History comes alive as you learn what lead up to the shootout & walk the same route as the Earps & "Doc" Holliday on that faithful day in 1881.

He didn't mention the fact that this was way before smokeless gun powder, and the ammunition in those days created a lot of smoke. And with all of those guns blazing, over 30 combind rounds fired, it would have been very difficult to see anything in front of you within seconds of the start of the fight.

Been on a Wyatt Earp Nostalgia kick today. People told my dad he looked like Wyatt Earp his entire life, which was hilarious because my dad was nicknamed “Lil Rick”, standing at 5’7. What people really meant is he looked almost exactly like Kurt Russel as Wyatt Earp, down to the sharp piercing eyes, jaw line and exact mustache. We spent more days than seems healthy quoting Tombstone to each other. He passed away February 3, 2021 after a long bout with COPD. Miss ya dad!

I wish this fellow was there when I was, 1995. We took a buggy ride because we had small children. One thing he didn't do was take them behind that wall to see the hideous fiberglass replicas of the Earp faction. It is supposed to depict where the fight started, and my memory is not good enough to remember how accurate it was. I do recall far too much space. We entered from Allen st and went through the O.K. Corral to get to the Fly's replica and the Land Grant Office, as I recall. Still good to go there, I recommend it to all western history buffs.

I think Addie Borland stated in her testimony that, she saw all the men gather in the alleyway, but when the shooting started, she ran to the rear of her home to avoid being shot by a stray bullet! Her home was relocated from Fremont St, to 3rd St…and is now the Four Dueces Saloon (no food)

The Earps: Northerners. James, Virgil, and their father fought in the Union army. Holliday: Born and raised in Georgia. His father fought in the Confederate army. The Clantons: From Tennessee to Missouri to Texas. Newman and his oldest son fought for the Confederates. The McLaurys: From New York to Iowa. Oldest brother fought for the Union. Claiborne: Born 1860, place unknown. Ringo: From Indiana to Missouri to Wyoming to California. Brocious: Possibly Indiana to Missouri to Texas. Stillwell: From Iowa to Kansas. His father fought for the Union. Behan: Missouri. Fought on the Union side. Maybe the "North vs. South" issue wasn't very divisive in the matter of the Earps' clash with the Cowboys. It seems most of the famous Cowboys were also northerners.

Love this dude, his information is spot on except for one thing. There were 10 people, the three Earps, Doc Holiday, both Clantons, both Mcclaurys, Billy Clayborne, and Wes Fuller. Fuller and Claybourne booked it just before the fight began, followed closely by Ike Clanton. R.I.P. - Billy Clanton, Tom and Frank Mcclaury. Holliday was grazed by a bullet on his right side, Morgan Earp was hit through the right shoulder, Virgil Earp was hit in I believe his left calf through testimony documents, and Wyatt was untouched.

Sidewinder narrator Hitchins missed the most important factor that led to the "Gunfight near the the OK Corral". In 1881, the same year as the gunfight, a monumental shift in the universe occurred. The Bird Cage Saloon, at 0:08 in the video, soon to be international star "Little Egypt" started dancing at the Bird Cage when she was about 12 years old. A full size painting of Little Egypt is still in the Bird Cage, bullet holes and all. Little Egypt introduced Middle Eastern dancing, also known as belly dancing, with the technical scientific name of "Hoochie Coochie" dancing. Did Little Egypt's provocative dancing so disrupt the world as it led to the gunfight? Little Egypt went on to be a sensation at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and then was a star in Europe. See RU-vid for the 1950s song "Little Egypt" by the Coasters

On top of all the political drama, the participants were probably firing using real gunpowder. After the first 2-3 shots they likely couldn't even see each other.
@teller121
@teller121 5 лет назад
black powder a little overrated for total obscuring a few feet in front of you. Most black powder stories seem to flow from the effects of volleys on civil war battlefields from 100s and 1000s of guns and cannon on hot, humid days in MD and VA in 1862-63. First few shots from a few handguns (one shotgun to one flank) no big deal. Just ask the Earps...only the Cowboy faction seem to miss.

Billy Claiborne was the cowboy who fled the fight but earlier in the film ‘Tombstone” he is called “Barnes”, I believe. Another real guy. And in the movie we all see “Frank McClaury” at the beginning of the gunfight with both a hat on and off. trivial nonsense of a fantastic movie. Here’s more. While so many Uberti guns were used in place of actual Colt single actions, Billy Clinton has a real Colt. But ironic that the guy with a real Colt has a blooper because the grips on it weren’t available in gutta percha material until a year later and in the 1890s for the ones “Billy” had. This crap makes my wife roll her eyes when I point it out.

not sure about the politics there being that lopsided against Earps. Clum, a New Yorker, was the Mayor; biggest paper in town, "Epitath," was anti-"Cowboy" and, after OK Corral, pro-Earp; only Justice of the Peace, Wells Spicer, who heard the post-OK Corral evidence against Earps and Holliday, was a New Yorker. AZ wasn't Texas. I'd guess 60-40 pro-Cowboy, at best. Guns unreliable? NO idea where he got that. Colt and Remington were main two revolvers and were of impeccable reputation for reliability and lethality close. Combatants young? So what!? Not counting coward Ike, oldest guy there was Virgil at 35, Wyatt at 33, Morgan 29, Doc 32, McLaureys somewhere in their early to late 20s. Woman across street changing her story? Who knows. Unless she was looking at the very moment first shots were fired, she wouldn't have seen the legally critical portion anyway. Pretty weak narration imo. And lose the silly pony tail.
@colinp2238

@@teller121 Guns back there weren't machine made and the bore was rough inside. The bullet travelling along the barrel would be bouncing from side to side and up and down so the last part that it hit in the barrel would determine the trajectory, that was fairly random. The reason you see that people get away from any fight situation is more fear of being hit accidentally. The picture you have of John Wayne firing Colts accurately over a half mile is pure Hollywood bs.

the real fight was not at the ok coral, it was a vacant lot next to a boardng house and the highway runs over it now. Its interesting how they have this walk to a fictional sight because the real one is gone. But come on people lets keep history acurate- tell people this is a "substitute" sight for the real one.
@bruceburnett1584
@bruceburnett1584 2 года назад
Interesting that every point you brought up was addressed in the video itself. Fremont Street was ALWAYS a super wide street. You can easily tell by the distance between Schieffelin Hall and the old city hall both 1880's buildings and quite far apart. The highway in no way shape or form runs over the lot, or the boarding house, the street was as wide then as it is now😉

T Ritchie from eyewitnesses accounts from the trial transcripts which you can find online. A lot of people in Tombstone believe that the earps where in the right in going down there. A lot of witnesses said that the clantons had guns and the earps were coming to disarm them. Also it didn't help that the Clanton's testimony at the trial were fishy and raised questions. While Wyatt seemed genuine. It is known that Ike lied in the trial to try and get revenge on Wyatt. Didn't help him. Now is the question did the Earps went down there looking for a fight or to really disarm them? We may never know because we weren't there and the witnesses has died off. I'm a big Wyatt Earp and Tombstone buff so I have studied the Ok Corral feud.

"crappy Guns" oh please...................
@teller121
@teller121 5 лет назад
yes, that was a major red flag on this guy. Colt, Remington...crappy? Just because powder wasn't smokeless doesn't mean anything as to immediate accuracy and reliability of the handguns involved. The US Army had purchased the 1873 SAA, .45 Colt, over eight years prior to this incident, with no complaints except from poor Indians. also, the fact that that the participants were young...so what? 18 is pretty young (though he purportedly wounded one of the earps), but the others were known to be pretty reliable guns. But regardless, I doubt they'd be less edgy had they been 45!
@johnnychaos152

I'm actually related to Doc Holliday. He was a cousin a few times removed on my father's side. He's documented to have carried a .38 1877 Colt Lightning Double Action. He had it custom made with nickel plating and an ivory bird's head grip. He was also known to have carried an old single shot percussion lock derringer in his vest pocket. I own a replica of his Colt and it's damn near the perfect sidearm. It's small, lightweight, and I've shot it probably 90 times without a single misfire. It was perfect for a guy who was 5'7 and 125lbs that had very little physical strength. Far from a "crappy" gun. Hell that little revolver is more reliable than my Glock.

I lived in Tombstone in the early and mid 1970's. Seeing this video today shows me a few things. #1) The Tombstone of the 1970's is for the most part totally unrecognizable from today. #2) Tombstone has become a fake clownish tourist attraction. #3) Tombstone has "updated" itself right out of history. I had thoughts of taking my grandkids to Tombstone on vacation. But after seeing this, I realized Tombstone no longer exists. Very troubled by this video.
