I don’t think Slash was sponsored by Gibson when we acquired the famous derrig copy. He got that guitar before GNR broke out and become popular. Once they got famous then Gibson got involved and eventually attempted to copy the copy…..
Harley Benton is Thomann. I have two friends working there. One guy is a crazy good luthier who built one neck for me. He is specing out new Harley Benton models …
Ah! I figured out this guitar friend phenomenon and I was hoping you established RU-vidrs wouldn't figure it out! Not only are you ahead of me, you have way better wording to describe it!
Nah, the guy who made slash’s OG LP replica was names Kris Derrig. Kris Derrig (April 6, 1954 - May 14, 1987) was an American luthier and musician born in Greenfield, Massachusetts. As a guitar builder, he is best known for building Slash's recording guitar, used in the Guns N' Roses album Appetite For Destruction, as well as many other counterfeit 1959 Gibson Les Paul.[1] Derrig died in May 1987 from a form of cancer. He didn't live to see the impact his Les Paul copies would have on Guns N' Roses debut album, Appetite For Destruction, and the signature sound of Slash.[2]
Cool show. I’m a les Paul guy and have a few nice ones. I also have this exact model “vintage paradise”. I had it set up because the action was a bit too high for me which improved it a lot. It’s a very playable guitar and with the 500 I paid for it. I don’t think it looks that great (looks similar to yours). The flames veneer doesn’t move with the lighting and looks fake / cheap to me, the top is a bit too Orange. But it definitely plays better than many epiphone LPs I have tried. If I had to get another I’d just choose a tobacco burst or something. I just don’t like the slash knock off attempt.
I hear and like what you’re saying, but feel that what you are referring to, in the true sense of the word, is guitar/musical associates. True “friends” care about you on a far deeper level. In some cases even more than family. The guys from my band are my brothers. I probably know them better than their mothers. Then again, I have always been viewed as someone people can confide in and seek advice from… I just think it’s a sad, sad world if we only need “friends”/people for one thing, or view everyone as a business opportunity. My opinion. Back to the theme. You should try a Tokai. I own seven Japanese models, and yes, the build quality is far superior to Gibson and their “Strats” and “Teles” are on par with Fender. The sound/tonal quality is all there from stock pickups.
Great show.. But Being for 40 years part of the MI circus in Germany i have to bring in some corrections. The tonal quality of the Vintage electric guitars is only possible with the guitar design of Trevor Wilkinson, who really knows how to make a guitar sound like these holy grail instruments. So it ´s not only the hardware from Wilkinson . Thomann was once selling Vintage guitars and obviously they liked it, as they stopped selling Vintage after they found any maker in Asia who could make guitars which were look alike some of the guitars of the Vintage range. So they included these guitars in their existing housebrand which is of course Harley Benton. Concerning the single coil guitar at the end of your movie, you claimed the guitar is wrongly wired. you did not realize that the guitar has a very sophisticated wiring. (Balanced set of Wilkinson WVS vintage-voiced Alnico V pickups, with staggered, chamfered edge pole pieces, for authentic tone and contemporary power. Reverse wound, reverse polarity centre pickup provides hum-cancelling in switch position 2 and 4.) Thank you for your work especially for your Kemper profiles....
Wait, what? I‘d really appreciate bass tones. I’m tinkering with all the string sizes and any killer tones will help. As for Les Pauls, I ended up with a Sire. Huge but comfortable neck, same fret imperfections in terms of roughness, but perfect fret ends. Can be solved by amateurs, too. The gold of my gold top has a little bit too much green filler underneath, would prefer it a little warmer in color. But that’s it. Price per sound is ridiculous.
It wouldn’t be the Paradise City guitar in the video, but a knock off of the Kris Derrig LP replica Slash used on Appetite For Destruction and still owns and records with to this day. Of course Paradise City IS on AFD, but anytime a Slash replica is considered, it will ALWAYS be a replica of a replica. Gibson can’t even dup that guitar and they’ve tried. Unfortunately Kris Derrig died in 1987 and never saw the history his guitar made.
Let me clarify about cheap guitars. I have low budget guitars that, with a little TLC, have been wonderful instruments. “Chibsons” on the other hand, that’s just 🤢 Not a fan of counterfeit anything. At least make the logo say “Gilson” or something haha
I used to be a guitar 'snob' until I took a chance on a Vintage, they make fantastic guitars for the money - here's my V1003 in action :-ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aKP_UkMXE_8.html Just picked up the re-issue Lemon Drop for under £300 and it's excellent too. Most Vintage guitars need a fret polish and action re-adjust but otherwise great bang for the buck!
TJ seems to delete my comments, not sure why. Anyway here's Slash talking about his Kris Derrig AFD Les Paul. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0vRLRbWfQs0.html
