I don't agree with their review of Krusteaz mix. They claim it's inconsistent and sometimes too tough. The secret is THE LET IT SIT AT ROOM TEMPERATURE AFTER MIXING. It will rise. Do not mix again when you place it on the griddle. Just take a scoop and place on griddle. Spread it out if necessary. It will be so light, you'll have to put an anchor on it to keep in on the plate.
Hungry Jack Complete is the best of the "just add water" varieties, better than most of the "add eggs, oil, and milk" style mixes. Of course, there is also home-made (flour, sugar, salt, buttermilk, eggs, oil, a splash of vanilla if you hanker for it, baking powder and baking soda, and yes, both baking powder and baking soda are essential to give the best fluffy result). The dry ingredients can be mixed up to a week in advance and stored refrigerated in a sealed jar or air-tight plastic (horrors!) bag. The home-made, properly proportioned, is the best tasting as well as the least expensive.
I grew up on Hungry Jack and Aunt Jamima. But, a few years ago I discovered Jiffy Complete Pancake Mix and it blows both of them out of the park! Jiffy has the best cornbread mix so it stands to reason that they make a great pancake mix. You guys really need to try Jiffy and reevaluate this list.
Thank you for standing up for Jiffy. In the vid, I was waiting for them to be shown. But, not mentioned at all?! Personally, Jiffy is my go-to for baking mixes. And, as you stated, the cornbread mix is the best!😊
Here, here. I agree! I have one if you want different. I mix 50/50 jiffy corn bread and Golden malted flour. I am 67yr old and I was quite surprised. I used our new waffle maker. Best waffle I ever had!
People (including me sometimes) pack the mix into the measuring cup instead of pouring it into the measuring cups and scraping off the excess. Too much mix results in batter that's too thick.
1 cup buttermilk, 1 cup flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 cup boiling water with 1 teaspoon baking soda and you have perfect pancakes! Add 1 egg for perfect waffles!
My friend who is a powerlifter and personal trainer who co-owns a massive gym somewhere on the East Coast often raves about Kodiak and states the importance of it's high protein content. I hope I can find it in the UK.
My daughter turned me on to Kodiak power cakes and now it is all I use. The pancakes turn out so beautiful and are so delicious and as a bonus they are good for you. Imagine that.
@@richardbambenek2601 They are so delicious. My favorite is the whole wheat and honey and then I also love the cinnamon oat. I think I might make me some tomorrow 😋
Okay, these are friggin' pancakes. I repeat pancakes. They don't have to be high-end as your gonna dump syrup on them. Preferably with a couple fried eggs in between cakes with bacon or sausage on the side. Call me simple but I'm a '60s-'70 welfare kid and this was the highlight of our life when the weekend came. Every now and then we got lucky and were treated to a fine dining restaurant that had more than one syrup option. You may have heard of it, it's called IHOP.
@Yourfather1372 I was a child and it was not my choice. My mother had to work two jobs so we kids had to fend for ourselves. One of the first things I learned to make was Bisquick pancakes with the obligatory Aunt Jamima. On a rare occasion, we may have had bacon (Granted it may have been burnt until I got it down. But syrup makes everything better.).
@Yourfather1372 So, as a young mother of three young children you got to do what you have to do to survive. I had to go to the store with food stamps that basically barely covered us. Ate a lot of friggin' beans and PJs. I won't apologize for my circumstances as a child as I had nothing to do with it. If you want to be judgmental so be it, but I'm proud to say that I and my wife of 33 years raised 3- grown kids, and all though there were tough times financially we never too welfare. I also served my country as a Marine and later as a cop and retired.
@@j.a.3104 I was was glad to do it. Some of the greatest meals I've had was at the senior citizen's home. They loved having us young cops pop by for lunch or dinner. Compared to some of their life stories I pale in comparison. Just a funny aside. My grandmother loved Mexican food but hated beans and when I was an adult I finally asked her why? She explained that as a kid during the depression that's all they had to eat. Her family also relocated from Texas to California during the depression in a covered wagon. When I got older I found it was true it was a covered wagon but pulled by a car. I felt lied to.
I have tried Krusteaz brand blue box complete. I was so surprised. Fluffy and moist. What I learned read directions. Don't over mix and let sit for 1-2 minutes. Which I never have. It's best to be patience.
Being a single male that cooks for himself I had always used Hungry Jacks, the stuff you add the egg and milk to. I did not like the complete kind that you add water to, it just tasted plain. I tried a few different brands but they were all the same to me. Then a couple years ago I figured out I could make better tasting pancakes from scratch and haven't bought a boxed mix since.
2 eggs, 2 cups of self raising flour, 1 cup of milk, pinch of salt. Beat all ingredients well. Pour some batter into sizzling butter. Cook for about 30 seconds. Flip. Cook for another few seconds. Freshly made homemade American pancake done (British crumpet) or you can get in car, drive for a while, using fuel, wear and tear on your car, try and find a parking spot, it could be raining, snowing (need I go on?)
Don't forget the vanilla extract, light brown sugar, and butter. I put everything in a blender to put air in the mix and make it easier to pour on the griddle
Krusteaz. Never had a problem with it. Even makes halfway reasonable waffles if you're in a hurry. I fluff up an extra egg white and incorporate it for waffles.
This farce of a comparison video is totally wrong. Bisquick and Jiffy are the tops. Hungry Jack and Aunt Jemima are a close second, however, I'm not supporting "Pearl Milling" until they put Aunt Jemima back on the products.
Okay, I am only on the second mix ranking and I already have an issue. The video says that an issue with Bisquick is that the mix contains milk and eggs but like, those ingredients are kind of needed, in most cases at least, to make pancakes. If you're allergic, just make your own allergy-friendly pancakes.
I want a mix to which oil and egg, and perhaps milk are added but Bisquick, that used to make a fluffy pancake, now just makes leaden hockey pucks --yuck!
A lot of mixes, many have get to be tried. Krusteaz I found to be the best tasting. Maybe useing whole milk instead of water in the batter mix is what makes the differance.
Red Eagle is the best box pancake mix I've found. Krusteaz is too sweet, and my alltime favorite is my recipe using flour, eggs, milk, baking soda and butter.
If there’s something in the mixers that you don’t like or are allergic to don’t buy the mix don’t try to force the companies to change their successful recipes find a way to create your own or find one that fits your requirements
They can be fixed easily by adding vanilla extract half be the water & the rest amount you can add like creamer vanilla as well or plain of best one you like. Even Bliss I like. Yeah Betty Crocker changed. I like sweet with sugar, great smelling. It is best to add your own though. Yes the texture some thing are bad. I liked Bisquick. I liked Annie gummies, but that's it. Expensive. The Mac & chesse no way. I adore water to pearl milling and had to toss it out. Then did water for half mix it says or a cup & less water. It made 3-4 pancakes not 12 so idk what I am doing wrong.
“Aunt Jemima pancakes without her picture is like the spring without the fall. If there is one thing worse in this universe, that’s no Aunt Jemima at all”. The name change is just another politically correct move to placate those easily offended.
Aunt Jemaima was my favorite, but when they removed her from the pancake box they must have changed the recipe k does not taste the same and the texture is not the same. Stopped buying it. They should have kept Aunt Jemaima on the pancake box.
SAME HERE ! I will never buy any of their products again...PERIOD ! Besides, the pancake mix wasn't all that great either, especially compared to Hungry Jack.
It is obvious many of those pancakes were fried in oil of some variety. Ever notice the many freckled surfaces. A better way to make amazing looking pancakes is to use a dry skillet or griddle and add a table spoon of oil directly into the mix. Very few people will never recognize the oil. Your pancakes will become a single color. 375 degrees seems to be a great temperature. When the bubbles begin to form is a good time to think about turning your pancakes. Sugar should only be added to regulate the browning process. Here is hoping you amaze those gather around your table the next time you fix pancakes. PS! The oil and sugar will enhance those waffles also
Kirby lane pancake Smith's best pancake mixture is you can buy it in Texas at eightexas at H EB and at Kirby lane restaurants several locations in Austin Texas
Believe me, there is worse than Betty Crocker…..Krustease is the best to me…As a guy who cooker for teams where we fed thousands of people, Krustease rules
WTF? The TITLE says these are RANKED but there is NO ranking anywhere. Just higher or lower. Even on the website this is nothing more than someone sitting on a fence saying what is higher or lower BASED ON READING OTHER REVIEWS and seemingly NOT necessarily making them themselves... America's Test Kitchen you are NOT!
You are talking gibberish. Please separate your health food choices from your general choices. And if you dont know how to use a mix, that's your problem.
Water should "not" be an ingredient of pancakes. Make your own or find a rare non-complete mix. I'd recommend what used to be Aunt Jemima but they sold out to the woke crowd a few years ago.
I'm getting tired hearing that 'Glutten Free' is a healthy choice, it's not. Glutton intolerance & Lactose intolerance are deficiency's of digestion. Only a Doctor can tell you if you have the conditions. Another way would be to describe how you feel to your Doctor after eating pastries or dairy. Your Doctor must also be notified if you think you want to partake in a vegetarian or vegan nutrition plan. Don't call it a 'Diet', that refers to a temporary nutrition regiment. I don't use mixes. Bowl, flour & other stuff, mix it up...Done. I use a pinch of Baking Soda which makes a very fluffy pastry of many recipes.
No faith in what was Aunt Jemima,Just like I was a Coke drinker till those coke users changed the formula. Now I drink RC. And if our country has so many allergies and afraid to leave a name alone I will boycott them to. My grandmother would have been proud to have her likeness on a product. Shame, shame, shame.
This video is laughable. Have you people even ever eaten pancakes from some of these mixes? I buy store brands from different stores, syrup too, and may Aunt Jemima's If it's on sale, all COMPLETE JUST ADD WATER. I have never even one time made a batch of unsatisfactory pancakes from any inexpensive brand! This video is BS!
I make everything from scratch. That being said, I've sampled most of the brands in this video, ha ha. One thing I've started to do is look closely at ingredients. If it contains high fructose corn syrup, palm oil, palm kernal oil or safflower oil, SKIP IT! Those are inflammatory and/or unhealthy if you're a diabetic. As far as Cracker Barrell, when I ate at the restaurant last summer I had eggs, bacon, biscuits, and grits. It was all mediocre. I was disappointed. Trader Joe's Ube Mochi pancake mix is the BEST PANCAKE MIX EVER! But it's seasonal to summer only. As far as buttermilk pancakes, make those from scratch, it's easy .
