I own a 1995 E320 and the current odometer reading is 412,000 miles. I had the car repaintrd in 2014 and every minute rust area was repaired. I replaced the transmission recently with a factory transmission. The car still runs as good as it has since I purchased it in 2000 with 67k on it. One of the besr cars that I have owned.
@kosmosleha - Depends on the style... I have a '94 E320 Cabrio and some parts are exceedingly difficult to source. The sedans and wagons are likely easier. Some parts are "running dog capitalist lackey" priced. If MB would "open source" the engineering specs, it would probably be cheaper to 3D print some parts.
This is pure nostalgia! I had one W124 in 1989 as new, and this looks like it came from the factory. It is so easy to handle, so easy to maintain and so fun on the roads, turns on a dime. I remember all of the hieroglyphics and the feel of it, even the smell. Thank you showing this astonishing well care Mercedes. If I lived in the US, I'd buy it right away. The person who buys this car, WILL NEVER be disappointed.
My grandfather bought this car from his neighbor as a gift for me and I've been loving it ever since. The neighbor never drove it and kept it in his garage for years.
Few are aware of the Mercedes actually had the outer design about finished already somewhere around in 1978-1980. Then naturally some years of technical development and testing naturally before put on the marked in the mid 80's. So my 124 is a 40 year old design, and it actually still blends in quite well in in today's traffic, I have a grey metallic color, the facelift bonnet and changed the orange markers with white ones. I so love the design and I'm proud of driving a 23 year old car every day to work. My '95 300D have cost me around 1000 usd a year in parts and repair the last 10 years, with me doing 80% of the service myself. that naturally saves me a lot. Planning to give it a good upgrade with new coat of paint within 5 years, she deserves it.
and they did i just saw one in Germany (2 door 3L manual )80.000 Km go for 18.000 euros. Move that beauty to the US, and you can add 10k and people will still buy it
Beautiful example of the W124. I have a 95 E320 cabriolet as my daily driver. Turned over to 110,000 miles this week. I notice this one does not have the headlamp wipers and I like that look. I may remove mine and put in solid inserts under the glass lamps to improve its sleekness even more! Your videos are the best!
@HammerOBX .. IIRC the headlight washers were part of an option group,, which included the 2-position memory driver's seat. .. Bill's MY95 E 320 sedan has neither.
I've got 197, 780 on my '94 Cabrio. Starting to use a bit of oil, but nothing serious. That straight 6 engine will need a timing chain at 250k, but I'll be gone by then. I'm slowly starting to customize it. So far I've put some nice scratches and dents in it, and a cracked bumper... looks good! lol Seriously, though... it's triple black, so I've got a black front hood emblem and black hub inserts on order. No "E320" or "4MATIC" on the trunk. I'm going to put paper-thin self-adhesive veneer over the wood trim; something exotic. Replace the aluminum strips on the chassis door opening with copper. Possibly do the exterior trim in copper later, as funds and motivation permit. Put some cameras in it. Maybe do a "tie-dye" wind screen. Get some 4-sided "D&D" type fuzzy dice. And upgrade the sound system so I can drown out that horrible urban pop garbage with some respectable MC5 and Blue Cheer!
W124 250D is daily driver for last 11 years in my family and will be mine daily for many years to come... Would like to get E320, 400E, E420, 500E or E500 in future... Actually would like to get every 124 model, but that is kinda hard to find and service haha
over here in the netherlands europe they are becoming rare to find.last week i spoke to a guy who bought an 320 brandnew in 1992 and still drives it. it had 423000 km on it and it was almost the same condition like this beauty. a good one over here goes for €10000-15000 . over the years i had the pleasure to be a passenger in three of these.bill tells it just the way it is.
WOW, this is just an awesome car with nice trim and in top condition! Had the 300E (straight six) 1991 and regretted its sale - never ever found one again with full equipment list... your wood trim is called "Zebrano" - the really best!
I love my w201 2.3 16v. Something about the build quality on this generation of mercs. A c124 or a w124 is next on the want to own list. Had a 300D once, but it was worn with 450000 miles on it. Id like a low milage diesel one day. Great video.
The new Mercs are full of electronic gizmos and all sorts of bunk. None of them feel near as good as the old 1990’s ones. That was a time when Merc really did live up to its reputation of being the “Most Well Engineered Car” in the World....
The W124 was noted to have the stiffest chassis of any production car ever at 66MHz. My mother owned one of these back then and I got to drive it often. It was a fantastic car. It's a Mercedes when Benzes were Benz and not the crap they are turning out now.
My mom had a 1992 300e and 30 yrs later she still says it’s the best car she ever had. I actually learned how to drive in that car, which was not a good idea as it spoiled me to expect all cars are supposed to drive like that car.
Also to add. My moms 300e made such an impression that I later bought a 2008 e 550. It was an awesome car - but the newer e classes just didn’t have the same feel as the w124
21:10 „what’s still made in Germany nowadays, except some weird p****”. Because you nailed it so well, I as a Germany laughed and a moment later almost cried, thinking about what policy makers and EU bureaucrats are doing to our once so great automotive industry nowadays.
Wow I love it, this was my very first car, needless to say mine was not in so good condition. But the engine was amazing I wish I can find another one that's this mint condition
+1. .. Fond memories the W124 series. .. I too came across a 1-owner MY94 E 320 Coupe variant a few years ago. .. The "as-new" coupe now serves as the daily driver. .. Like Bill's modest mileage - 2-owner MY95 E 320 sedan, our coupe is also finished in 702 Smoke Silver metallic with 265 Creme Beige Leather. .. Hey Bill, have a look at the 3.2l engines external serpentine belt - think of an extra-long, extra-wide fan belt... This OE belt requires a change every 30k miles or 4 years. ..Age kills this belt. .. About $60.00/belt and 1hr install. .. All the best, good luck M/S
They really nailed it with the W124! We used to own a E200 back in 90-92. man that was a sweet ride despite its under powered engine, I believe it had 90-95 hp, but still, it was a cruiser. I'm actually looking at a E420 at the moment with 74000 miles on it, hope to make a deal asap before it gets sold!
very good condition! there are some fans and dealers they bring cars like this here to europe !! there are a lot of mercedes BMW Audi etc what comes back imported to germany from japan!! specialy the E 500 ( E 500 ) is great! E 320 like this coasts in Europe with around 60000 KM from 15000 € to open end. the buzzer the doorlook pins are only by the US-market Models
Those Mercedes are better than the new Mercedes. My mother used to have 1993 e260. It was clean like this one. It is not an American system. It is originally imported from Germany. It was a beautiful car.
Ok now I have watched. How in the hell do u get so lucky. I am actually glad the POs made you pony up for that car. Lol. You were actually lucky the harness was bad. Some negotiation power. Lol
I am shaking! These cars are masterpieces. I have concluded that I will never ever get over it. The W124 is the greatest series Mercedes ever made. Sacco Bruno is a genius!
this guy is laying it on thick! It had to be good, it replaced the 123! I can tell you the name of the designer! look at those wheel with tires on them! I paid way too much for it! It belonged to an old lady who kept it in her living room! This is the last of the real "nuts and bolts, wood and leather, steel mercedes" ! Look it still has the jack! and spare tire, wow! Woops I pointed out the shitty trunk stops but its MIRACULOUS to see any rubber left there at all. "this car is designed to go forever!"
i had w124 200e 1993 on 670k km and the butons wear all most the same as yours and the wood trim was the same w124 is the best benz from the golden eara
My grandma is giving me her E320 same color and everything with maybe 50k miles. The only thing is it sat for a long time. Is there anything I should know. Hers looks as good as this one. I’m hoping to do the 3hr trip to pick it up next month. Thanks in advance!
W124 from 1986~1993 are the best.after 93 they used that engine with the biodegradable loom..harness as inbthis video that mess everything up once they perish.thats what happened to us mercedes drivers here in south africa.😥.
NO WAY!!! W212 is better! The W124 was the beginning of cost cutting! The windshield is glued in instead of gasket... tubular reinforcements... the diesel engine that replaced the 617 was designed to be the first mercedes diesel engine costing the same as a gasoline engine... The wheel offset was changed from the classic 23-25mm to 35mm.
Mercedes have come back again with the w212, but come on, it's 20 year additional development. Even if the w124 diesel where cheaper made then the 617, the engines will still outlive the rest of the car by far in general. Mercedes probably figured out that is was no big use in having a engine that could survive the rest of the car with 25 years.
Rimrock300, Yes but Mercedes also depreciate like crazy now! I actually think my W212 has been more reliable than W123. Although the 617/ 4G auto are amazing the locking system, climate control (esp air con), and trunk seals were not the best.
Do you know the part number for the gearbox itself?? I never knew they did 320s with manual boxes, only the 280s. I have a C280 with the 5 speed manual box
My God this car has aged very well. It really looks almost brand new, absolutely mint condition! I think the W124 chassis was one of the best designs from Mercedes-Benz. Still making very well equipped vehicles, decent power figures and very reliable if well maintained throughout its lifespan, which can be very long indeed. This is almost a museum piece! I bet someone who can time-travel from the 1990's to the present will confuse this example with one that just came straight out of the factory. My father had some years ago a W124 300CE-24 Valve convertible with a manual transmission. Only 40.000kms (25.000 miles), but had to sell it because it needed quite a few things regarding maintenance for having sat a really long time in a garage and needed the money to make some repairs in the house. Still had the factory tyres and had that real leather Mercedes-Benz scent!
Had the same car, same color same condition, got hit in the rear end by a Dodge ram on the interstate in Georgia, totalled. Nice car, good pull, the ride at hwy cruising speed is solid, but needs more oomph compared to the V8 e420. Solid build, expensive to fix,I had no major work done besides all shocks, coils, radiator and hoses, water pump. Harness was good. These cars regularly run hot though so beware. Had for 8years,good times.
As much as I do like (some) modern Mercedes vehicles (I commute in a C300), these classic Benz cars are absolutely, without question, leagues better in quality and luxury than anything they’re putting out now. Yeah, the technology and performance may not be up to par with modern standards, but the pure solidity, simplicity, and reliability is outstanding. This conveys such a subtle sense of luxury that modern luxury cars simply cannot replicate, and the experience is just unrivaled by anything modern. Sophistication is defined by these cars, and it really is something else. I definitely need another classic Benz in my life at some point!
@Darren Persad . .. Well said. .. The E-Class and 300E vehicles have the character of quality, top-shelf engineering, crashworthy and luxury all rolled up. .. Our MY94 E-Class 320 coupe is the preferred long distance "Road trip" cruiser. .. ATL to Vail is about 1,500mi. .. Crossing all-day long Kansas at 85-90mph was never more relaxing.
I just got this same exact car that's in good condition but not as nice as the one in the video. It has a 196k miles on it but still drives great. I absolutely love it!
