre performer and it never happened, so I kind of like to see the behind-the-scenes of what it would be like. At 45, one of the things you said at the end about how you're really now at a place where you've taken certain parts of your previous selves and come to a version that you really like - I think that's a journey everyone goes through in some way or another and it can't be done without living and growing up. The reason you love yourself now, is because you learned lots of things from those other versions of you. The details are different for everyone, but we all sort of grow up and go "Oh. Wow. I had no CLUE when I was a kid." LOL Thanks for sharing your lives with us.

This is so peculiar to watch knowing that I’ve been here with you every step of the way. I was there at the beginning, I remember “boys in books are better”. I have a signed copy of “All I Know Now”. I remember you moving into your flat, I remember you on each tour that you went on. It’s so surreal to realize I remember each of these “regenerations” of you, that I was there with you and loved each one of them. I feel like I’ve grown up with you, and have seen you mature and grow into the wonderful person you are now. While you may view certain parts of your life with distain or pity, just know that there’s someone out there that loved each and every one of them, and will continue to do so. You are a wonderful person Carrie, and I’m so thrilled to be here for whatever your journey may bring.

I think your 20's are something that are not talked about enough in life, you have such a preferred outlook on life that you try to do whatever you believe to be right, but at such a young age, you haven't had the experiences yourself to be able to make the right judgement. I'm only 23 and still there are so many things that seem so unclear and you take it out on yourself so much for not living up to standards of where you should be by that age and its not fair! I've been watching you since 2012 and its honestly been such an amazing time watching you grow and develop into such an amazing person, keep doing what you're doing, you deserve it all❤

This is the perfect video to sit down with a cup of tea and watch. I went through some shitty things between 25-30 and it wasn’t until I went to therapy that it was all made clear it was a build up of things I had gone through between the ages of 17-24. I found this so relatable. 😊

For whatever reason, the idea of being different people at different points in your life always gave me anxiety. Like moving forward with my life and growing up felt like a betrayal to my younger self and was preventing me from fully living my life, so I started thinking of growing and changing in terms of layers. The youngest version of myself is the first layer and all the layers after that are just additions. All the ways we act at different stages in our lives are all based on the layers that came first, whether we’re at a “good” or “bad” stage in our life. Thinking of it this way keeps me feeling whole, rather than worrying about losing a version of myself. I wanted to share incase anyone else relates to that feeling.

Such a lovely video, was quite comforting seeeing that your close group of friends came in your mid twenties as I’m currently at college and although I’ve got some lovely people it’s not a group of people I could easily turn to and it’s nice to know that at this age you don’t have to have everything sorted out just yet. ❤

Really interesting and thought provoking, Carrie. And good on you for being able to look back without giving across any sense of bitterness - just acceptance and openness to learn more which I’m sure is a point that’s taken a lot of work to get to. The key to happiness for sure, as well as the amazing people you’ve found along the way. You become so sparkly in the last couple of minutes talking about where you are today, just lovely. x

It was interesting to hear all of this, but I was particularly interested to hear you talk about that first stage all these years later. I was there for it all and it rocked the viewership and I can't even begin to imagine how it impacted you in the thick of things. It was genuinely horrible and I'm sure it's been hard to deal with. I'm sorry to hear you were harassed by the media over it too when it had nothing to do with you. So good to watch you grow and change over the years and come into yourself :) xx

Turning 30 is great. I spent my 20s essentially waiting for it. Now I'm here it's a huge relief. Not to say I'm not going to stress, make mistakes and learn lessons in the future, but the 20s held so much of that at its core that I feel my 30s can relax a little. I've enjoyed growing up with you 😊

What a beautiful message to share with us, your viewers. While Covid is an incredibly negative thing, I really love that you've engaged with that period of time in a rather positive way as a moment of reflection. Lockdown was most certainly a time to be reflective whether internally or externally, as we navigated the horror wreaked by a global pandemic. So many of us in a place of privilege were able to use that time to reflect on our lives and the value of that time is irreplaceable. It's so cool to see you discuss that time of reflection and how it changed you as a person. I've watched your videos for years and have always admired your honesty and grace as you move through both difficult and joyous periods in your life. Thank you for being a wonderful role model to a young woman in the US still finding herself and her own path! I think of your videos often, and they're a constant reminder to approach life with kindness and empathy.

@@Carrie I know it’s hard for us to feel like our feelings can be less important than other people who may have had a more horrendous time, but our feelings are valid and everything is subjective. I can’t begin to imagine how horrible some of these things were for you. This video is an amazing way to look back and see just how much you’ve grown and how far you’ve come! I constantly look for reassurance and validation from other people and although I’ve not seen a therapist, hearing you, as someone I admire talk about similar feelings and your experiences makes me feel understood. ♥️ xx

I'm 22, and I'm only just now starting to reach the tipping point of being excited for the future and the maturity I hope to develop into, instead of looking backwards towards high school, and the person I was when I was 17. I'm still scared of changing, but there is some genuine excitement mixed in there as well. The postgrad blues are slowly turning pink...

This video gave me a lot of feelings. I'm 28, and used to watch all of your videos when we were teenagers/early 20s; you were (are) a bit older than me, but only a bit, and I really loved hearing your thoughts and feelings on things. 'When did you become the version of yourself that you feel like you are now' is one of my favourite questions to ask people, and has been for a while (I've heard a lot of good answers), so of course I watched this video despite not being as hooked on youtube any more. I have no right to comment on your life, as we have WILDLY different experiences, but I just wanted to say 1) I always hugely admired how you seemed to be coping with things - I didn't know the half of what was going on e.g. f**cked up written abuse, but even just the theatre life and fame seem like such an emotional rollercoaster. I know you get to choose what you present to the world on your channel, but how insightful and kind your thoughts often are is super lovely. Not in a like 'she's so perfect' way, but in a 'this person who in some ways is quite similar to me seems like a really good soul, and maybe I can be like that too' way. I sometimes think about my past self, and I don't usually have much judgement, although of course there are things I'm particularly proud / not proud of - I usually just want to hug her and tell her she's trying really hard and doing the best she can. You had to deal with many more complex issues than I did; all I'm trying to say is that it sounds really rough, I'm sorry, and you're wonderful. 2) I'm so glad you're feeling so good about things now

Carrie, recently the filmed version of your appearance in Les Miserable debuted on the silver screen as a Fathom Events presentation at theaters here in the United States.... To me, hearing your name heralded in the promotional advertisements (TV commercials) as one of the performers, after watching you and your exes' videos for over a decade, to me that ad spot confirmed you're officially a celebrity in your own right. I cheered when I saw that a few weeks ago!!
