In this video, Professor Fink describes the functional structures of the Vertebral Column and Rib Cage. The basic structure of vertebrae is described, including the Vertebral Arch, Vertebral Foramen & Intervertebral Foramina. The regions of the Vertebral Column are described, including how to differentiate between Cervical, Thoracic & Lumbar Vertebrae, as well as the Sacrum and Coccyx. Professor Fink also describes the Primary (posteriorly convex) and Secondary Curvatures (posteriorly concave) as well the abnormal curvatures (including Scoliosis, Kyphosis & Lordosis). Reference is made to a laminectomy, the Atlas (C-1), the Axis (C-2) and C-7 (vertebra prominens). This is followed by a description of the 3 parts of the Sternum (Manubrium, Body & Xiphoid Process), as well as the 3 types of Ribs (vertebral-sternal, vertebral-chondral & vertebral ribs).
