If you’ve got warrior blood in your veins, then we have two weapons you’re bound to love. The Damascus Viking Sword and its companion, Long Sax are hand forged from our finest Damascus steel and come fully sharpened and ready for battle. Was it your destiny to be a Viking Earl? If you’ve got warrior blood in your veins, then we have two weapons you’re bound to love. The Damascus Viking Sword and its companion, Long Sax are hand forged from our finest Damascus steel and come fully sharpened and ready for battle. They include some superb appointments, each featuring a beautiful Rosewood grip, and a classically styled guard and pommel made from brass and steel that’s “sandwiched” in the ancient fashion, and polished to a lustrous shine. The sword comes with an impressive wood and leather scabbard that includes a belt loop and a brass throat and chape, that’s accented by deeply embossed decorative elements. The Long Sax comes with an historically correct, thick leather scabbard complete with an embossed brass welt, chape, and carrying rings.

Fun term fact for the day: It's proper name is Seax, or scramaseax or scramsax in disambiguation, the term Sax is more old english and in Scandinavian languages it means scissors.
@edi9892
@edi9892 4 года назад
AFAIK, Sax gave the name to Saxonia/Sachsen, just like the German name of France, Frankreich is named after the axe, just like all crusaders were named after them by the Arabs. The English word Germany literally means spear-men. The name Germans have in Russia is also funny (something along the line of not understanding [Russian]). PS: the origin of the word to assassinate is also funny... (it is related to an old insult meaning stoner)

@@edi9892 Yeah, German is немец in Russian which is thought to have the same root as немой (mute). Funnily enough, the word славянин (Slav) is thought to have the same root as слово (word). So Slavs were people the Russians could communicate with and Germans were people who they didn't understand. XD

I usually have Recon 1 in right front pocket and a Recon 1 Tanto in the left front, or, a fully serrated Talwar. All with the 4" blades. Here in Florida that's the length we're limited to if we don't have a CCW. I was never a fan of serrated blades till I came across a deal on the fully serrated Talwar. I picked it up since it intrigued me and was a steal of a deal. I really dislike partially serrated blades, but, I've found that a fully serrated blades is a whole other animal thanks to this Talwar. It's a cutting monster. You know, it is so hard to go wrong with a Cold Steel product.

I have full faith that Cold Steel can make a Broken Back Seax in AUS 10 A or BD 1 in a folder platform. I know Condor Knives does an Otzi knife. Make a Seax folder Demko with better tip strength.

It's refreshing to see a broken back English seax blade with some good asymmetric geometry and not just the typical straight bar with a short diagonally cut tip "seax". HOWEVER. This is still not more than a fantasy seax. There's so much wrong in this so called "historically accurate" piece. First: The blade itself: There's pretty much NOTHING viking about the English and Germanic "Broken-back-seaxes". The war-knives found in scandinavia and the baltic areas were more towards the longer, slimmer profiles with short simplistic handles, but often VERY decorative scabbards. Also the patternweld (aka damascus) of this blade is absolutely not the type of patternweld you would see on a seax of this type. The combination of bloomery iron and shear steel would be purified separately, patternwelded in separate rods and then combined with the purest high carbon rod at the edge end of the billet. This was done both in very simple combinations for some blades (some being simple purified shearsteel) and extremely intricate and decorative for others. This bold "random" pattern would not have been seen anywhere at the time. Second: There's no historical finds with a plunge grind. This is a minor point for some, but its a prominent theme for knives all the way back to the migration era up to even later medieval times that he blades had one single bevel, from the spine to the edge, evenly over both blade and tang, without plunge grind. Third: A more obvious point. No English or Germanic seax has been found with sword fittings. This kind of guard and pommel has NOTHING to do with these knifes. The few fittings found has been extremely minimalistic, barely more than a bolster and buttcap. Fourth and last: All handles that has still been attached to the English and Germanic "Broken back" blades (which are rare) has been much longer than a typical knife handle. At least 30 to 45% of the overall length of the knife. There are several theories on why that is, and as a practitioner of "practical archeology" and a reenactment fighter, I can absolutely find several handy things in it being so long. They were also more often than not very simplistic. With these points out of the way, I'm gonna repeat the biggest misconception about these knives. They are NOT viking knives. Sure they existed in the same era as the vikings, but they were carried by English and Germanic mid European tribes, not the Scandinavian people. If you want a good example of what a "Viking" seax could look like, here's an example. www.deviantart.com/danogambler/art/The-Female-Warrior-s-Knife-840980131 And yes, of course there would be the few that adopted foreign weaponry and collected curiosities, and craftsmen that took inspiration from wares brought from abroad, but that doesn't make it typical of their culture. There. Rant over. Seaxes are a VERY interesting and nuanced topic, but also one of the most misunderstood. If you have a big interest for these knives and weapons, I can recommend taking a peek at "The Seax Files" on Facebook. It's a group dedicated on discussion, observation, and of course the craft and making and literature regarding this topic. Edit: I know there are several single edged swords found in Scandinavia and even a long broken back "sword like" knife found in Norway. For the first, the swords are just that - swords. And the swordlike broken back knife with sword fittings has at several occasions been identified as a unique object, where the blade has most likely been imported and later mounted with swordlike fittings. Also, it does not in any way look like the knife in this video.
