Great find Sean! They only finished the sealed road to here in 2018. Before that you had to ride along that stream bed for the last bit, and the rest was dirt! The mighty Salween river (the 2nd biggest in Burma) has always been the natural Burmese border. MSL was a dodgy smuggling town in the old days, then became an important crossing point for Karen refugees fleeing the ruthless Burmese Army. This area was the scene of much fighting in WWII between Brits and Japs as crossing the Salween River was very difficult and held them up for ages.
