The Waltons - conclusion of my chat with David Doremus (GW Haines) We talk about GW being killed off. His time and relationships with the cast of Nanny and the Professor. Juliet Mills, Richard Long, Kim Richards and Trent Lehman. His own family traditions of saying "Goodnight" - his close bond with David Harper and other Walton cast members.

As an extra comment,I just wanted to add that I thought it was so sweet to hear that David Doremus and David Harper are good friends. They appear both so intelligent in a laid back,humble kind of way. And as you said,the Waltons family members stick together. All of you are special in unique ways!

David is SO right--you all DID make your characters "come to life" for your audience--and maybe for each other. David is so down-to-earth and comfortable in his own skin. He doesn't have to put on airs or over-act; he is real, believable, charming and witty. I could see David having a good friendship with David Harper, who is also quite grounded, yet creative and insightful. Thanks, Judy for making his visit into three enjoyable segments. Mr. Doremus was quite philosophical re having learned of G.W.'s death in advance and how he conducted himself as a performer with the rest of the cast- to say nothing of how he was surprised how upset it made the fans. Interesting,too, that his having been raised by a military father to focus on ontask conversations rather than to get distracted by offtask toys opened the door to the agent Mary Grady taking him on as a client when he was a young child. BTW, it needs to be noted that Mrs. Grady was the mother of the performers Don Grady (who played the hot-tempered,intense Robbie on 'My Three Sons' before becoming a renowned musical composer including the 'Donahue' theme) and the tragic Lani O'Grady (who played the eldest daughter Mary on 'Eight is Enough'). .and their actual surname was Agrati. Yes, it was sad that he wasn't able to get together with his troubled onetime 'Nanny and the Professor' costar before the latter's suicide but I hope he realizes that them at least talking a last time may have been a bright spot in the last part of that man's life. On a happier note, great that he's resumed his friendship with Mr. Harper in recent years. Also, fantastic that he took the whole "Goodnight, John-Boy!" with him to use re his own RL family to the present day to bond! BTW, I DID see Part Two but didn't comment on it in time. However, I thought it was a bit much that they had G.W.'s horse behind a barbed wire fence which, regardless of young Mr. Doremus's whether jaunty athletic leap over it had been successful, could have easily risked the human and equine performers getting sliced- as opposed to a more conventional [and attractive] wooden fence. Anyway, thanks so much for this!

Love how David shares but does not seem like bragging." Good night ginger bread goat" (season 6:11 The Flight). So true about Waltons traditions! I see a future show called Waltons Generations. We need a family show with depth on prime time and not another superficial cop crime show or sitcom. Thank you David for the explanation about why GW was killed. It made sense but the grenade throw delay seemed out of character. They should have said you were saving another soldier from a runaway vehicle. Good day Judy, Judy for prez 2024... Why? Because she delivers. You delivered another great ( unexpected ) episode with DD. It was interesting to hear him talk about GW being killed off. Actors are killed off for different reasons. Like asking for a raise or wanting to be released from their contract. Next thing you know that actor was written off as having died in a car accident or had a fatal fall off a cliff or something. D. Harper is just a good friend that stays in contact with DD and Hal Williams and others. D.H. is just someone you want in your life. DD is a fun guy that brings a smile to your face. Well done 3 part series. Have a question for you. What season would you call your favorite season of the Waltons? Thanks Judy.
@judynorton2598
@judynorton2598 2 дня назад
Thank you for your kind comments. I recall years ago people said “if John Walton ran for President he would win”. I could understand that as the character was someone with integrity who you trusted. Favorite season is a tough one. First 5 seasons are my favorite - but within that. hard to say. Season 5 was full of great episodes, but I love when we were all still children in the first season.

Loved Dave’s character as GW. Sad when he didn’t return. His role and acting was a nice touch to the Waltons. Also it was so nice to experience how the Waltons always accepted the various characters as family.

Another wonderful interview with David. Although it is fun to think about the possibilities of amazing story lines had GW not heen the first casualty, that episode ranks within the top 10 best TV episodes of all times. David, like GW, is an incredibly lovely, warm-hearted, and humble human being. Please thank him for his time and efforts and for his much appreciated and treasured contributions to our beloved The Waltons series. 🎉🎉❤❤

This was another interesting conversation with David Doremus,focussing on his intelligent side. Not only does he have a phenomenal memory,but he is also able to think on his feet and adapt. Learning 600 lines,and quickly, requires a good memory but also the ability to put yourself into the character and into the scene. Judy,you mentioned before that you also had an ability to learn your lines quickly. Do you think this was facilitated by placing yourself into the character and scenario of the role you were playing? And perhaps a photographic memory is also helpful?
@judynorton2598
@judynorton2598 2 дня назад
For me it is a “zone” I can get into - but I do visualize the lines on the page so I can tell where I am in the scene.

This is about an episode from season 6 The Childrens Carol. I watched it tonight and I saw something I hadn't noticed before. When Verdi is delivering her cakes she comes to Thelmas house. Thelma opens the front door and in the dim light I saw written on the outside of the door the words "Board Room". The letters aren't real bold but it is readable.

Do you have a say in what ads are included in your "podcast"? I thought it was inappropriate to have political commericals as part of your show...especially when whoever assigns the ads focuses on one candidate for president. It seems unfair to me.

Huge mistake killing GW off. I was majorly disappointed. Wrong for a number of reasons. Like Curt, GW brought something different to the cast. His somewhat naivety made him very likable. Also, killing him off like the way they did made it look like Erin was the cause... considering he joined the army to impress her. If they needed to kill anyone off, it shouldve been John Boy. Richard Thomas and Richard Thomas alone can be John Boy, sorry.
