I am an African American mom and my husband and I grew up with the Waltons. We even took on some of the attributes of the family, like saying good night to everyone, praying together and at mealtimes. I still watch it at almost 60 years old. Our children 25 - 32! It was a show of substance and value!!! Love it!!❤👍🏾
I'm engaged in my first revisit of the series since its inception. I watched it as a kid for a few years, but never caught the reunions in the 90's, and it just went off my radar. I started about 2-3 months ago and am watching season 6 - so much I forgot, but key appearances and events send me right back to 1972-1977. Judy Norton has a RU-vid channel which includes interviews she holds for her on-screen siblings.
I never looked at the Waltons in the 70’s but boy am I hooked now. The series helps me to calm down after a hectic day. I love the family values and wholesomeness that comes with each episode.
This show transcended many barriers that sadly would be present nowadays. I was addicted to the show back in the 70s, even though our parents strictly imited our TV watching time. My brother always wanted to watch Hawaii 5 O or Mannix, but he sometimes lost out to the rest of us wanting to watch The Waltons. Such a good show with authentically real values worth emulating. 😊
I can't believe Richard Thomas is 70 years old!!! I just went to Wikipedia and found that out. That show was one of the best family shows ever!!! Little House on the Prairie was another great one. We sure could use another show like this, especially in this day and age. What a blessing that show was.
I am a 53 year old Virginian, the Hamler house is a few counties north. I can assure you that this show is very much like many people grew up. The moonshiners, store keepers, going to town, working hard, and fearing God. It was a well depicicted show.
I'm sorry all- I was reading comments accidentally replied with Q1. I loved The Walton's and tried to never miss a weekly show. It was a real family show.
I grew up watching the show and I loved every episode. When it was time for it to leave the air I happened to be in high school and myself and another young lady we circulated petitions and Got signatures and sent them off trying to keep the show on the air. And I still watch reruns today
To see a show that constantly reminds you of Truth, Honor, Integrity and Love takes me back to my own roots of my family back then. Sometimes I wish people today would watch the Waltons. It is so much they could learn and value.

I agree because the show cover how the great depression and war and growing up poor but having family and God and general store and a one room class people needs to learn this is what it was like in the 20"s all the way up to 1980 people dropped out of school to help their families and a lot got on drugs and some went to work in factory's others got GEDs . But now a lot of people don't know what family or God even church is
I found out in 2014 that he lived in Studio City, CA, about 5 miles from me. I started writing a letter to him about how much the show had meant to me and my two daughters after their dad and I separated. My current husband had a heart attack before I finished the letter, so it never got sent. :(
I think this was the best show ever. We learned sooo much from it. Looking back....it was a stepping stone in life we cherished and treasurer as an audience. I remember there was no new technology...the radio was the way you got the news. And if you did have a radio back then you valued and respected it.
I was born in 1970 and grew up watching the Walton's. Me and my husband still watch it today. We love it and never get tired of it. I can imagine how sad it must have been when it all ended. Especially since the show never even called them to let them know it had been canceled.
Sept 30,2023 I must admit I still watch the Walton’s daily. I’m 63 and have watched from the start. I lived in Virginia and passed by this mountain often. It’s is beautiful country. I miss it greatly. This show will never die and so thankful to them all for this beautiful gift. Many blessings .
Yes indeedy the World would be such a better place if all families were like the Waltons but then life ism like that all families are different and God gave us all our choices. 💕
Yes we do need more show's like the waltons family like we all grew up together like we all say good night at the end at the night and things that we were all thought about family values
I'm now 64. I watch the Walton's every chance I get. I've got so many of the series recorded and I don't erase them. My heart goes out to everyone of the "Walton" children. To see them on one of the most famous television shows ever, and then to hear how all there lives have turned out after the great and wonderful show ended. My love and prayers goes out to Erin and Ben. The trials of Ben losing his wife just brought tears to my eyes and pain to my heart. Erin for the sickness that she endured from something that should never have been invented or not educating young women of the possible risks. How sad. All and all, I've never met any of those people, but I pray that God will continue to enrich their lives. They brought so much to into our own lives. Each and everyone of them has been an inspiration in my own life. God bless to all of you.
When I was an over the road truck driver, I remember driving in Virginia, by the mountains, and seeing a sign with an arrow pointing to the mountain behind it saying "Walton family house on the mountain mountain museum", and if I wasn't driving a semi, I WOULD have gone up the mountain to view the house! I grew up watching them on Thursday nights on CBS. I was only allowed 1 hour of TV per day, and I saved the 1 hour on Thursdays just for The Waltons. Nowadays all the kids want are violence and rudeness, when they actually need more shows like The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie! They taught us about: family, love, sticking together and the REAL American way!
I grew up watching The Waltons and now I'm watching again! I'm fascinated that Richard Thomas and I share the same birthday!!! Many episodes give me goosebumps and tears...just a wholesome show❤
I just purchased the entire DVD set of the Waltons and I also own the entire DVD set of Little House On The Prairie, Hands down the two most heartwarming shows to ever air on TV.
One of the best tv shows ever!! It was clean, uplifting and a show the whole family can watch. I watch the re-runs now!! My stepmother said her life was alot like the Waltons, she had 15 siblings though. The children picked cotton before school and after school. They bathed on the weekends in the creek and washed out of a large bucket of water during the week. She never regretted her life growing up. Her and her family has passed away but I always think of them fondly.
As a kid I did not mind being poor or even that I had to work. What I minded was the complete lack of love and the child abuse I suffered. But, that is what happens when you were a mistake child that was never wanted. Had there been love and care, the sky would have been the limit, needless to say.
@@PracticalPerry So sorry, I do care about you, and I also felt no love at home (I was an only child before Mom remarried & had 2 more). When I learned to love the Lord, & then learned to feel His love for me, it healed me. Hope this helps!
@@yvonnelake3296 None of the above. I was orphaned at birth, and grew up in an institution 'till age 18, then out on my own. Thanks for asking. Wishing you a Happy New Year. Additionally, I am not heterosexual, and growing up in Oklahoma and not being straight was no fun let me tell you. My severe depression interferes with everything.
They remind me of my mom's family. There were 15 children in her family. They grew up on a farm during the depression. They had hard times but their faith in God and love got them through.
I grew up watching the Waltons with my parents. I'm 60ty now and still remember night John boy night Mary Ellen and I remember that the Waltons always said their prayers at supper.it was the best show about American people growing up in the depression .there isn't a show in today's world that even come close to the Waltons show.

I sure love all of you!! My tears are just rolling... I feel line I grew up with all of you!!! Thank you so much for being on on here to share your lives with me. God Bless
Just before this show made its debut, a writer for the Detroit Free Press said it was too wholesome for our times and would likely be dropped. But he begged his readers to please give The Waltons a chance because he felt the show was so deserving. He was right!
So, I am 49 years old and just started watching the Walton's last year. I was drawn into this family because I could relate so much to the family. I am the last of 9 and we were poor, but didn't really know it. My parents provided what we needed, we grew up in a city so we didn't grow our own foods or have a family business to get us by, my father was a cook and my mom was disabled by the time I came along, 7 years between me and the 8th child. My mom was a seamstress and she would sew all of our clothes and food was cooked for us. I watch the reruns on this show everyday, and every time I watch an episode I pick up something new.
There is no other series like The Waltons.I tape, them, watch them over and over.I just love the cast.Whoever selected the cast members surely got it right
It's Sept. 2021 and I'm 70 years old; I watch 4 consecutive Walton's programs on the Hallmark channel EVERY night. If I can't stay up so late one night, I'll DVR the 2a.m. episode to watch the next day! I loveLOVE LOVE the Waltons!

When I hear that great song it makes me think of my hero grandpa, I was 8 years old when he died in 1977! I would stay the night with him & my granny on occasion, we lived a mile or so across the “holler” I would sleep with my grandpa, my grandparents slept in separate beds & rooms! He came by that evening in his truck & asked if I wanted to stay the night with them, I remember it was in July & hot!! My dad which that was his parents, wouldn’t let me spend the night with them & kind of glad because my grandpa had a massive heart attack that night in bed & if my dad would have let me stay the night that night I would’ve been in the bed with him!!! He taught me to drive when I was 7, drive the tractor 🚜 too, work on the farm with him & the chicken houses as well! Before I was school age he drove a school bus for the school that I would later attend in my home town but before I was of age to go to school, I went on his bus route with him & would spend the day with him & some other older men & learned a lot at a young age!!! Needless to say I’ve missed him ever since
To this day The Walton's is my very favorite show of all time. I loved Erin so much that my 31 year old daughter is named after her. I never tire of watching The Walton's. I would like to say thanks to each one of you for bringing so much happiness into my life each week. May God bless each one of you. You all were and are such a blessing to me. Thank you all.

What a lovely group of people. The writing, narration, acting were truly amazing. Loved every episode. When I watched it I never remember thinking it's just a show, they are actors. They always seemed like a real family.
My grandmother hated the show, reminded her of her life, my granddad thought it was BS, he was an adult during the 30s. I loved it. Made me want to be apart of a family that cared about each other and had each other's back. My family was too busy trying to cut each other's throats.
I'm 45 years old and I've been watching this show since I was little. I ordered the collection and watch it each and every day. I have a condition called Conversion Disorder and this show calms me when an attack occur. It helps me to escape the world that we're in now. I love this show.
The Waltons and Little House were my personal inspirations for how *family* should be. I was determined to find the right husband and to raise our children (and grandchildren) with the same values and love. We did. We raised 4 children and have 5 beautiful loving grandchildren. We are a close, supportive, grateful, simple, loving and noisy family that get together at least once a week and all live very close to each other. These 2 shows literally gave my generation a solid example of how life SHOULD be.
I'm 57 years old, I watched this programme at age 7years old. So this programme is 50years old! Not 30years old that the commentator had said. I never missed a show, I felt part of their family, I absolutely loved it. Wish I could go back to them times, where life was full of love and fun! When summer's were summer's and they just went on and on, I didn't want to grow up. I don't like these times we living in now. To much heartache and pain in these days, anyway I could go on and on, but I won't, I'm thinking yall know what I mean xo.
I'm 57 and I watched the show when it first ran in the 70's, then repeats in the 80's, and now I'm watching it again in 2019. It never "gets old" because it stands for everything that's good in this world.
And here it is June 3rd 2020, I'm going on 61 and still watching Little House on The Prairie and the Walton's every Mon - Fri., Afternoon. Awesome Shows For The Whole Family.
I passed along the Waltons to my children who grew up in the 2000’s. We could watch every episode as a family, safely, and we’re better off for it! They loved it as much as us!
Ellen Colby and Will Geer played the best grandparents I loved it when he give grandma trouble . They were so beautiful together and made a great pair of grandparents. Reminds me of mine grandparents
I used to watch The waltons religiously.. They were my escape from an abusive husband. And at the time my only source of serenity. I love The waltons to this day. xo
What is great is that you can still find this show on TV or buy the DVDs and watch them whenever you like. Videos like the one above help to remind us that these actors are all human beings, just like the rest of us and they too, realize how special that show truly was and is.
I loved and still love and watch when possible I never had a good loving childhood or loving parents that made u feel loved I tell my son and neice 2 times a day I love u gmorning or gnight love u your loved ones your children are very precious they need to hear the words I love u u are the most important thing in my life ❤❤❤
Watching this in Lockdown. Loved this programme so much. John Boy was gorgeous and Richard Thomas is still a handsome man. They all seemed to have grown into well rounded people. Happy memories. Wish there were programmes like this around today. Keep safe everyone.
@Ophelia Fountain where did you hear that Richard Thomas passed away? I looked it up and read it was a false rumor , it was another actor that died in a car accident not Richard Thomas.
Not too smart if you don't double check background checks on the actors current state of being whether they're dead or alive as well as what they look like today because there are so many lies about them today that what is on these these videos are total B-S and has often cost me a lot just to clear it all up to protect their names as there is so much meanness put out about them in these publications!!!!!....
When our son was born in 1973, he was John, Jr. Of course he was our "John-Boy" At times we slip up and still call him that....This epic series probably has been one of the absolute best. So enjoyed this review.
We had supper every night and watch the Waltons! Our 4 children grew up with y’all! We all laughed and cried with y’all! Thanks for your sacrifices as children!
I watched the Waltons every week on Thursday night. It calmed me and was a reprieve from a stressful life. Once my husband realized how important the show was for me he did everything he could to interfere with my enjoyment. Since then I have added to my guilty pleasures and he’s not one of them.
My family was a lot like the Waltons. We didn't have a grandma and grandpa but there were actually more of us than there were of the Waltons because there were 9 of us and we also were extremely poor. My parents had lived through the Great Depression and when I was born they still had that depression mentality and that's how I was raised. When I say "depression mentality" I mean we were taught we must never waste anything. We didn't have to put a certain amount of food on our plate but once it was on our plate we were expected to eat it because it was unthinkable that we would let it be wasted. We ate fairly well because we grew a huge garden and mom canned LOTS of vegetables to see us through the winter but we very seldom had meat of any kind. There was no air conditioner or even an electric fan to see us through the hot summers and the only heat in our house came from a pot bellied stove where we burned wood because coal cost money and we could go out back and cut all the wood we needed for free. We had no phone. We had no television. We had no running water and no indoor plumbing. Sometimes mom made our skirts and blouses and dresses and shirts out of patterned sacks that we got when we bought a 25 pound bag of flour or sugar. Things that Mom could not make by hand, like blue jeans and shoes came from a junk shop downtown. Such places would not be called "Thrift Stores" for another 30 or 40 years and an old lady named Taylor ran the junk shop and mom called it "Taylor's Fashion Shop" and she would say that we needed to go to "Taylor's Fashion Shop" to see if we could find a pair of shoes for my brother Jim. By the way, there was none of the modern thinking that "if we buy something for one child we have to buy something for every child" because there simply was not enough money for that. If Mom and Dad could scrape together enough money to buy Jim a pair of shoes at the used clothing store, it did not even enter the mind of any of the rest of us that we would get shoes too. And, BTW, we were okay with that. I knew that when I was the one who desperately needed another pair of shoes it would be my turn to get shoes and Jim would know that he had already had his turn and this was NOT his turn. I was talking to my oldest sister a while back and I asked her why she thought we were okay with just the child with the greatest need being the only one to get whatever. I asked her, 'Did Mom and Dad just ingrain in us that just because one child was getting something did not mean that all the rest of us would get something too?" My sister's response was, "We were just not jealous of each other." Maybe that's it. If Jim needed the shoes I was very happy for him to get the shoes and it never occurred to me to be upset because I was not getting shoes too! By the way, we actually played...outside...with each other to entertain ourselves because we didn't have a TV to watch. We played games like Tag, Kick the Can, Hide N Seek, or Red Rover, Red Rover and I do not recall ever whining to Mom or Dad, "I'm bored". If any of us had said such a thing to them they would have handed us a hoe and said, "Go hoe the corn if you're bored." We also played board games like checkers (Dad made the checker board on a big piece of cardboard and we used white and dark colored buttons for checkers) or dominos and we read....a lot... and we all sang together while one of my older brothers played the guitar. Our lives were not about STUFF. Our lives were about each other. When I see the Waltons, I see US and it makes me homesick.
What a privileged upbringing you had, despite having nothing! You had all that is really worthwhile and that’s better than riches. I too was poor but we were taught values through our good God fearing parents. The world was a much better place then. We have lost so much, but today’s youngsters will never see it that way.
The Waltons n Little House on the Prairie were my life savers. You see, despite from being from a colourful n broken background, these shows provided me with a model that family life need not be like the one I was in. These shows taught me honesty n integrity.
The inventor of television, Philo Farnsworth, would be thrilled to read your comment as THAT (learning and growth) was his intention of what "tv" could do for Americans.
I really enjoyed this program, seeing the cast members and how much they meant to each other, and their lives afterwards. I wish I too could have grown up with a loving family like theirs.
Well, if we watched the show, we kinda did. Thank God. I know what you mean, and looking back, l can see that l borrowed the values and attitude of the Waltons for my own family, as a mum. It really helped me. 🙂❤🫂
My daughter bought me the whole Walton séries for Christmas on Cds. Best gift I ever received. Enjoyed every minute of it. What a cast! What a show! Truly inspiring! Thank you from the bottom of my hearth!

The Walton's came on the air when I was 20 and my 11 year old granddaughter is enjoying it now. In my family we are at 3 generations enjoying the show.
Its 2021 I'm 45 years old and I still watch the Waltons. My kids are 17 and 22 and they grew up watching it just like I did. We still watch Little House on the Prairie too. Grandpa and Mary Ellen are my favorites. The old tv shows are better than the new stuff they are putting on tv now a day's.

His father was born in Paintsville, KY. I saw Richard there one afternoon at the lake marina. He was a nice guy. They (he) visited his parents often when they retired back to Kentucky.
I remember watching The Waltons when I was a child. Never missed a episode. I am so glad that Hallmark channel and MeTV have this show. I remember my mother telling me about her childhood in the Great Depression.
I was born and grew up in Mexico City in a very dysfunctional family where we suffered so much abuse that my escape was The Little House on the Prairie, and later The Waltons, how much I starved for a family like them, I still watch the reruns when I can and still love them, thank you!!
I've always loved the show, back in 1995,I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.and living here in Virginia the best hospital for me was Charlottesville,so why I was in there I had a small 7 inch DVD player.and god love her my oldest sister rita would go out and buy me each season of the waltons tv series show.and now I have the whole complete series, from start to finish.and still out a different season and watch it ever now and then.i even when to the house where earl hammer lived once and it didn't look anything like the house on the show now,and talk to and met some of his family to!!!!!
I loved the Waltons, it made my childhood much happier. I watched it in New Zealand, it got down there too. Love this reunion and how they all got on so well. So lovely to see.
I grew up in ireland in the 70 s in dire poverty in foster care the Walton's became the family I never had years later it's still a pleasure to watch it again loved the family as well as ike yancey Baldwin's and all the other wonderful people in the show it's sad today how everything has become so nasty and divided good old fashioned values are mocked
This show represents my life back when it was safe and simple. No technology, kids playing outside in trees or the creek, going to bed with the front door unlocked, kind neighbors, family dinners every night and everything else that was good.
Donna G. Those days are gone forever. I remember back in the 60's and 70's growing up in a rural area in a small town in Texas. Families was important back then, We always had dinner TOGETHER every night. I miss those days. Less violence and confusion back them
Argerine Jordan I miss them too. I try really hard to still carry on a few childhood traditions such as dinner together or outside activities but it is definitely difficult with all the technology.( cellphones, tv's, Ipad etc.)
I agree with what all you guys are saying! How the hell did we allow the world to become such a horrible place in such a short space of time!? Despite the problems that existed then, i wish it was the 70's again... \m/ (:o)
Mine too. All of my Uncles on my dads side had dairy farms that we would visit regularly. We had a lot of fun playing in the hay mow and seeing the cows. My Moms parents had 30 acres of woods to explore with a pond. Literally, over the river and through the woods. We went to their house every Sunday after church. Grandma would always serve ice cream.
I love this family and this show, I admire the love, unity, and sharing 💜 ❤ 💖 and more so,caring for one another. Every step they made, their thoughts are together.
When I was young I never miss any episodes of the Walton Family it's a beautiful family show, its a very nice show that is a lesson into some.... staying together as a family I so loved it.❤️ I wish more shows like that on TV than these shows are on TV nowadays. GOD bless to all the survivors of the Walton Family 🌹
Beautiful series.Sensitively written. All the characters were perfect.Great natural acting everyone.I really loved it.The WALTONS series and the film TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD really touched me.💚
I missed when Ellen Corby had her stroke but definitely missed seeing her Then when she was back Grandpa was gone it was so touching do to the realness
I agree Judy! Our grand children need to see and learn how great it is to live a happy, healthy family life. We do our best to provide that example of love, kindness and valuing every family member for their unique attributes…, so hope we’ve set good example for them.
To this day I still use the phrase "Good night John Boy, Good night Mary Alen" at the end of my shift at work. The Waltons are memories of my childbhood!
My sister, brother and me always said that every night! Lol! I've said it to my kids when they were younger- they probably were wondering what I was talking about!
Me growing up at the same time and named Mary Ellen after my Gramma, I got the goodnight Mary Ellen, goodbye Mary Ellen, all the time. Smelly Ellen, too, but not hairy Ellen. It made and makes me smile
I enjoyed the walton's it's down to Earth and y'all taught me a lot about life and how to live in this old world i enjoyed each one who was on the show i know y'all had struggles from time to time life isn't easy for any of us put jesus first you Will never go wrong he is my best friend i had many struggles in my life but praise the Lord I made it through IAM 74 now ànd i knew Bob Barker personal my mother work with him for 18yesrs wish you were still on i got a set of the waltons from my heart dr two years ago have watched them over and over again enjoy them y'all are great wish i could meet y'all i live in Laplace louisiana ZIP 70068 Right now you'll take care thanks for doing the Pam Cook 9852127301
But even though they are based on true stories, they aren't reality. There is a lot that is whitewashed out of the stories, and selective and protective memory there was no perfect time where people where better.
My daughter is 35 years old and will call me and ask what I'm doing. I reply watching The Walton's. She says Mommm. Lol. I do and will always watch and love them. Im from a large family as well, and was raised in the very same way but my Father was in and out, but Mother keep us on the same upbringing. I'm turning 61 on Oct 2nd and with the way times are in these days, you need something that will take you back to some great memories. I will always cherish this show. Thank you.
