Having spent over two years travelling in our DIY self converted campervan, we have been using these portable solar generators for quite sometime now.
We are often asked if they are a good solution for off grid power, especially for motorhomes that need to upgrade their electrical set up to spend more time off grid.
We've been asked a lot about the eco flow power stations and in particular what size to go for and which one is best, so, given the opportunity we tested one out!
We were also genuinely shocked what this brand agreed to let us do with it afterwards, especially as we didn't really want to make any more power bank reviews!
So hopefully, to all those taking for our opinion and if this is a viable solution, then this video covers that.
We always love hearing what you lot think in the comments so do let us know, and as always, thank you for watching!

We have used the ru-vid.comUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

usual high standard, good research and delivered by someone who would know how it can help with van life, putting your knowledge of developing an own build van into you review is what makes these so good. Also if the supplier discounts or gifts the product you deserve for your honest opinions, take the freebies you earn them via your research,and time

@@campervibe The discount finished on 17th June - you put this video out on 17th around 6pm !! (well, according to utube). Not much time, or no time at all if you didn't pick this up until (like me) just after midnight on the 18th !! I think you have to tell these promoters that it takes a while to test something, then to get the video done, then not everybody is going to see it immediately . . . so the discount dates have to be realistic for them to get the influx of buyers that they are hoping for. I hope the company involved here reads these comnents ... 👍

One of the best realistic reviews of solar generators I have seen so far. Another advantage of this system if you have the extra external solar panel kit is you can park the van in the shade to keep cool whilst still using the system, handy for us pet owners who need to keep the van cool during those hot days.

Another great video! After doing my research, I opted for the Bluetti AC200MAX with additional battery. It also has a 100w USB-C, 2 X USB-A 18w and 2 standard USB. In addition, it has 2 X 15w wireless charging pads built in and 4 X 240v sockets. The performance is incredible and I’ve successfully run my air-con and my Alde heating/water. I use a matching Bluetti SP350 panel and have achieved 328w from it. There’s no denying these beasts are heavy. As someone who is definitely not an eco-warrior, it is wonderfully satisfying to even brew a pot of coffee and and make a sausage sandwich purely with the power of the sun. Yes, it’ll take a while to reach break-even but I’m cool with that.

Another excellent review. Very informative. In plain English. I’ve already bought the delta mini (1400W) which is perfect for my off grid workshop with solar panels to constantly recharge. Yes, they are expensive, especially with the solar panels, but you get what you pay for, so yes, would also definitely recommend as well. My only gripe is that the 3 pin power outlets are located on the other side to the display, but then I use the app to control them so not a major problem.

Forgive me if someone else has made a similar comment, I looked at a lot! This off the shelf product is great, your review seemed fair and honest and perhaps was on the premise you would be adding it to an existing factory system. My problem with these power packs is everything has to be plugged into that box. What about hard wired LED lights, Sirocco fans and USB outlets where you want them to be not where the box is? Eg: I want my phone here by me where I am not over there where the box is. For a weekender you probably get away with it but if you want outlets where it suits you and other hard wired appliances it won't work.
@sroberts605
@sroberts605 2 года назад
Presumably if you had those requirements (who wouldn't?) there'd be a place in the van to put the unit and plug in things like lights etc into the 3-pin sockets - ie you'd still wire in circuits to various other places but all the gubbins is in the one box and portable.

If I had a camper van I'd have brought one just from this video. But it has given me food for thought on reducing my current energy bills at home. I could run lights, tv's, chargers, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, small microwave, internet, fans, PC etc. All from this box. Throw in a little cable to a couple of rooms and lets face it, we generally only use lounge and bedroom 90% of the time, so would be easy to do. During the summer it would be cost effective with the right solar panels and from the initial outlay it would pay for itself withing 3-4 years.

Have an EcoFlow (River 600 MAX) in my RV, and must say it's stellar. My setup is that I use the EcoFlow with the brand solar panels when I have sun to tap into, and petrol generator for when I need to fastcharge the EcoFlow or when I need to charge my lithium battery. I use the EcoFlow to run my laptop for working on my images on the road and as my entertainment center in the evening. When I use it to run my laptop setup it also runs an external ASUS ProArt screen along with my laptop.

I know this is a paid advertisement, but you were honest and harsh, and made a good rewiew. I know how to wire my camper, I have done solar before and I own both a generator and a big pure sine inverter, and I still wonder if this is not the way to go, I can bring it inside when I park my camper for the winter and keep it charged and have as a backup if the grid goes down, I can bring it to worksites and so on.

Great review thank you. So pleased to know that the power bank I bought on a hunch because I don't have a great understanding of electrics for our new Auto-Trail built Expedition. We charge it up at home or on site when we inevitably have to go to a campsite for fresh water and dump grey waste. Next I would like to get solar so we stay off grid longer. As we now have two cassettes fresh water would be our only limit to time off grid them and water is probably the easiest of the elements needed for the offgrid in the van. Good to know this was one of our better decisions.

Phew, you didn't slate it. Bought one a couple of weeks ago with the exPawers discount code. I use it in my house when I'm at home with 800w of solar on my shed roof, I use 3 of the 240v sockets to power my office, lounge and kitchen. My panels are facing south at virtually the optimal angle for the UK. Then I can take it in my motorhome which I'm doing right now as I've had big electrical problems recently, it has saved the day!

Superb review. Best I've seen on this topic. I'm a retired electrical engineer and worked on renewables for 30 years so am familiar with DC wiring batteries etc. I haven't got a van yet but if I did I would reduce power use and simplify any wiring, and have minimal luxuries similar to a T2 VW camper incomplexity but post 2015 van due to dpf issues(preferably petrol not hybrid)but with a portable Lithium ion Po4 battery. I just think it enhances the experience and keeps stress levels low! Eric 3njoys earth youtube van design tuturial the ultimate for me but with portable battery. Everyone has different needs but this would work for me and many people having seen alot of van build videos.

You can also make your own build using this as a hybrid system combining traditional electrical system and Ecoflow Max (or similar). For example, you could have a separate 100+ Ah LFP battery for all 12v DC connected to a distribution/fuse panel and connect the battery to a small 12v charger to charge the battery from the Ecoflow. Ecoflow would be the hub to combine all options for charging, a 240v AC unit and additional battery. AC / DC load would be distributed to separate batteries. This would be cheaper option than buying a Ecoflow extra battery and there's no limit on (DC) battery size. You could take the Ecoflow out of the van for a fast charge from the grid and still have 12v DC working, including your compressor fridge! This would also tackle the problem, if you need to fix or replace the Ecoflow system. The 12v/240v charger to the extra house battery could be connected to grid with an extension cord while having service for the Ecoflow. I would go this route, if I would build a campervan. Easy setup and still very flexible and capable, best from the both worlds. Need more AC or charge capability, just update the Ecoflow.

Just bought one of these for additional power in my Land Rover, it has a basic split charge system with a 72ah leisure battery. Space is tight to I wanted a relatively compact way to give me more power and an inverter without a sprawling built in system taking up valuable storage space. This just sits in the back plugged into the 12v socket connected to the leisure battery, turn on the socket on the Ecoflow and isolate the leisure battery and this powers my whole system , turn off the socket and turn the leisure battery back on and the system runs off the leisure battery. No messing with the existing system just plug in and go. To increase the charging whilst driving, buy a 300w inverter and attach it to your engine battery and charge the Ecoflow from that, not only is that giving more power than 12v but you can use fast charging on the Ecoflow as well.

Hi. Have the 2000 Max and an additional 2000 battery plus the 400w. panels and had a back order of the solar tacker that's just arrived - expensive at £3k and the whole shebang for about £8k but as an ardent prepper really worth it - so much piece of mind. Also have a litlle electric Citroen Ami and yet to find precisely how to charge the quad from the Delta Max - seems to take forever ... should I run on X Boost setting ?! Really impressed with the whole setup and nice to have it all from the same brand - only thing left is the generator to buy but really no need for this however can see it can get you out of a hole on cloudy/dull days... build quality of everything is brilliant - see Hampshire Generators wensite in the UK who supplied all my kit. Again - 1 x 2000 Delta Max ; 1 x add on powerbank 2000; 400w solar panel and finally the solar tracker... happy to run small hob and oven in the garden - ( Robert Dyas about £100; and a small fridge from same source for the same sort of money) - sorted. Good to see your vid. confirmed my feelings ...

I decided that rather than spending fortunes putting electrics in my van I’d go with a SPG that I can be used in multiple settings from powering my caravan to back power for the house. Other than the sound deadening insulation and carpeting everything is removable so my van can return to bring just a van and everything can be reused in my next conversion. If your interested in buying one keep a look out for Amazon flash sales I got mine for £1699 full price £1999.

surely you could plug into your built in system (240V plug) and the alternator would charge the built in system and the built in system charges via the inverter.... I wonder if that will recharge better while driving....... or maybe getting an alternator charger via an inverter to a mppt to a plug to exclusively charge while driving......... also ecoflow does an lpg / petrol dual fuel generator that would fit into a toolbox with a drawer slide for a fridge (ventable) hang on the back door of a van, install under a truck camper.... that auto starts to recharge the solar generator when it hits 30%...... but yes it is a great system, even at current prices ... Nice content, thanks

We absolutely love ours, so was interested to see your take on it. They really do seem like the best on the market right now, we can now edit videos on both laptops at once which is a miracle lol! Used to overheat and kill our van batteries, but this thing is a machine 💪💪 thanks for the review and quality research 🥰 good to know we aren't just biased it really is the best lol

You can get a GIANDEL 300W Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter (around £60) that plugs into the 12v socket on the van and charge the power station twice as quick as the normal 120W via the normal 240V charge setting. Obviously, if you do that only do it while you are travelling and unplug it before you stop so the van battery is not drained of power.

Great review, but you didn't comment on one of the really helpful features of the Delta Max - the app that lets you control the unit, adjust various parameters, and in general see what's going on, all from your cell phone. If you have wifi, the app works on wifi. If you are in a remote location and don't have wifi, the Max generates its own limited range network and the app continues to work within a few hundred feet of the unit itself.

I have the delta Max with 2 spare batteries, I use wifi router in RV, SIM from ais Ipad, ok I adjust the speed of charging , I have a dual battery truck system with 2,000 watt inverter to charge ac side charging adjust down to 1000 watt or lower depending how far I drive. also I use Solar Charging. With Dual battery I have 4 12 volt parallel connected at 300 AH to run inverter , in 2-3 hours charge all 3 batteries from 50 %/60 % . Now charging 12 volt through Solar connecter it will change from solar to Car charger sign. it does work but 120 watt input . (do not use cig lighter . Now I have also hooked up 400 watt Echo Flow solar panel , charging same time my dual battery invert working , yep works good .

Lou thanks for great content as always. You are quite right to point out everyone is different as is their individual power needs. I also agree that factory built motorhomes may not have high capacity power supply systems once away from a mains 230v supply. However it comes down to the individuals needs and what they want to power. I have a factory built MH and enjoy off grid perfectly well with the as fitted system. I don't have a coffee machine or lots of gadgets to charge up but cope perfectly well charging my phone a blue tooth speaker and a few camera batteries etc whilst off grid. A factory MH may have less power than yours and other self builders but it's not right to say factory MH systems are Sh1t! It's horses for courses and for many people they maybe absolutely adequate. U tube creators like you may have lots of power needs that a factory system is not going to satisfy and of course people like Mr Radford who want to run his A/C all night a factory system is never going to manage. I think you just need to be mindful before criticising factory set ups that for some people they are perfectly adequate myself included who spends very little time on campsites. Vantastic adventures acknowledged this point recently in one of their videos by encouraging people to test the factory system before spending vast amounts of money on upgrades. Bigger is not always better!!! Batteries girl batteries focus!!!😂 Keep up the good work Paul
@campervibe
@campervibe 2 года назад
Hi Paul, you’re right, if you don’t have great power needs then the factory built system is fine. However, I’d argue that for what your paying for a motorhome, the quality of install and cheap parts often used then it’s nowhere near value for money at all. One of the things we get all the time from our subscribers is that the motorhomes won’t do 2 days and one night if the fridge is on and the truma runs, even if only briefly. I think with the cost now for a motorhome you should at least be getting more than the standard 100ah leisure battery and 120 watt panel. There’s often not even a b2b. Manafacturers seem to be putting the prices up rapidly yet not increasing the quality to reflect that. This is just my opinion obviously and appreciate why you may have been offended. It’s ok, the engine in mine is shit, so they’ve all got their faults! 😂🤣

@@campervibe that's my opinion too, the builders seem to keep track of what's in fashion & just chuck in whatever packet that is without any consideration of design or potential use, wiring sometimes trailing around in the backs of cupboards, it was single-fuse "Zig units" for years, you could go into a 10 foot single-berth caravan or a 25 foot six-berth motorhome & find exactly the same Zig unit with the same battery, often uncovered in the middle of a locker & with no vent.

Thanks for doing this review, Lou, I'm constantly looking for videos on power stations like this - the youtuber Hobotech is one of my favorites. I just preordered two new units, the Bluetti EB3A at $249 (on sale for a few days), it's just a small thing at 10 pounds using LiFePO4 batteries and has a 600W inverter and is 268wh. I went with these small ones for home power outages. One thing I really like about this new Bluetti is that you can use it as a ups also, so I'm going to hook one up to my modem and router and the other unit to my main computer. Anyway, thanks again for doing this review - make more of 'em if you want! :)

Good arguments: How easy to use, and to install. Even for Beginners, who don´t know much about electric systems. You don´t need to know, because this is ready made, to use. Also interested, how much does it costs, compare to self made. If you can get this powerstation for free, for your video - it is worth this work. Congratulation.

Found this a fantastic in depth , yet easily explained vid . One thing however , you said the unit has an 800W MPPT controller , but don’t put in anymore than 800W . An MPPT ( Maximum Power Point Tracker ) controller is a regulator of power in itself . You could rig this up to 10,000W of solar panels but you’ll never damage it or overload it as that what an MPPT controller does . When the battery is charged fully the unit will stop itself from taking a charge . Great if you use it year round as you can then “ over panel “ yourself for cloudy winter days
@campervibe
@campervibe 2 года назад
Hi there! Thank you 😀 and I get what you’re saying, however, manafacturer suggests no more than 800 watts. As you’d void the warranty if anything went wrong I wouldn’t want to reccomend to anyone to do more. Just in case. Hope that makes sense. 😀😀

Personally I bought a Bluetti ac200p , but that was a while ago now when they first come out . If this Ecoflow was on the market then I think there’s a good chance I would have bought this instead . This has a slightly larger MPPT controller , a slightly bigger inverter , and 4 240V plugs rather than 2 . They’re the biggest takes I see on this for anyone interested in comparing the two .

Was entertaining having all the electrics rewired to work all the 240’s, but like you’ve said after labour it would work out much more expensive than buying an Ecoflow, and another plus is that you get to keep it if for some reason you change wagon, seems like a no brainer to me, if you can review it again with a discount in September when I can afford one that’d be great 😃👍🏻
