I don't think many writers could think of new ways to get longevity out of a character, but Coogan does it brilliantly with Partridge. I don't even think the genius of Gervais could bring David Brent back with the same success. Classic comedy!
@JBrown_Trivium
@JBrown_Trivium Год назад
Agree. Love the office and gervais, but everything Ricky's done without merchant has been below par
@dg8620
@dg8620 11 месяцев назад
I think Gervais, Coogan and Atkinson are each at that level. As far as the actual characters go (Partridge, Brent, Bean), they have depth in that order, but the comedian genius behind each are essentially level.
@deepzepp4176
@deepzepp4176 8 месяцев назад
@@dg8620 You’re pushing it by including Bean. One of the most insufferable comedy creations inflicted on the world.
@dg8620
@dg8620 8 месяцев назад
@@deepzepp4176 I don't know how well it aged, and the movies were awful, but at its time it was really revolutionary. Atkinson has always been a magician with breaking comedy down to the mannerism more than the dialogue, and Bean was the extreme case of that. His Blackadder pronunciation of "Bob" is another example of that, or various sketches in his two man Live shows with Angus Deayton
@deepzepp4176
@deepzepp4176 8 месяцев назад
@@dg8620 I agree, but for me Edmond Blackadder is a far better example as opposed to Bean. As you say, the pronunciation of “Bob” and the sarcastic lines are superbly delivered. I agree with you that only Atkinson could play the role of Bean. I just don’t think the character is on par, with Blackadder, Partridge or Brent.
