I didn’t realize that the auto stabilize feature caused so much of a camera issue from the 16 minute to 18 minute mark…. Sorry for the super close cam there! Whoops!
They seem to have a few chassis options for the MYZ engine, with the Twilight 2000/Blade Runner being one, with its 2 die of varying sizes model, then the Alien/Walking Dead with the stress dice, then the MYZ/Forbidden Lands/Tales From The Loop/Vaesen with the basic MYZ dice pool. Then you have the MYZ offshoots where they take several game elements of the system and rely on a different mechanic, like Dragonbane. Free League is really top notch!
Wow. This is a great review. I had no idea there was such much goodness in the game, particularly the solo rules. Since I’m a long-time zombies fan (I’m the sort who has Book of the Dead Ii: Still Dead as well as a copy of Book of the Dead with Edward Bryant’s signature on “A Sad Last Love at the Diner of the Damned”) and a big fan of YZE in recent years, all of this makes me very happy to hear. Thanks!
You are very welcome Mr. Reader. I was really excited about this video, and it was a bit of a letdown when I saw that 2 minutes of the video got disrupted by using the stabilizing feature in iMovie. I’m glad you enjoyed the review and hope you get a chance to smash some walkers and make it back to your haven in one piece!
Great review! Free League always pleases and the solo rules inclusion is very good! Not really interested in Zombie Survival TTRPGs right now but might pick this up one day (especially the core rules and the DM Screen).
I really enjoyed this and your other reviews. I think FL is one of the very best publishers out there. I ran the starter set for my group. I didn't know they weren't "into" TWD or zombies as a genre, but they really enjoyed that session. That's a real testimemt of the strength of the engine and how well FL implements settings.
Now this looks like an awesome system. I will have to grab this one. Warhammer underperformed? Say it ain't so. Lol thanks Games Workshop for running that IP into the ground.
lol. Maybe I set too high an expectation for WHFRP. It took out of the gates fast, but when it died off it really stopped dead in its tracks. I think it was well supported by the core audience, but didn’t get beyond there much. We are a small but mighty community! 😀. On another note, Walking Dead is really encouraging to me for solo RPG reasons. Over the last few years, Free League has done official solo modes for:Twilight 2000, One Ring, Vaesen, Dragonbane, Forbidden Lands and Walking Dead… if any game wasn’t going to get the solo treatment, I thought it was going to be the expensive IP related game. I think this is an indicator that FL is all in on the solo component of their games.
@@booksbricksandboards783 I am exclusively a solo RPG'er by choice. I don't enjoy group TTRPGs as much. If I'm getting together with friends to play games, I'd much rather play board games and card games. The increasing focus on solo TTRPGs is incredible to be a part of. I hope this trend continues for a long, long time.
I enjoy this Game a lot. Its greatly written also very astetic. Its my First free League Game actually. Thanks for your in depth Review, i feel i got the Rules right! I would suggest to Put the White Text in the middle Screen Up longer so its easier to read. Loved the Walking dead movie snippets by the way 😂
Lol. This video ended up a bit of a disaster… my camera decided to add an uncontrollable shaking to the whole thing, and then when I tried to run the software to remove shakiness, it ended up zooming into the center of the screen and not being able to see anything so I had to do some very creative edits to scrap together something that would work… I admittedly didn’t end up spending as much time on some of the smaller editing choices as a result. Definitely not my best video, but if you could see how I got there you would likely be surprised 😀. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
I was a KS backer for this, but yet to play, I have a lot of the FL YZ based games, love the system, and tailors well to the various genres and system they have implemented. Thanks for the informative and clear video... one observation, i feel like your vocals are little too far away, and the WD clips are noticeably louder, which is a little jarring for me, but otherwise, love it! I will now be watching a ton of your other vids.
Great table setup you got there! And endless supply of Negan fun 😅 Great review altogether. I actually jumped on the KS for this though I've yet to play. It's really quite amazing how FL tunes the YZE (or Y0E?) to all these different genres and universes.
If find the d6 dice pool system counting the sixes that come out fascinating. From a game design perspective it gives players a huge range that's likely to fall between a 51.8% chance and a 76.7% chance (4 to 8 dice). Getting that range where you fail enough that it doesn't seem to easy but you also succeed enough so it doesn't feel like you're failing all the time is tricky. Also even just two or three dice still gives you a chance and the chance of success doesn't rise excessively when you have more dice. Being able to roll all those dice feels cool too. In your experience playing this system, what would you say the average number of dice players roll is? D6 Dice Pool Probability Probability of rolling at least one 6 with this number of dice 1: 16.67% 2: 30.6 3: 42.1 4: 51.8 5: 59.8 6: 66.5 7: 72.1 8: 76.7 9: 80.6 10: 83.8%
It’s a different dice math than gamers are used to, so it feels a little weird and mysterious. I really like that they put tables in every game to show odds with and without a reroll. Once you put pushing a roll in there, the odds increase significantly… but then you are gaining stress (or taking damage in other versions of MYZ). It’s like a “Yes,but” result in more narrative games.
