Aaaaaand I just backed it! I'm building my first home and it will be ready in the fall so this is perfect. In the meantime, my wife and I are staying with my mom until build is complete. She had a Level lock installed, and within a month of being here I convinced her to change it to the Eufy Smart Lock touch -- and we are primarily a HomeKit family. That being said, I read some of the comments asking for HomeKit support. Here's the thing: The reason for the change from the Level lock was how quickly we discovered what a giant PITA it was to constantly have to take out our phone to unlock the door (or access Home on the watch) it was also very slow to respond. We set up the geofence for the auto lock/unlock which was useful at times....but if I ran out of the house to check the mail for instance, and the door locked behind me...I had no way to unlock the door. Further, if we were bringing in groceries, by the time the door unlocked automatically, it locked as we were emptying the trunk, and then with groceries in my hands I would have to fish out the phone. Long story short...what I learned in my personal experience is that it is a lot more convenient for a lock to have a fingerprint/keypad then it is to have HomeKit support. It would be a nice addition for the doorbell to support HomeKit, but I think this is a perfect combo at the Kickstarter price right now that we can upgrade a couple of years down the line. Honestly it seems like perfect package that includes almost everything what I could want from a smart lock. If it could display live view when someone rings in Google Hub with remote door open it would be instant buy from me.
That was the exact question I was about to ask. Does Eufy open up live view on my google hub? IF not, what is the most similar product on the market that would open google hub?
Seems a good solution for that kind of doors, but I'm always amazed by the general weakness of the doors and locks in US: you could open that door with a kick, while in Europe you usually couldn't open a door even with a massive crowbar.
@@TechWithBrett Hahaha! 😄 Also new homes have the same door type, probably because even if you strengthen the door they can easily enter from the windows.
I do like this device for it being a 3rd generation lock from the Eufy line up of door locks. I did question a few things about what I would’ve loved further with this considering the price of the price such as having a door sensor to allow the user to know if the door was ajar or open so you know for sure if the auto lock is even actually locked just like the Yale lock, the double camera feature is a nice touch as well that could’ve been added maybe as an option. This isn’t a big deal but I wish the night vision didn’t make a clicking sound once activated. But I do love that Eufy is very innovative in creating new devices it seems on a regular basis. Just wish they came with white and black color options which is usually the standard colors that are universal to anything color scheme. But Eufy does need to refine its security where it catches motion cause some of the time it’s not exactly accurate when you need it to be working in which I have 2 security cameras to make up for maybe the one that didn’t catch the movement in time. And I was hoping that Eufy will eventually go to 4K video resolution which is now becoming the standard at this point and 2K is like the 1080P nowadays. I like to own the latest tech especially when it comes to security but it would be heart breaking for those who recently bought the 2nd generation of this and maybe found out that this has arrived on the shelf.
It's odd that they took a step backward here with standard mechanical lock and keys. I hope the final product isn't so. The previous eufy touch wifi smart lock had a nonstandard "pickproof" lock and keys.
Wow, that extreme temperature rating looks good. Most others are listed at 40C. That’s a fairly standard summer day where I live. Good to see this at 70C.
Would love to hear a follow-up report on the battery life. This is a lot of features and tech to be put on a long-duration rechargeable battery. The kickstarter offers a spare battery, so I'm guessing Eufy does not have a clear expectation for battery life and are using backers as beta testers to determine an advertised battery expectancy.
Since Lithium-ion batteries generally have an average life span of 2-3 years, i'm cautiously optimistic its around that time. I think in 5-6 years, maybe even 2-3 I would be ready to upgrade the tech

Great video Brett, I'm a little concerned about your door trim there though. You may need to switch to a DIY video on upkeep of your trim when it is warm enough to paint... You know, the joys of home ownership never cease....
I seen a video where a channel called lock picking lawyer, they showed you can unlock most smart locks like that with a simple magnate. Basically, there is a relay in it that most of them use. When a magnate gets close enough to it, then it will flip something in it which triggers the system to lock/unlock the door. Can you test this to see if this is really true?
it's a battery powered cam which has some limitations as well as battery doorbell. How long will the battery last? It is large on the front though which will cover the paint chips from removing my old lock.
According to the print on the box @01:33 the extreme weather it can withstand is from very frozen to quite freezing (-20F to -158F)? Living in Phoenix, Arizona where are summers get to highs of 120F+ I would really hope that that's supposed to be the very hot 158F, not negative 158F. I have a Ring camera doorbell and it barely survives, and the heat causes frequent false alerts. It's not rated to go quite as hot as it gets here. And such devices rated to only 104F are just not good enough.
Hey Brett, I am having a hard time finding the right way to change the pass code. I have an RBnB and I want to change the main door passcode often. But I just cant find how to do it quickly. That should be a convenient way to do that. They failed on that feature.
This is a seriously great product. Just got an email about it myself today. Awesome informative vid, thanks 🙏. I just wish it went further. I’d pay $1,000 to have all of the bells and whistles. I want it Apple HomeKit enabled, I want NFC to tap phone/watch. Will it be Matter enabled??? I really hope they bring out a pro model in the future.
With the improvements we have seen with their other products, it will be interesting to see where this goes. Battery life is most likely the biggest challenge.
Love Eufy products, I have lots of em, and would love to have one their smart deadbolts, but until they do the geofencing and it can unlock itself when I pull into my driveway it’s a no for me. My wyze deadbolt does this and I couldn’t live without the feature, super convenient.
I still need set up my Wyze and try it out. I do think there could be some security concerns with that where it automatically unlocks when you are just in your house but that would be a good addition to have.
@@TechWithBrett My wyze lock has never automatically opened while I’m in my house. I have the lock and keypad set up and I have the Auto Unlock feature on and the auto lock feature off, so when I leave my home I simply tap the lock button on keypad on my way out and it locks then when I return home the lock unlocks for me. Now if I take to long getting to the door it will lock itself back, as a safety measure. And there is a lot of time I do lock my door when I’m home because I’m in the back and wouldn’t hear someone come in or something and it stays locked til I unlock it, I’ve never had an issue w it unlocking by itself. Ive had this lock and keypad a couple years now and love it, I keep waiting for 1 the other company’s, mainly Eufy cause I have a lot of their products, to make a deadbolt lock that has this feature, but no luck yet.
This is the most common sense comment here so far. Every door that I see while walking in around near my home or driving around has a storm door which is natural so yeah Brett didn’t address that. He’s not going to by the looks of it because he & Eufy doesn’t have an answer.
Was there temporary codes? Or codes with specific dates/hours (e.g. for a house cleaner) Anyways - didn't know if I just missed it, not mentioned, or not capable. Thoughts?
Does this only work with a deadbolt? In europe we've got a key to open the door. The key opens the deadbolt and the other triangle shaped piece when in the video the last one is opened by a handle. So that means it won't fit in a european door?
Hi, Brett, great video, gives a lot of answers and details for how to install and use. It was a nice surprise to see a physical key to unlock if everything goes south (if it can happen, it will eventually happen, Murphy's law). But one thing was unclear - I remember a mention at Kickstarter site's description about compatibility with Smart Home systems Alexa and Google Assistant. In the video I saw only one note about Alexa and as I understand, it was about ringbells. I have Google Nest Mini smart speaker and using it for some basic smart home functions. Can Eufy Smart lock work together with Nest Mini? For me it would be lock/unlock by voice, speaking with visitors through Nest Mini, control through Google Assistant routines etc? Maybe SmartUnlock function of Google Android phone?
I wasn't able to cover the smart features as there are still being worked on but it should be able to do what you asked. You can automatically lock it by voice and unlock it on the Google Home Mini with use a pin code. You can also create routines that will automatically locked the door and so on.
If this were on a rental property - how would guests be able to lock if not provided a key? Would they just enter their code in to lock/unlock as needed?
Yep, you can lock and unlock with the fingerprint or with a passcode. You can also give them access to control the lock from the App on their own account and their access can be removed at any time.
I did not see anything on the expected battery life yet, and it is too early to tell with my unit since the software is not finished. Smart integration is currently not working, but you should be able to view the camera on Google displays but not have it auto display.

Hey Brett! I have the Eufy Wifi Smart Lock, the one you reviewed a while ago before this one. Would I be able to use the existing hardware if I decided to upgrade to this one?
That is a good request. I just double check my notes and it shows the Video Smart Lock does have built in wifi. I'm thinking the setup process isn't complete yet. It does need the bridge/chime to store the video files and to play the doorbell notifications sound.
I got a backer notification that this video lock doorbell will be compatible with the Homebase hub Eufy uses for some of its other products. That means wifi is built into the device, but storage is not. It would stand to reason that the omission of a memory card slot on the doorbell is privacy or battery based.

I've received mine and it's working well so far. Interestingly, referring to 9:07 of this video, I don't have the option to use 'Alexa as Chime.' I've no idea why this option is unavailable to me.
@@SVladimirjb Many thanks. As soon as I got your message, I checked mine and I see that I now have it. Thank you. I was informed by Eufy sometime in September 2022 that the option was not supported then. Thankfully, it's now available and functioning.
That is neat, this works a bit different. When the Auto lock timer is off, the lock stays locked until unlocked, then it won't lock again until the Auto lock time starts.
I think that the key is a definite drawback; most cheaper locks are cheaper for a reason; keys are the Achilles Heel of the system in that a cheap keyed lock makes it - well, the easiest part to defeat. Give me a notification when the batteries are getting weak and need recharged, and perhaps a way to connect external power in case the batteries died, but please leave the cheap keyed lock in the parts bin. An internal connection so that it can be connected to a wall plug would be great.. But ditch the lock cylinder; or make it so that the tail piece of the lock cylinder can be removed.
It only takes a simple hammer to bust that off and then you can get to the inside mechanism to unlock the door, so I don't see how that's is so secure.
Have to disagree. I have a deeper door frame and the camera loses a third of its picture due to the frame. I do not advise purchasing this product for the camera if you have a door frame equal to or greater than 2 inches. Eufy support says its a problem with my door frame. 2 stars from me.
Ahh man I didn't realize it needed a proprietary battery. I was about to order this until I noticed they offered an add-ons for an additional battery. My current lock uses 4 AA and don't have to worry about a special battery to use this lock. 😒 Man really wanted to buy this product but that battery is a no go now as it will die or degrade
@@TechWithBrett anker has a great refund policy to be fair, and I love their speakers, but I'm not sure I'll bank my house on it - and neither will they given their funding?
