I haven’t seen any at my local Walmart yet. I will keep my eye out for it. It’s like you said, the hardest part is finding the lady with the key to the knife cabinet. Thanks John.
It's a nice looking knife. I think it's worth buying and checking it out. If its junk never buy another one. Walmart is new in the industry of knife making but worth checking it out I think. AUS 8 isn't the best steel but with the right heat treatment it can perform well, Buck is well known for doing a great heat treatment they're probably the best in the industry with heating 1095. Thank you for the review, TK. 😊
This knife is really nice. It's my favorite food knife. The sheep foot blade is good for chopping and the clippoint blade is good for processing meat. Came hair popping sharp too, which was a surprise to me as i didn't expect that from anything at Wal-Mart lol
It's a Barlow ......... that's enough for me . ( To paraphrase W . R . ..I never met a Barlow I didn't like . ) I'll find a use for it . Good to see you again , hope you're well . Great video . Peace ✌️ , Be Free .
I've carried and used a Barlow since I was 8 years old. The sheepsfoot blade is a good idea. Particularly on a goat and sheep farm. Can you trim a hoove with any old blade, sure but when you have a handy sheepsfoot blade, it goes a lot easier, with less chance of sticking yourself with the blade. I wouldn't worry about that clip being so thin. It a carving whittler so it's fine.
There he is John is back in action again……. You haven’t did a video in quite some time……… good seeing back in the game…….. I haven’t seen one of them in my Walmart yet I’ll find one sooner than later…….. thanks for the review stay well and be safe 😊
I have a doppelt and love it. It's what I consider an EDC Barlow, since with a bone handle you have to be more careful not to drop it so as not to crack the handle scales.
I’m not a real big fan of the Barlow pattern, but I like the looks of this knife. I’ve got one of the Swiss Tech “Wurdig” knives, which has held up well, so I am considering this one. I’d like to look this knife over before purchasing, but my local Walmart never has them (or much of anything else, for that matter) in stock. Thanks for the info TK.
Thanks… 🙄🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😂 Had to go to my local Walmart and pick one up! I walked up to the case and the lady asked me if I wanted something out of the case within 20 seconds of walking up! 😂👍 ❤️ I didn’t have any modern style Barlows. Absolutely love this knife! If I had the money I would have bought 2! I oiled mine with mineral oil and it opens and closes smooth and has helped a little with the walk and talk! I also painted the logo with some Red paint to add a little color. I believe it’s pronounced “Dopple” The “T” is silent Doppel as in “Doppelgänger”. Doppelt I also believe is “Double” in German.👍 This is now my new EDC blade for a while! I didn’t think I needed another knife… 🙄🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ But I guess I did! 😂👍 Keep the Great videos coming! “Swiss-Tech” started out with small keychain/pocket multitools. I remember “REI” (Sports/Camping supply co) carried Swiss-Tech. They also made bike multitools.
Great information Ichiban. Walking up to the case and having someone waiting on you is a rare sight, glad you had a simple experience in getting it. Cheers!
@@ThriftyKaniffy Thanks! I started laughing when the lady asked me! I immediately thought of your video. I literally watched it 20 minutes before I went to Walmart! 😃🍻😃 (Booger McGee)
This looks awesome! Really like it! Would have been nice to see the sheepsfoot nail nick on the opposite side of the blade. I like the bolster stamp with no shield. I see the back springs don't go all the way to bottom. Are those carbon fiber spacers at the bottom of the back springs?
I’m coming around a little bit more, to the whole modern slip joint knife thing. It def intrigues me. This one reminds me of a weird vintage Valor Japan folding hunter I have, where it’s a clip point and instead of the normal skinner, it has a big old sheep’s foot just like this. I like the big sheep’s foot, not a titanium fan really, especially coated blades like a few rough Ryders I have. Just not my bag aesthetically. But this is def interesting and affordable, and it’s a nice looking piece. Thanks for sharing!
Just picked this up on clearance at Walmart for $22. It's fine, but the nail groove sucks so bad on the clip point. Hard to open. The sheep foot opens nice though.
Hey TK great review. Did you think it was good value? It looks like a cheap knife pretending to be an expensive one to me... I'm not a knife snob but I think there are a lot of better knives available at that price point or less....
Awesome Review! I've seen them at the Walmarts around me but I've definitely made up my mind not to get one. Not a fan of that clip point blade. I do like the murderer out look but I would have liked a spay or pen blade as a secondary blade.
As you said, the tip is pretty tippy, should be used for light use. New slip-joint owners should use caution when piercing a plastic sealed package 📦 or anything for that matter; piercing a package the wrong way can result in the blade coming down on your fingers, please use caution when using a non locking knife, even experienced users can get cut.
@@ThriftyKaniffy I'm being picky. Black coating on the blades and the body, and a sheepsfoot(?) blade as opposed to a pen knife blade makes it seem like something else...again just me being picky. 😉
