yup, I kept a stone face the entire movie, but that scene of him breaking down about how he could have sold his ring to get a few more people safe, along with the entire present day part, got some tears or of me
The final scene where all the souls he saved placed stones on his gravestone. There's no words for it and it broke me way down. The ultimate gratitude, respect and love they have for this man. He lived such a rough life afterwards having given so many others a life at all. As flawed as he was, he never let the Nazis turn his heart to iron.
In death he was given the highest honour of being buried on Mount Zion Jerusalem. That's some great respect and honour for a man that saved countless lives. His grave is still covered in those stones and people continue to place stones as a matter of respect.
That really happened - I think the first time was 1986 Then Spielberg got all survivors together for a second time. There has never been a single day his grave marker didn't have a rock on it
@@matthewvolb94 he didn't necessarily say this word for word, the quote that is most attributed to him during this speech to the Nazi soldiers, was "As men you will return to your families if you do the right thing and let these innocent men live. Or be consumed by your hatred until the end of time, think of how you will be remembered by your families". This is a rough translation from German.
I honestly think this is his only good performance ever. He totally smashed the role in this but I usually find him totally unbearably cheesy and awful. Though it may be because I am also Northern Irish so the fake American accent he usually puts on sounds so awful to me
Hollywood is wicked. Lies constantly sewn. The only thing true about the movie "Schindlers list" is that there was a WW2, and there was a man named Schindler.
The way I see it were all flawed men but not near the extent of the Nazis, how he kept his sanity through it all is remarkable but I think he knew he had to save as many souls as possible. Remarkable human being
@@williamsherman1089how did u treat people during the pandemic? I'm curious for real. I've had several conversations with people who believe they live by a morally superior code, that they would never treat their fellow man like the nazis did, but during the pandemic they thought some should be in camps or even worse.
@@leomcqueen1065 Dude, chill with the racial attacks. If you learned nothing else from this video it should be that even though people look similar they are still subdivided. Hate knows no boundaries... including your insult against white people. As the internet has said, "Check yourself before you wreck yourself."
@@leomcqueen1065 There's no need for that. Don't bring that shit here. Haven't you learned anything from this movie? Hatred have no place in the world. If you hate you lose.
@@leomcqueen1065 what a shitty take. He helped people who were actively being enslaved and exterminated. Which are two things I’m sure you should have a problem with according to your moral code, right?
Even though the Allies had reports on these camps, they couldn't believe that a so called 'Civilized' country could do this. I had an Uncle in the British army, his unit was one of first to enter one of camps, he would never talk about it and if he smelt burning fat it would make him sick. These younger generations cannot comprehend that barbarity like this can happen, the 'DELIBARATE' decision to try to wipe an entire culture that does not equate to yours! They see the 'casualties' caused by bombings and physical violance and can 'vagually' understand it.
We will never know how often that might have happend... Not in his factory, but he was not the only one having a factory where jews worked under the watch of the Nazis.
It's not a real story, so don't feel bad. Ever wonder why there are no films about the holdomor? No? Okay well keep on feeling bad for people that believe Gentiles (everyone except jews) belong in chains and be slaves to them. Try reading the Talmud unmasked. (The Talmud is rabbinical rules and crap, it teaches that mary is a whore, Jesus is a demon, and Christians should be slain, unlike the Torah which is the old testament).
There enough films, actors writers etc that didn’t win Oscar’s but that have become cinema classics with a life of their own, a much better acknowledgement.
We all die poor LOL he lived rich, and then used that money to save lives. I think that's what counts more, in the broader scheme of wealth measurement
@@aceof8S the guy was not the same after the war acc to his wife. He had seemingly lost his ambition. Also his reputation was vindicated only years after the war
@@aceof8S actually he did not, after saving all the jewish workers and spending everything he owned. He actually lived at poverty the rest of his life.
He died the richest man in the world for he saved lives in the face of pure evil. Thousand upon thousand will live on through the generations because of him.
I was so moved by this scene in the movie... I'm an old guy so I actually saw this film in a theater and I have to tell you you could have heard a pin drop through the entire film and especially at the end. All I could hear were sobs in the audience no one left until all the credits had been run. For me this was one of the best films in my life
What do you think we're we are going? Is this our future? Cause I certanly feel so and it worrys me to a great extent. I do not want to nuture sunflowers...
And it gives me chills, this was a true story. Although in a compromised position, Schindler did all he could to save the Jews that were under his authority, and he was a hero for doing so
Making this movie black and white was the perfect choice. Instead of being distracted by the colors or the set pieces we can only really focus on the dialogue, it’s almost like watching it with your eyes closed as your effectively forced to simply listen to the story and the great and terrible things within it
I feel the same way about the movie The last picture show with Cybill Shepherd. The original psycho as well. The movie saving Private Ryan was also subdued , looking almost black and white at times.
@@CoolDude-kc4he You really need to read about him, before you post something this ignorant. Not one of his munitions ever worked. And the Jewish people venerate him to this day as a great hero and savior of many lives.
Imagine sitting down for dinner with your grandpa and he just goes “I shall remain with you until 5 minutes after midnight. After which time, and I hope you’ll forgive me, I have to flee.” 👴🏻 😂
Schindlers' list is a powerful movie about man's inhumanity towards his fellow man and one mans efforts to do the right thing for his fellow man. It is worth your time to watch it. The sad thing is that it is based on true events.
Schindler WAS, heart and soul, a moderately slimy businessman at the start of the war. But under the very real layer of a moderately slimy businessman, were moral boundaries of what he would and would NOT do. Those moral boundaries were set in steel that few people can match.
Ein großartiger Mann der Oskar Schindler mit großen Herzen. Der hat so viel gutes in der schrecklichen Zeit getan. Für mich ein großes Vorbild. Ruhe im Frieden Oskar Schindler.
@@natebox4550 Das konzentrations lager was a place that few can imagine. It is very easy to believe nothing but monsters inhabited such a place. But to simply have been posted there does not mean one was a monster. But yes, many monsters did so many unspeakable crimes at these places. More Germans than just Herr Schindler though were decent people.
Sad knowing that he never thought he did enough, that he died thinking what he did wasn’t enough, died thinking he didn’t save enough, wishing he’d sold one more item to save one more person…
Every time i see this movie, i always end up crying. It gets the job done to show the feeling these people had The feeling Oscar felt for not being able to save as many he wanted. Its heart breaking. The crude snd coldness of war. The suffering and anguish. The hate and cruelty. If it were to happen again, it is not guaranteed we will survive.
Carl Jung explains it. And the same dynamic he explains is at play in other places currently in other forms. Extremist personalities projecting their shadow onto other groups and eventually getting violent because there is no other opposite Direction Psychic force to balance it. Both groups : projectors and projected on get destructed.
Amazing how a really lousy person redeemed himself doing a very good thing. Later in life he kind of reverted to his old ways but those he saved never forgot him and honor him still.
I love how history is filled with examples of men who were otherwise scoundrels... but when presented with a moral crucible produced the greatest examples of our humanity. Sometimes pressure really does create diamonds.
It’s a great opportunity to see this as the propaganda that it is. You have a great attitude about seeing this. A couple of years before this, these people kidnapped German children and nailed them to the walls of the city in the middle of the night. They sort of forget to tell the world that about this reaction to her people that were living freely in Germany and supported to thrive. Killing German children and trying to take over the German banking system has consequences. None of which I agree with or support. It’s just what happened. And these German Patriots responded in kind.
I knew of survivors of the death camps. Many are old and will not be with us much longer. This movie will give people to come a sense of how horrific a period this was.
One of the best movies ever made. At first, the black & white bothered me but a half hour into it, I realized I had forgotten about it. This will make u cry inside & out but when it’s done & u get back to reality, u thank God we’re living today and not in the 30’s & 40’s…
I love that he makes one last plea to the soldiers who are definitely under those orders, but as a fellow Nazi. He begs of them to remember that the regime's hold ends at midnight, and that they only need to wait until then in order to be morally capable of denying such orders.
My whole life I thought this was an old movie because it was black and white. Turns out I heard about it so much (on Seinfeld etc” because it was a current event relevant to my childhood. Who knew.
I’m also viewing these as “shorts” and actually it continues to remind me that no matter how insane the country I am living in - is at the moment - it is not yet like this - but it very easily could be -- we are teetering and I know it. These shorts are just small, quiet reminders that enter my mind daily for reflection.
