Nice job Chuck. Its refreshing to see a nice simple review without a lot of drawn out gameplay etc. I have a Mini, a friend sent me TheC64 Maxi from UK, and I per-ordered the VIC from AmazonUK. You're helping build the anticipation :) BTW, I think its great what Retro Games has done and is doing. I'll keep ordering whatever they make ;)
Both the Vic 20 and C64 are from way before I was ever born, but I did have one of those C64 on a chip plug and plays as a kid. Personally I find the Vic 20 to be interesting and something I've wanted to see more of
On THEC64 and THEVIC20, you can map the keyboard to the joystick. This means that you could map Lunar Lander to a joystick if it doesn't work with a joystick on the original version.
18:35 just about sums it up. I still watched the full review though. Whether you'd go for this or the THEC64 might depend on what you had as a kid. Different trim, different memories. Same overall performance now really. Springing for both would be kind of redundant unless you were decorating a set or something, but between this and the THEC64, it's nice to have options.
Part of the reason why THEVIC20 is a European-only release is because the VIC-20 games on the Carousel better reflect the European gaming scene (or more specifically the British and Irish gaming scene) circa. 1982 - 1984.

Oh! I see Telengard on there! Someone watched my video last week... I am hoping the VIC-20 comes to the USA soon. I know I could get the C64 on November 5th... But that VIC-20 is just so lovely!
I'm torn about my sentiment on this. I was first really happy to see the memory of the VIC-20 was being kept alive, but as the video progressed and saw that it's pretty much a façade like any software-based simulator my enthusiasm faded a bit. Still, thanks for the heads-up about these being out there.
Plus, just calling it "The VIC-20" is very, very problematic. I never understand why these silly "reboots" can't come up with unique names. At least it's not a miniaturisation like so many other "reboots" though.
Amazon UK, perhaps. If not there then they are probably sold out. Was meant to be a limited item. 'The C64' has the same features but of course doesn't look like a VIC20
I looked, have the C64 already but really like the look of this one, and the controller, I'm also looking for an American edition of the Atari 2600+ that just came out, can only find it in the UK
Hello Chuck. Please how did you make the "super expander" to work? According to the documentation I've tried different suffixes like _MVTPB1B2, _MVTPB0 and so on but I keep having problems with the memory. Each time I type a SE command, like "sound" or "graphics" or "color" I obtain an "out of memory" and the FRE(X) function does not return the matching value displayed on the screen. It changes from 3583 to other values and that makes me guess that the suffix is correct but the VIC20 seems not able to use it correctly. Please would you provide the link of the SE.prg (if possible) or tell me how did you renamed the file? Thank you very much
@@HutchCA thank you very much, it works! Now gotta look for a tool to convert all the a0 and prg to crt. By the way, I've tried with the tap files too but for what I see, there's no Record key available, just play, ff, rew and stop. What a mess. I'm forced to use d64 to save my programs.
Hi, Retro Games, Ltd. I have even less interest in The VIC20 than The C64. When are you releasing The Amiga 600. An A600 can be emulated at full speed using exactly the same hardware you're using in The VIC20 and The C64.
