Looks almost completely like a Satisfactory clone but without the quirkiness and amazing scenery. I haven't seen enough to know what the difference is. Will there be some different gameplay or is it exactly the same. What are they bringing to factory building that is new? I'm hesitating to buy this as I'm not sure I need to play another 700+ hours playing a game I've already became exhausted with and that looked better. I like the robots though. Maybe you can inform us on the above. :)

@@mach5406 I would recommend taking a look at the official Foundry RU-vid channel. They go over a lot of the features and what is unique from other factory games. www.youtube.com/@foundry_game I think the TLDR might be.... if you enjoy the genre of factory games, then you're probably going to love Foundry. If you play just one or two factory games but it's not really your thing, then it might not be for you. Foundry fits squarely inside the factory game genre, so you can expect to be doing a whole lot of things just like other games in the genre.

You can put an output loader right next to your input loader to allow your storage to act like a buffer. It’ll fill up when there’s surplus and drain when there’s a demand. This method prevents your storage buffer from acting as a choke point until it's full. See below example. S T O R A G E ^ v Belt -> (Input Loader) (Output Loader) -> Belt Also a good way to keep tabs on if you're manufacturing enough. Your buffer should always be full if you're creating more than you're using.

That is a know trick amigo, except when you want to store some, but all is used and nothing is stored... I split half away into storage, with the X's I only use it to half fill for instance, when it's full, 100% goes onto the belt... Many tricks, how creative can you get rigth? I just started playing again and having a ton of fun. You, any other tips? I need a challenge lol!
@UbilManther
@UbilManther 28 дней назад
 @JakeSimmer My tip is just to create a supply line buffer, This works for all sizes of logistical storage with bigger storages providing a bigger buffer. If you want to split it off to store some, that's viable. You can also adjust how big of a buffer you want. If you want to lock down all slots but one, then you get a single stack buffer. I personally lock one slot so I have somewhere to drop the random item I get from making belt changes. If, however, you're supplying your belt line at its maximum rate (i.e., 160/min for Tier 1 belts), then the buffer will never drain unless your input drops off, for whatever reason. So again to your point, you have the option of using both my idea for a supply buffer and then split off your belt to a dead-ended storage to act as a personal storage, or you can use the buffer as personal storage (if you're supplying it well it'll never be empty) or you could just use an input loader and it'll be your personal storage, but it won't be able to buffer your supply lines then.

Yes! Foundry was the 2nd game I featured on my channel when I was just getting started. The Foundry developers have told me I was the first one to feature the game, though I think some streamers on Twitch may have come before me. I may be the first one to show it on RU-vid. I actually first learned of Foundry while watching a stream from the developer of FortressCraft Evolved. I was watching to learn about the sequel to FCE and someone in chat mentioned Foundry. They started chatting about it and from there I looked it up and the developers were kind enough to provide me with an early press key. The game has come a super long way from that time. The developers have been patient, disciplined, and determined not to release the game until it met their vision for content and quality. It's been a long wait, but kudos to them for sticking to their convictions! 🥇

Did you notice that the Xenoferrite crystals are X shaped and the Technum is T shaped? Also, knowing the periodic table from the top of my head, it's always confusing, when games use the same style of abbreviation but there are already different elements with that abbreviation. When I see "Te" I think Tellurium, not Technum.

That's an amazingly tough question!! Overall, it's too early to tell for me. So much has been added to Foundry since I last played and most of it I haven't even seen yet. Here are my rambling thoughts: Satisfactory has an edge in that I believe it's had dozens and dozens of people working on it for a longer period of time. The team working on Foundry is very strong and disciplined but they are relatively few in number. There are a few things about Foundry right at the start that I do prefer over Satisfactory. Satisfactory's map is big and absolutely gorgeous, but it's static. You can't terraform the land and shape it to your will. Foundry's maps look great (though, not as good looking as Satisfactory IMO), but they are procedurally generated, infinite, and most importantly to me, they can be terraformed. I love shaping the game world to my will which is a big reason I love Captain of Industry too. I also prefer the size of the machines/buildings in Foundry over those in Satisfactory. I find it's sometimes a bit wonky placing the huge machines/buildings in Satisfactory, especially if you don't have a jetpack. I'm of the mind that a life playing only 3 or 4 different factory games is a life not worth living 😸, so I truly enjoy playing dozens of them!! For me, my first several hours playing a game like HexFactory are pretty much always going to be more enjoyable to me than my 400th hour playing Satisfactory. So adding a game like Foundry to my library is a no-brainer. Foundry is a game that I previously placed at the scale of say Junkpunk or Astro Colony, but they've added so much new to the game over the last couple of years, including vehicles and some innovative new concepts, that I think it has leapfrogged over those games and is likely now at the scale of Techtonica or beyond. Most of the new stuff I've only read about, so I'm eager to discover all that's been added. 😻 Satisfactory is just about at its 1.0 milestone. So it's an open question as to how much content is yet to come. Foundry is just now entering Early Access. Factory games currently in Early Access like Techtonica and Captain of Industry have been exceptional in pushing out meaty content updates and significant quality of life improvements. Other factory games haven't. We'll see whether or not Foundry is able to shine in this regard or not. Foundry supports multiplayer. While multiplayer games can bring another whole level of fun playing with friends, I've also seen them struggle to get meaningful content updates out in a timely manner due to working on problems supporting multiplayer. I've seen several indies and small dev teams in particular get bogged down by these issues. I've also heard many developers of multiplayer games speak of compelling new features they've had to drop because they simply couldn't get them working right in multiplayer. Hopefully, the Foundry team can quickly overcome and/or staff up to meet those challenges and keep the content coming. 🤞

Have you tried those glasses for people that are colorblind?
@Glidercat
@Glidercat Месяц назад
No, I haven't. My understanding is that the lenses shift/change colors that are hard for colorblind people to detect to different colors that are easier for us to detect and distinguish. For some reason, that doesn't appeal to me. I'd like to see colors as **accurately** as I can and lenses can't assist with that. Currently, I don't believe there is any technology that allows us to see all colors truly as they are. In day to day life, my colorblindness almost never presents an issue. It does come up fairly often in gaming, where color coding things for meaning is extremely common. Outside of gaming, I think the next biggest challenge is in shopping for clothes. At this point, I pretty much know which colors are in my weak detection range, so I either avoid those colors or check with someone who has full color vision first. 😺
@TheYear-dm9op
@TheYear-dm9op Месяц назад
@@Glidercat In not too much into that topic, but I thought they were pretty scammy at first. I'm not sure about that anymore, because I hear more frequently that they work. And they seem to work differently than I though. Something about the brain re-learning the shifted colors.Thus the effect is said to need some time to settle in. Like weeks or months. But like I said, that's only what I picked up. Could be just hearsay. At your level of color blindness I'd probably also not bother xD .

You've played a bunch of my favorites! 😻 You need to go play Captain of Industry if you haven't already! < chef's kiss > I also have close to 40 different factory games on my channel with more coming. You might want to browse my "Playlists" page for one's you may have missed. I'm just diving into this current Early Access version of Foundry, so I can only speak to first impressions at this point. I'd say it's not as complex as FortressCraft Evolved or Satisfactory, but it's probably easier to get into for players new to the genre. In fact, it's probably a game I'd highly recommend to new factory gamers. It has much more depth IMO than something like Builderment or Shapez, which are also awesome games for factory newbies. It also provides a new art style, a new set of challenges for automation ***enthusiasts*** like myself. I've often said that my first 20 - 100 hours in a new factory game are pretty much ***always*** going to be more enjoyable than my 500th - 600th hours in say Factorio or Satisfactory. This looks like a game from the same publisher of City Skylines which is a good game, but the graphics looks like that of a game from the early 2000s I assume because it's using a Unity or Unity like engine... The tablet level graphics which like Factorio I can get passed if the gameplay is great, but damn, you set a high bar for me to get over right out of the box. I mean Planet Crafter uses Unity, to my surprise, because they must have paid the extra money to get the Unity staff helpers to solve problems and make it look almost as good as Unreal Engine 5, signing the NDAs at the same time, but that happens rarely, rarely, indeed. The extra money the devs have to pay Unity to get the insider knowledge must be Uber expensive, given how few games look as good using Unity as Planet Crafter and probably Subnautica, than Satisfactory out of the box... IIRC the devs of Satisfactory literally changed engines from Unity to UE5 for that very reason... Not to mention how Unity recently thought exploiting their dev base to make more profit should have driven everyone away from using them to begin with. @4:40 e.g., look at the ground: there's no normal map applied, and the idea of distance changing tesselation never happened (you can do this in Unity too, I assume: the resolution gets less and less as you move away from the player because the player can't see the detail anyways, so why compute it.) That is beginner level stuff to do in UE4/5.

In researching games for my channel, I look at several hundred games each and every month. Believe me, just about every graphical style possible is present in the collection of new games coming out each month. Personally, I like the graphics and the aesthetic of Foundry. It's a nice complement to the other main games in the genre: Factorio, Satisfactory, Techtonica, Dyson, Captain of Industry, etc. They each have their own distinctive look and feel which I think is awesome! I tend not to spend time delving into the controversies of Unity vs Unreal, Steam vs Epic, AMD vs NVidia, Windows vs Linux, etc., etc. As far as games go, if they provide an enjoyable experience and/or temporary escape, then I call them a success. 😺

@@Glidercat I've just subbed to your channel recently, so I haven't seen everything you've reviewed. I think I sub'd for Planet Crafter, IIRC. To me, as a former graphics artist, when I see this specific look, I just think lazy or still learning... Though in Unity it's hard af to get anything to look good. I hope it's a fun game, cause that's what counts in the end, I just get put off by that kind of look at first. I'll watch more of the video before I make any decisions, but like Hydroneer, sometimes it just means bad graphics, bad gameplay. I'll see watching a few playthrus first... Cause I like the whole genre, and it keeps my mind active... Sometimes the last place a man can feel productive is in virtual worlds like now in the US, otherwise we are just the unwitting cause of all evil in the world, and I didn't know that until I was told it a thousand times by angry ppl, usually young ladies with blue or red hair, but these days they've disappeared, maybe because of the 91% compliance with the whackcination of unknown origin.

@jeffreyspinner5437
@jeffreyspinner5437 Месяц назад
@@baldfalk The issue is deeper than you think. IF you pay Unity Inc. the money for their consultants to help you, you can produce a pretty game. I've played DSP for a while, and it looks good, but UE5 is still better, but maybe a non-specialist wouldn't see it as easily, idk Not well known is that most of Unity's income comes from devs paying for this service and the data collected surreptitiously in the background they sell for profit. I've met devs on Unity's discord when I was learning Unity and realizing is it me, or is the engine two tiered or what, and then I met many devs that didn't have the money to pay the Unity consultants and they were stuck no different than I, but I was using the game engine to learn how to program and showcase my models... So, unlike those guys, I wasn't actively pulling my hair out. Like Blender, where its true power is unleashed only after you start to run 70 addons (no joke), where they also say you can get things done without any addon's, and that's completely false, because the world would end before you could complete a project, from the perspective of a game dev, Unity is predatory and deserves the flight to Unreal recently because of their non-competitive business practices they tried to pull treating their own devs like ppl to exploit unfairly. Unity got excessively greedy, think as greedy as Electronic Arts, but unlike EA, there are better alternatives.

Early Access has it's pro's and con's, that's for sure! One downside is that when playing an Early Access game you can grow tired of it well before it's been fully developed and then never go back to it. I've played several games very early in Early Access never to go back to them when they fully release. It's also common for the "1.0 full release" of games to be almost a non event these days. After years of playing in Early Access, many or even most players have already moved on to other games before the 1.0 milestone. However, one ironic upside to Early Access is that there are many games that don't necessarily get better as they move through EA. Sometimes those early versions of the game that capture the core essence of the game without unnecessary filler or fluff, turn out to be the most enjoyable versions. I've had that experience with quite a few games as well.
