The Wall Song is a tribute born out of the kindred creative spirits of poet Judy Gorman King and songwriters Mitch Townley and Brad Dunse. Mitch heard Judy present her poem, The Spirit Of The Wall, at a Nashville benefit for homeless veterans in March, 2008. She gave him permission to use the poem as the inspirational foundation for the song. Mitch invited his good friend, singer/songwriter Brad Dunse to collaborate with him and the project was underway. The Wall Song was recorded in Nashville in July, 2008 by artist J.P. Williams and produced by Chip Martin.
We pray that The Wall Song will honor our surviving and fallen heroes of the Vietnam War as well as any who have served in the Armed Forces.

my husband was a Marine in Viet Nam, he was a very decorated man, sharp shooter, recon. and saw and lived more then most could ever imagine. We had a chance to go to a reunion back in 1998 in Washington, It was the first time he had seen any of the men who were over there with him , he didnt know if they had made it back or not. We all went on a trip to the wall.. and I tell you the emotions were over whelming. You could feel the spirits of many of the men and women who's names are on that wall. Its a experience I'll never forget, and one my husband took to his grave with him.. as he couldn't handle the ghosts that haunted him on a daily basis and committed suicide in 2000.. So you see my heart goes out to all service men and women.. God Bless. and of course Semper Fi

So sorry for your loss. So many soldiers came back physically, but not mentally. My bro was in Nam and was never the same. I was the only one he would talk to about it. He eventually drank himself to death while he lived with me. I was in the Army, fortunately during peacetime, but I understood him. May the benevolent spirits watch over all of our Veterans and their families!!

I took my dad to The Wall in Oct 2012. It was his wish since returning from Vietnam to visit the wall. He layed a wreath at the base for his cousin who died there. As we walked away I had him turn around and watch as the people who were passing by stopped and read his wreath - looked at the picture of his cousin within the wreath. I told him: More than just you will be remembering him today dad. RIP Danny Crothers you are not forgotten

I hold the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge from Vietnam. The saddest sight at the Wall has to be the "Tree Vets," those soldiers who come so close to the names of their buddies that they reach the trees at the edge of the Memorial, then find themselves unable to continue on to the Wall itself. So many of us still have yet to even begin the journey. God bless them all.--Tom Reilly

Thank you for this thoughtful song. My cousin is on the wall. I remember the day he left for Vietnam, the day we found out he had been killed and the day of his funeral. I was only 12 at the time. He had always been good to me even though I was just a kid. When we met as a family after the funeral, I also remember looking into the crib to see the infant son he never got to meet and being sad he would never see his awesome Dad. Today I remembered Ronald Lowe and the sacrifice he so willingly made.

This past summer my dad and I went to DC and visited the wall. (My dad was in Vietnam.) I watched him go one by one to the names of all of his friends he lost in Nam, put his hand on the name and salute. 14 names he went to every one made him cry harder and in turn made me cry. R.I.P. He went to the vietnam memorial and just broke down sobbing saying "It should have been me" I was a new Afghanistan war vet at that time. Awesome song, and video. I heard somebody say if WWII was the greatest generation, the men and women that served in Vietnam were the greatest of their generation. I agree. Most didn't even want to be there, but they fought with honor, to protect their buddies. And got treated like shit when they came home. I was 17 when it ended, and 18 when I joined the Marines. I served with a lot that were there. I was proud to meet every one of them. Welcome home guys.

Being British I am grateful my country stayed out of Vietnam. I have seen that wall in Washington and in 1998 I went to Vietnam. I cannot imagine the hardships that those poor American boys went through, the constant terror never knowing when danger could come, the heat and the hostility of their own people when returning home. I remember a woman I met in Vietnam, I complimented her on her excellent English, she told me she had been married to a GI who promised to take her to America but he was killed in the Mekong Delta, so much misery and grief all around only time will heal the scars. Though my country stayed out of Vietnam and I know no one who fought in that war I give our American cousins my respect

@likesmilitaryhistoryalanmo9568
+Vapin Chevy Thank you, and thanks to your father. My own father is dead now,(He died in 1998) he fought in Normandy in WW2, I remember he never talked about the war, most vets don't , they just want to forget, not wanting to be reminded of that terrible times in their lives. Yet I can still see my father with tears in his eyes when he watched on TV as the queen placed a wreath of poppies on the Cenotaph (Memorial) in London. 50 years on and the sight of the Queen laying the wreath still brought tears to his eyes, somethings a person never forgets, no matter how hard he tries. I believe all veterans are deserving of respect, whether they fought in WW2, Vietnam or the Gulf, for people like me who has never been to war we cannot even begin to imagine what the vets went through and with many of them are still going though, the dreams and nightmares that will torment them for the rest of their lives.

I remember getting to the very edge, and I collapsed in a heap of tears and grief. Before my knee's hit the ground, I had to very strong hands under my arms. Honor guards, this was 1986. Two Marines sat with me for six hours until I could get to my buddies' names. I stayed until dark. They got me a taxi. I left a letter to "Clifford E. Bench". We had our birthday parties together as kids. He died two months before his 19th birthday. I got there a year after his death. I miss him. Damn I miss him

Even today, its very difficult for my father to express how it was for him over there. When he thought we would shun him, we only held him that much tighter. When he cried, we cried with him. When he tells his stories, we listen closely. When he gets that blank stare, we help bring him back. Every night before he goes to bed, he gets a hug, a kiss, and an "I love you". No, he doesn't often speak openly of it, but we know deep inside, under that calloused and hardened exterior, he knows he is our hero. On those gentle, loving reminders, he seems to stand just a little straighter, his eyes gleam a bit more proudly. He still is bitter about his welcome home, but he knows at least at here at home, he is truly loved and appreciated. Now its our turn, his children, to care for him. We now serve him with with honor, dignity, long deserved respect, and quiet service. You see, when a soldier goes to war, its not just the soldier that serves, but their family too. To all other veterans of any war, especially the Vietnam War, thank you from the depths of our hearts.

One of the most moving memorials I have ever been too. Was id D.C. for a pot parade, went to the wall to pay my respects, say to middle age guys hugging and crying - they hadn't seen each other since 1967. One wounded in combat, his buddy was medic who saved him. They had never had contact until they randomly met at the wall. I was a tough guy, attitude laden young adult, and I cried like a child. Most moving thing I've ever seen. Welcome home boys, you are loved ,respected for your service!

Thanks to all Vietnam Veterans. Also Welcome Home. I know many of you have never gotten that respect. My father and uncle are Vietnam Vets. Dad was USN Uncle was USMC Infantry. I still remember the first time dad took me to a replica "moving wall" in our neighborhood. They will never be forgotten.

I think about Vietnam everyday. I will be making my 3rd trip to The Wall on Veterans Day to read names. It is a privilege and honor to have served in Vietnam and I would do it again. It is with respect and honor that I visit The Wall, because I am here and they are not, and I will never forget them. I will visit The Wall as long as I can just to rememer those whose names are on The Wall. I only wish I could do more.

I'll vouch for that, touching the Wall is an experience. As a Brit I can only say it was my generation (72 now) but not my war. I walked it on 9/11 2003, next day I walked Arlington.

When my dad returned from Vietnam he returned to no fanfare or gratitude. When he arrived home a young girl spat in his face and called him names that I cannot repeat here. He stopped and wiped his face and told the girl that he pitied her. He then slowly walked away. I am glad to see the Americans of my generation welcoming our heroes home and treating them with respect.

Saw The Wall last month. I was own leave when my cousin was brought home. His name is on The Wall. He was first a Marine and was wounded. Was given a medical release. Then tried to get back in. The Army let him in and made him a tank comander...... that's when his name was put on the list for The Wall....He was a soldier threw and threw. 2 purple hearts, silver star and the best guy you could know!

Hi, Praiseingers!! Have we both noticed that the older we get, the faster the time goes?? The Wall will always be the same to those who understand its significance. We hear the words "thank you" all the time now. I just so wish that more of us had lived to finally be given the recognition, the respect, the honor that all veterans deserve. God bless.--Tom Reilly

Thank you for your service and God Bless. Been to the wall several times, with tears in my eyes. I'm always impressed with how quiet and respectful everyone is there. However, the last time, kids were running around playing and their parents were yelling at them or laughing. I couldn't take it and had to leave. Time moves on I guess the Wall doesn't mean the same to people who did live in that time. Hard to believe; we're getting old! It seems like a few years ago.

As i stepped off the plane, being assaulted with the heat and smell, i was too green to realize what was to come . I've been to the wall, wept like sooo many have. And wondering while i touch the wall, why them Lord and not me. Names i touch, memories i relive. What a heart wrenching song. Heart wrenching and beautiful at the same time. Too many names, too many memories.

The war was over, 2 years, when I came of age. I found myself immersed in study of the war for years. I decided my studies would not be complete, until I went to the wall. In 1987, I was able to complete that goal. I still cry just thinking of walking among all those names. Thank you, to all vets out there!

I'm a carrier sailor and proud member of "The Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club", who never got close enough to shake a fist at our enemy, but it always has given my heart a great feeling when an in country soldier tells me how we were part of the team, or tell me a story of how our A-4's saved their butts and thank me for that, even we navy men and carrier sailors have our own ghosts and guilt, but we respect the in country guys more than anyone else and were glad to have helped you guys get home in one piece, like I did keep on friends justasinger54

Vietnam Veteran,68-69. I went to view the wall in the early 80s with two small and busy children. As we walked along the wall reading the names my to kids became totally quiet and respectful without my coaxing. Even today I think of the power of that monument.

I'm glad I found this song among my suggestion list. I'm not in any shape or state to fight for my country but having my grand father, father, uncle and big sister in the forces at one time in their life it has taught me many things. I will always support the troops and honor those who died. I want to visit the wall one day and pay my respects and just say "Thank you" to all of the soldiers who died for us. These are the real Heros.

In my comment above I was relating how shitty my dad was treated when he came home. I also wanted to point out that people of my generation (today) are treating our returning veterans with respect here in the US. I, myself, am a persian gulf veteran and have received no disrespect from anyone since I've been home. I love and repsect my dad very much.
