Description: The hard truth as to why I will never buy another VMS product. The biggest waste of money I have ever purchased with so many claims to be such an amazing unit. Watch and see what problems I have had and let me know if you have faced the same.
Acknowledgment Of Country and People:
I would like to acknowledge my people, the Dharug people past, present & future of what is now known as the Sydney basin. I would also like to acknowledge the Awabakal People past, present & future for whose country I currently reside on and these videos are produced although not always filmed. Lastly I would like to pay respects and acknowledgment to all Aboriginal people from the different lands across Australia on which country I may be filming these videos. I will do my best to be respectful of the various people, cultures and traditions of all Aboriginal people around this country.

Have you used the VMS 700HDX or any other model? If so let me know what you think of it in the comments below. What about other GPS units? Let me know what you use and what you think is the best value for money product/app.

Using Google maps was a lot better than this. Maps took forever to change when you drove off the map and I went to do upload the lastest updates and the the thing fried itself and wouldn't display anything. And yes, I went off the same recommendation that you had.

@David-gfj40 the maps did take ages when using Off Road mode. Off Road mode in general eas bloody useless. I now use Gaia GPS for my navigation. It is a free app for Android & Apple, works with Car Play/Android Auto. You can also use it on any Web browser, create a free account to save waypoints, routes etc and sync it with your smart device via the same account. You can also easily share waypoints etc as I do on my website for the places I visit. The VMS now sits in a box in my office. Not even worth using as a paper weight.

So often the practical application never quite lives up to the hype. To be fair, I've got the Hema HX2 (had the HX1) and they didn't do off road navigation in the way you're seeking either. But they didn't have map loading issues etc either.... I actually prefer the HX1 to the HX2 but that's a longer story.

Part of the reason I wanted it is because on the unnamed show it did clip to the tracks off road. I would hope the Hema is a much better product given the difference in price. In honesty though it is sad when free Apps such as Gaia GPS can clip to tracks both on and off road, walking trails etc etc.

Could you please explain what is wave point I have the hema

If I said Wave Point at all it was meant to be Way Point. A Way Point is a location that you want to stop at be it the final destination or a spot to stop along a route. For example the 700 HDX comes with a load of free camps which are saved as Way Points although none of these that I tried are actually in the correct location as shown with Terpentine Campground in this video. When creating a custom Route you need to utilise addresses as Way Points unless you wish to follow the default "easiest" route the VMS picks, if importing a Route from the PC it marks every tiny bend in the road as a new way Point and it only allows you to have a limited number being why importing from a PC is no good.

Luckily the GPS built into my Fortuner has all the stuff I need to save locations and will route me to them in a couple of button presses. Heaps easier then what you painfully struggled through on that VMS thingamejiggy.

Im sure most other brands woulc be easier. The Route side of things is mostly if you don't want to follow the quickest or easiest routes. Say for example when I did Newnes I didnt want to follow the highways, rather I wanted to go via Wisemans Ferry and follow the river through to Putty. Then I had to search addresses along the way and enter them so it actually followed the route I wanted rather than letting me copy it in from my computer where I had actually already planned the trip.

I got sucked in by the advertising on RU-vid etc and bought one too. Not user friendly at all! It's now back in its box, collecting dust in the shed! Total waste of money!

Agreed mate and I know we are not alone. That's why when I do videos on any products I want to be 100% honest and if it is given to me I will make sure that is known at the start of the video.

Sorry if you take any recommendations from 24/7 you probably deserve to get screwed. That bunch would sell their own Grandmother's if someone paid them they are shockers.

Sadly that is the case with a number of the bigger channels. Anything for the sponsors. That's part of why have released this video, to show people I'm not afraid of calling a product shit if I honestly believe it is. Some companies might not like that but if they do not honestly believe their product is all they claim then so be it. As for me buying this off someone's promotion, I was still new to the 4wd scene and actually looked upto them at the time. Then I woke up and realised the truth and the way some of them drive is not responsible.
