I'm so glad that you did this video. People that never read the books think that Frodo and Co made back home without any issues since it was skipped in the movies.

This has been a great series! All the hobbits needed was a few people with the skills and leadership to lead them into battle and everything changed. It wrapped up Saruman's tale as well; all the way from might Maia to impotent spirit. And even to the end, Gandalf held true to his mission to help the Free Peoples resist evil but not to take over.

My favorite chapter...it's wonderful, fulfilling, closure on the arcs of the main 4 Hobbits. They're so scared and clueless when they leave in the beginning. Seeing them absolutely take over a situation that would've scared most, makes me holler "FOR THE SHIRE! NOW YOU DIE SARUMAN!" Keep up the great work Mellon. ECTHELION!

So glad they cut this from the movies, its so goofy and funny it barely even sounds like LotR at all. Even Tom Bombadil was less lighthearted. It feels like a comedic adventure episode from The Hobbit. And now Im convinced that a lot of essay channels that talk about Tolkien and 'the war coming home to The Shire' just havent even checked a summary of the books, because they all talk about Saruman wrecking it with orcs and goblins but in fact it was a group of bandits, and the hobbit police that The Fellowship just ride away from when they stop for lunch.

This really needed some elaboration. Thanks for taking it on! Well done and Happy New Year, Mister Dude. Have I mentioned you remind me of Kylo Ren? Well, you don't sound like him and that's a great thing because you have an excellent narration voice that carries across the room even from a low quality speaker like the one on my phone. Anyway, much appreciation for the hard work putting this together. It's obvious you have the Schwarz. The Force. Some kind of Wizardry.

Will the Dagor Dagorath have an episode in the War of Middle Earth series. It seems like a waste not to include it, since it is supposed to be the final battle ever and would be an excellent way to cap this epic series.

All told though great video and this part of the lore often get forgotten or its not fully told so its nice to see the story told full. And Gandalf how could you abandon the Hobbits like that, Also i don't call this the Battle of Bywater, i call it the Ambush of Bywater as thats what it really is.
@jamaigar
@jamaigar Год назад
Di he really abandon them? They were perfectly capable of managing the situation, and did it with little issue. Being abandoned implies someone you need to do something leaves you prematurely, and since the hobbits didn't really need Gandalf to deal with nothing less than a former maiar, i'd say Gandalf didn't really abandoned them.

why did Saruman rushed the attack against Shire? he could have used the easterlings to create a new power, or stay like Sauron in shadows and scheme against falling mankind in the centuries after Aragon death and elfs+Gandalf departure. very childish writting
@DarthGandalfYT

Saruman was quite powerless after his defeat at Isengard, and I think he knew it, hence his bluff to try and stop the Hobbits from killing him. I don't think he would've been capable of amassing more strength.
@emanuel5640

For me is very hard to believe that a such powerful being, with so much knowledge and power was degrated so low after just one defeat. I mean he was still a maiar, just like Sauron. Oh, well.. i have many questions, but at least i believe that Tolkien should have sent him after some artifact from Arnon to regain power or something. Saruman as the third dark lord would have been great. 3 evil maiars, but i dont believe that humans and dwars could have stand a chance against a new peril, if not from a great intervention from Eru. And just the thought of Saruman making a new staff from Treabeard - gold.

Consider the larger theme Tolkien has going: From battles between the Ainur in the Ainulindale to this last skirmish in the Shire, good and evil have clashed over and over again, with Morgoth and Sauron severely and even irreparably damaging their enemies, but wearing themselves out in the process till they are eventually defeated by a combination of valor and divine providence, with the free people capable of healing and happiness while the Valar and Maiar can only make themselves weaker and more miserable. With his fall, Saruman provides a final note to this, with his attempt at sovereignty providing a lesser version of Barad Dur in Isengard even as Barad Dur was a lesser version of Angband. He loses even this and makes one last lesser attempt at exactly what you suggest: fleeing and biting back from somewhere else as Sauron did. But out of pride and spite, he messes with the Hobbits that his rival Gandalf loved, and this ends up getting him killed. In ending it like this, with a tiny skirmish at an unimportant corner of the world followed by Saruman getting killed by the very man he corrupted and abused, Tolkien ends this conflict between good and evil with the last pretender brought pathetically low by his own arrogance and outrage, unable to find healing or satisfaction while those who remained faithful can find peace at the end.

One thing that always bothered me about the scouring is that the 4 Hobbits didn't call on their allies (Rohan, Gondor). The evil men in the Shire were in violation of King Elessar's laws protecting Hobbits. They could've been stopped with less bloodshed.
@DarthGandalfYT
@DarthGandalfYT 2 года назад
A few things to remember is that the vast majority of Hobbits had never left the Shire, so I doubt they even knew about King Elessar until Frodo and his companions arrived. After they arrived, the Scouring lasted a mere two more days, definitely not long enough for allies to arrive from elsewhere.
@similaritiesendhere
@similaritiesendhere 2 года назад
@@DarthGandalfYT It contradicts some of major themes of the trilogy (tolerance, teamwork). As a "Knight of Gondor", Pippin should've notified King Elessar that a maiar was sparking conflict within his borders. It's a flaw. Tolkien was just human.
