A lot of people say Outer Wilds is a game you can only experience once. That’s not true. You experience it once playing it flatscreen, and then you experience it forever in VR. As Gabbro would say, it really gets you to stop and smell the pine trees. (Also, as an aside, the focal distance in VR is so intense everything feels SO CLOSE LIKE WHY IS THE SUN THAT BIG OH MY GOD I’m standing next to Chert and it feels like the thing is *right up against my nose* ! Also when drifting through space outside of my ship…I feel body chills all over. Like my body makes me feel like I’m floating in the cold expanse of the void. VR is wild as hell, I swear.)
Things probably feel close because they absolutely are. Imagine if, for a couple minute of the day, the entire sky was just the sun. Or imagine looking up in the middle of the day and 40% of your vision is Jupiter
I didn’t have to play VR to get it, but I love that feeling you described of experiencing Outer Wilds entirely differently when you play it after beating it. You can’t “play” Outer Wilds more than once, but you can experience its incredible atmosphere as much as you’d like to.
Man, I know I can't erase my memory, but to see an official VR version on PSVR2 with the headset haptics and eye tracking. Especially the eye tracking with quantum objects! You could blink and they disappear!
Haha, that ending! I had a similar experience with Skyrim VR, I fired it up to test it and a couple of hours went by with me collecting flowers and butterflies, I didn't even got to the first dragon XD I did know about the VR mod for OW but I still haven't tried it, this video motivated me to set up VR again!
I think it would be a big exposure if Outer Wilds gets released for PSVR 2. I think this game is perfect for VR because people don't have the same expectations in VR games. They'll be fine if they don't get the typical game mechanica and such. I swear when I get a VR headset, any kind of Outer Wilds content will be the first things I try 😄
yeah i have a ps5 and i have been looking into getting a headset recently, and since i already have a ps5 that performs miles better than my laptop, i would probably go with that if it weren’t for the fact that it’s always limited to the ps library. it’s amazing how this is a mod, and how mobius hasn’t implemented vr, or at least said that after the switch port that will be their next step, as i think a lot of people would want to play that.
playing outer wilds in vr was as close as i've gotten to playing it again, and playing eoe in vr was quite scary and immensely emotional. Brittle hollow was already my favorite spot in the system, and vr made it so much better(especially the heart attack I got from turning around and taking a meteor to the face)
My favorite moment was when ... (minor DLC spoilers) I actually laid down IRL and watched the dam burst on the the other side of the stranger. Unfortunately, I misjudged my location and got swept away while still lying down.
Great stuff man Vr version does look super cool! Although what you said you felt on the vr version, I've also felt that on the base version. I don't know if just we just played differently or it's just me. However I would still love to play it on vr! Again, great job on the video. Take care
Im so happy this showed up in my reccomended! I immediately downloaded the mod and ive got to say, its one of the coolest gaming experiences ive had yet. What shocked me the most is how big stuff was. i had no idea that your spaceship was so big! and also that the PC is very small compared to other hearthians.
I have never used VR and have never been interested in it, but I also have been waiting for an excuse to replay this game and this is the perfect one. I remember how playing this before in my small notebook screen had me gasping and screaming all the time, especially when getting destroyed by the sun. Something that no other game has done before, this should be awesome on VR.
Haha thanks! I forgot to take pictures in a lot of places because I was so distracted by looking at everything around me but I really wanted to do the quantum moon in VR :)
Great video! Outer Wilds is one of my top two videogames of all time and it's just so nice seeing other people know about it and appreciate it so much I hope to one day be able to afford a VR headset to be able to experience it like this
I tried it with the Oculus Quest 2 AirLink (i.e., without cable) and it works rather well. The only real problem was finding out how to switch the flashlight on and off, to be able to operate the Owlkian technology (hint: it's all in your head).
Tried this out after beating the game yesterday. Absolutely incredible. Need to get my VR legs strong before I give this a real go though. Even 2d the game me feel a bit odd hahs
I bet at some point there’ll be rooms where you wear a strap connected to the walking vr thing where it pulls you up to simulate gravity and then smell dispensers where it’ll spray a scent into the room depending on where you are in the game and then air condition really fast or just slowly spray the other scent a little more until it’s only that scent in the air. Also, what if they had vr body suits that put pressure on all of your body depending where so it actually feels like you’re touching stuff(I dont know how you will regulate the temperature)
4:48 I managed to find a new way to enjoy the game myself, I have a software that injects corrupt data into the game to glitch it out for fun, and I still play it regularly just to do that. Nothing can beat the experience of my first playthrough though...
Hey! It's actually just from the soundtrack, it's from 14.3 Billion Years. I think the part you're talking about starts about 3 minutes into the song :)
the rock is not reaaally quantum, so you played it wrongly. Everytime you look at an empty trunk, you have to look at the rock, then look down, so it changes where it is to one of the other 2 stumps. It would be more limited. This is just nitpicking, really fun watching you make the mario party game here it is not quantum because like when you started playing it always were at the left stump, instead of a quantum thing that is always changing, being able to be at any stump.
