Evolution of Kurt Travis: • The Vocal Evolution of... Evolution of Tilian Pearson: • The Vocal Evolution of... Intro "It's All Over" by Kurt Travis: kurttravis.ban...
I'm going to make an updated version of this video whenever the new Secret Band album drops. Tilian voice change: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q1MB9UnWSoc.html
I feel like you can really notice the difference beginning with Acceptance Speech. His clarity and tone have definitely improved. Love Jon Mess. Super nice and humble guy too
My favorite screamer. I actually quite like all iterations of his vocals. From the deeper bark like screaming of dbm1 to the higher pitched vocals of dbm2 and to his more comfortable higher but mid range screams in the Tillian era. With DMB1 being my favorite performance. His screams are raw in every sense of the word. They sound frustrated, hurt, and angry, and unpolished. There's kind of a crazy passion and unsurity about them that I love. They fit completely with the epic and emotional turns of the album. He's never had a bad performance in my eyes. He's gotten a lot better, and think he's always been unique.
I think DBM2 is his best because it's the most unique. In my opinion of course. But that shit will tear you up, glad he went to a more conventional style with the later stuff.
the only reason I can't get into DGD's earlier stuff is because of Jon's screams... I would love to love them but they don't seem to grow on me. It's great that he has improved so much
You can tell Jon worked a lot on his style in more recent albums. His vocals are so much clearer than before. DBMII is still my favorite DGD album. JM and the whole band really are amazing. Their Tree City Secession live album is incredible.
Music is Good Acceptance Speech mess is just as good as DBM1 mess, but everything in between was pretty weak. I would love to hear current mess style on dbm1 songs, Tree City sessions was awesome because I got to hear that on all the older material. Tillian made kurts songs tolerable too which was a bonus
its weird that his voice changes so much fro 2012-13 i honestly thought they had a different vocalist up until acceptance speech i didnt know it was the same screamer the whole time other than happiness
Well, except Demo Team isn't even supposed to be a good song (even if I listen to it unironically sometimes), but at least that one non-chopped part was used to showcase Jon during Acceptance Speech, which was phenomenal regardless :P The titular track though I think showcases Jon's abilities on that album way better.
woah thanks for the heart on my comment. just listened to secret band for the first time yesterday and goddamn Projectile Comet is one of the best post-hardcore songs ive ever heard
I feel like dgd earlier stuff had really shit microphones/recording studios or he was still learning to sing. 2013+ stuff he sounds really good, everything before that just sounds like it was recorded in a shed.
Probably Secret Band LP, Acceptance speech and Mothership IMO but there really isnt that much of a difference in 11 years which is awesome. Then again he is only 29-30 and been practicing for so long that its probably natural to scream without ruining your voice. good food and water and your gucci!
Up to DBM2 his voice kept getting higher and more nasally song bar the occasional song like that Apotheosis guest star, but then comes along Acceptance Speech and Secret Band to kick your ass inside out.
I almost hate his vocals on dtbm2 they range from fine to really bad. I’m specifically talking about the style he does at in songs like at 1:10 in need money lmao
@@breadtilian I agree, i just feel like they’re so inconsistent on that album and the bad parts like what I time stamped earlier kind of ruin the good parts for me, I love his vocals on acceptance speech and onwards, he’s only gotten and better over time
ViolentSofa yes I am serious, until 2013 his screams were just over used and exagerated on most songs, now they learned where to place the screams and it doesn't sound like he is dying lmao
